Hi, I am unsuccessfully trying to connect from host to containers dbus. Inside container dbus socket file is visible as /run/dbus/system_bus_socket. The problem is that /run is mounted as tmpfs in container (by systemd on container) and thus the directory content is not visible outside the container. Is there any way to make this file visible also outside the container? Regards, Piotrek

Hi all, I'm testing on debian/unstable SR-IOV feature with Broadcom BCM57810 cards and KVM hypervisor: Compiled against library: libvirt 1.2.1 Using library: libvirt 1.2.1 Using API: QEMU 1.2.1 Running hypervisor: QEMU 1.7.0 bnx2x -> firmware 7.8.17 -> driver from kernel 3.12.7 8 VFs are created on the first PF. For each VF, a specific mac address is set manually using "ip link set eth0 vf x mac xx:xx:xx:xx:xx" command. I run several KVM guests with PCI passthrough (same kernel, bnx2x driver and firmware as the host), performance is close to bare metal. Well, that sounds good, until I start capturing the traffic inside each VM: host traffic is visible as well as traffic destined to other VM. It's like if internal card switching was inoperable. I made several tests with different kernels, different PCIe Passthrough method assignments for libvirt. All failed. [libvirt-users] libvirt 1.2.1 / lxc : default virtual network not defined after installing/starting Libvirt

Hi There, I am using Libvirt 1.2.1 on Fedora 20. So, Libvirt is well installed and started but the weird thing is that the 'default' virtual network is not automatically defined and started, knowing that I can define/start it manually and everything goes fine. previously I was using libvirt 1.0.4 and the 'default' virtual network was defined/started at Libvirt startup. so, I am wondering if this new behavior was introduced intentionally in the latest versions of Libvirt or it's a known issue. Hi, I used event-test.py from here: http://libvirt.org/git/?p=libvirt-python.git;a=blob;f=examples/event-test.p… which is very lasted version. However, it detects all of events but not domain shutdown. I've searched through Google and got nothing. libvirtd version is 1.1.4 and using Xen for hypervisor. Any ideas? Larry

Dear list, I am building a Arch server on my Arch box. My tools are QEMU/KVM and libvirt to manage the guest, systemd as system manager. I am looking at implementing the Linux Control Groups facilities for resource management. Even after long hours of reading, I am not quite sure about how to deal with the cgroups facilities. First, do I really need to care about all that, or libvirt and systemd will manage the resource in an efficient way right out of the box? If not, It's all about /etc/cgconfig.conf and cgrules.conf. I am honestly not sure : -what are the correct mount points for cpu, memory etc in the /sys/fs/cgroup directory . - which directories am I supposed to mk, if any ? Then, Archwiki[1] says: # cgcreate -a $USER -g memory,cpu:groupname - what is the groupename I shall create (qemu*, MyMachine) ? - which $USER shall I use (qemu*, my username) ? * qemu:qemu as user:group in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf Thank you for some help as I admit if I understand the cgroups principle and advantages, I am far from understanding how to create such a group in case of a VM. [libvirt-users] How to use /dev/mapper in virt-manager/libvirt

Hi, my test host is running Debian/GNU Linux unstable and has virt-manger 0.9.5 and libvirt 1.2.1. I am using encryption and thus have devices in /dev/mapper that are not LVs, for example called /dev/mapper/myvirtualdisk. I'd like to configure libvirt in a way that allows me to directly assign such devices to a VM. This does not work when I create a filesystem directory storage pool in virt-manager since virt-manager obviously choked in /dev/mapper/control, which is a character special device that is only readable by root. I currently help myself by linking the devices in question manually to /dev/luksdev and having a filesystem directory storage pool point to that directory. this works, but is ugly. Is there a nicer way to get the contents of /dev/mapper available as volumes in virt-manager? Hi, I'm using libvirt/kvm with openstack. When vm has CPU stall, the instance can't be destroyed. I have asked the question on openstack user mailing list and received no answers in weeks. Maybe that is because the CPU in vm is stalled. I wonder if there is some way to destroy (or rebuild) dead instance without rebooting the hypervisor. Any suggestions is welcome. Hello, I try to use the virtio-scsi driver to use my disks. But my setup at first: * in general Debian Wheezy * Kernel: 3.11-0.bpo.2-amd64 (http://packages.debian.org/wheezy-backports/linux-image-3.11-0.bpo.2-amd64) * Qemu-KVM: 1.7.0 (http://packages.debian.org/jessie/qemu-kvm) * Virsh 1.2.1 (http://packages.debian.org/jessie/libvirt-bin) The new kernel and dirty things from Jessie are for discard support (also not working with current configuration despite thin volumes with working discard). Once I have the this "new" qemu version, why not to use virtio... Every disk with target bus "scsi" gets an own scsi-hd device. Libvirt ignores the scsi controller of type virtio-scsi. Here is a XML snippet: <devices> <controller type='scsi' model='virtio-scsi' index="0"/> <disk type="block" device="disk"> <source dev="/dev/ssd0/sarabi"/> <driver discard="unmap"/> <target dev="sda" bus="scsi"/> <address type="drive" controller="0" bus=0/> </disk> </devices> This creates the virtio-scsi controller (verified by lspci in guest) but do not "connect" the disks to it. The resulting command line looks following: kvm [...] -device virtio-scsi-pci,id=scsi0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5 -drive file=/dev/ssd0/sarabi,if=none,id=drive-scsi0-0-0-0,format=raw,discard=unmap -device scsi-hd,bus=scsi0.0,channel=0,scsi-id=0,lun=0,drive=drive-scsi0-0-0-0,id=scsi0-0-0-0,bootindex=2 [...] How get my disk to run over virtio-scsi? Hello guys! We want to move some guests' disk images to different locations (within the same machine, locally), but we do not want to turn off the guests. Can we do that while the guest is running, like live migration? I did not find any related documentation or posts about it. [libvirt-users] Question about managing migration transfers

Hi folks, As part of a project I am working on, I need to control every step of a migration, from when I establish the connection to the destination, to when I decide to move data blocks, its size, etc. As I can see in the documentation, tunnelled migration allows some kind of control, as the data goes through libvirt before leaving the host. May someone put more light on the subject? Is there any possibility to achieve such control I am looking for, or libvirt hacking will be needed? Thank you very much.

Hi, I am trying to figure it out the best way to add a disk/partition to an existing LVM pool. hi, i am using libvirt-1.2.0 which is installed from source. Which i am using to launch instance on xen. its working fine when i am launching vm from the root user. But i am entered as another user means its throwing the error. Hello, I've configured a network passtrough like this: <interface type='direct'> <mac address='52:54:00:ec:e8:d9'/> <source dev='eth1' mode='passthrough'/> <target dev='macvtap0'/> <model type='rtl8139'/> <alias name='net1'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x09' function='0x0'/> </interface> OK. it works :) There's only one small difficulty: I have to make sure the host network interface is down before I start the VM. Then, after the VM starts, I have to bring the host network interface up by hand. If the host interface is up before the VM starts, the VM fails to start. If I do not bring the host network interface up after the VM starts, the VM cannot effectively communicate using that network interface. Does anybody has a "clean" solution for it, I mean: without employing some external "dirty" script or so? Actually, I've installed a recent version of libvirt and qemu from Jessie, using wheezy-backports. $ virsh version Compiled against library: libvirt 1.2.1 Using library: libvirt 1.2.1 Using API: QEMU 1.2.1 Running hypervisor: QEMU 1.7.0 I'm trying to configure a macvtap interface like this: <interface type='direct'> <mac address='52:54:00:7b:05:cd'/> <source dev='eth1' mode='passthrough'/> <model type='rtl8139'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x08' function='0x0'/> </interface> The interface eth1 is used exclusively by this VM, so as far as I understand, mode 'passthrough' is enough since I'd like to "plug" the VM straight onto a public static IP. [libvirt-users] intel quad gigabit nic and pci passthrough

Hi all I have a very weird case of pci passthrough. I have a machine with 7 network interfaces, all of them intel. Four of them are on one quad giga ethernet device. If I manually unbind the devices and allow qemu to use them, with intel IOMMU working, everything works like a charm. Hi all, I'm having some problems getting Virtio-Serial running as I'd like. I have 10x USB <-> Serial adapters plugged into my VM Host / Hypervisor, acting as a console server. These are currently operated by the VM Host itself, but I would like to move them to a guest. I have used ISA-Serial but it's limited to 4 'ports' per guest. I've setup Virtio-Serial for the guest and it works, I can pass info via serial from the Host to Guest. I'd like to use socat to link the physical USB serial TTY's and the guest serial 'ports' in /dev/pts. This is works fine and the guest can communicate with the Serial <-> USB adapter, however the Guest serial 'ports' are in /dev/pts and they are assigned a number dynamically when the VM is started, so I can't automate socat to run at boot. Is it possible to assign static PTY's in the host, to the Guest? Or, if this needs to be scripted, is there a command I can run to find out which PTY it's on without parsing the XML from a dump? Hello If I'm not terribly mistaken, looks like libvirt 1.2.1 does not provide ability of merging only a subset of the entire chain of backing files. So, if I have a chain like this: root <- a <-b <- c <- d <- active ... and I'd like to obtain a chain like this: root <- c <- d <- active ... looks like it's not supported, since I'm trying the command / //virsh blockpull domain --path /path/to/c --bandwidth 30 --base /path/to/root// (1) / ... but it complains because /--path /path/to/c/ is not recognized, since only /--path /path/to/active/ is acceptable: / //virsh blockpull domain --path /path/to/active --bandwidth 30 --base /path/to/root// (2) / So, command (1) fails but command (2) succeeds. The point is: How could I obtain the results I'm trying to achieve via command (1) ? I'm trying to permanently change memory allocation for a libvirt-lxc domain. So far I tried changing memory in memory.limit_in_bytes under /cgroup/memory/libvirt/lxc/<container>/. This didn't help. It appears that libvirt is not reading changes in cgroup. My requirements are 1) Be able to dynamically change memory of a LXC domain without reboot 2) The memory change must survive LXC domain reboot. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I hope this question isn't considered too off topic for this list, I am trying to reach the libvirt-sandbox developers, but I could not find a libvirt-sandbox specific mailing list, and it seemed to me that libvirt-sandbox was a part of libvirt itself. I am trying to port libvirt-sandbox to run on a CentOS 6.5 system. This wasn't too hard but, I had to do the following: I have used the CentOS repo addon ElRepo to upgrade the kernel to 3.10.28. CentOS normally runs a 2.6.32 kernel. I upgraded glib2 from 2.36 to 2.38.2. I did this by building 2.38.2 from source and installing it into /usr/local. Thus, the 2.36 version still exists in /lib64 and the normal CentOS applications use this version. I built libvirt 1.2.1 from source and installed it into /usr/local. I used: ./configure --with-lxc --with-selinux --with-secdriver-selinux --prefix=/usr/local I built libvirt-glib 0.1.7 from source and installed it into /usr/local. I used: PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig ./configure --prefix=/usr/local I build libvirt-sandbox 0.5.1 from source and installed it into /usr/local. I used: PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig ./configure As a test, I am able to run the libvirt lxc helloworld example: [root@scwnet1 lxc_helloworld]# virsh -c lxc:/// define helloworld.xml Hi there I’m not quite proficient with libvirt yet, and have been using it so far primarily to manage lxc containers I was hoping to find a means to configure the set of capabilities that guests should drop, but came across a few web pages suggesting these were set in stone in the code is this correct, or is there a means to tweak this set from the host via the xml config or a virsh command ? any hint / pointer to documentation in this respect would be most appreciated — Thierry

Hi All, I am using the libvirt-0.5.1.jar and downloaded from this link ftp://libvirt.org/libvirt/java. 1) To find the os type of domain I use this method getOSType(). But it returns the kvm or hvm instead of windows and linux. Is the any way to find the original os type of domain? 2) Please give is there any option or method available to find the ipaddress of domain? Thanks & Regards Rathidevi

[libvirt-users] Does libvirt support attach volume to linux container now?

Hi all, I am playing with linux container and using libvirt to manage linux container. I find I fail to attach volume to linux container via libvirt and I got the following error message: Failed to attach volume: data-111 to VM: lxc-111; org.libvirt.LibvirtException: unsupported configuration: Can't setup disk for non-block device. My question is that does libvirt support attaching volume to linux container? If it supports, what version should I use? Thanks, DuJun
