Hi all: My OS is now Fedora16 , and the spice server is installed on it by rpms. Then I run 'qemu-kvm -hda /root/vaddsoft.img -m 512 -vga qxl -spice port=5930,disable-ticketing' , I want to find out where is the libvirt.xml for the command . Well , I mean that the libvirt.xml is genrated automatically, not by myself manually. Wish your help! Thanks a lot! -- Yours. suyi

I am getting following error with tunneled migration command: {{{ $ virsh --connect qemu:///system migrate --verbose --p2p --tunnelled 32 qemu+ssh://kvm-03/system error: operation failed: Failed to connect to remote libvirt URI qemu+ssh://kvm-03/system }}} However I am able to perform other virsh command like list, pool-list, dumpxml using the same remote libvirt URI: {{{ $ virsh --connect qemu+ssh://kvm-03/system list }}} Also, the hypervisor native migration is working fine with following command: {{{ $ virsh --connect qemu:///system migrate 31 qemu+ssh://kvm-03/system }}} I am confused why remote URI worked for some of the commands but not for the migrate command. Am I missing something with the tunneled migration command or libvirtd/qemu configuration file? Any help would be appreciated. Software versions on both systems: * CentOS 6.2 * Libvirt 0.9.4 * qemu-kvm 2:0.12.1.2-2.209.el6_2.4 -- Shantanu

We would like to mount /dev and /dev/pts correctly using the libvirt xml config file instead of doing a bind mount in a container init script we use. How do we allow resource over provisioning in KVM ? [libvirt-users] can't add cpu's to virtual guest

I have a rhel6.0 server running kvm. I have recently needed to add additional cpu's to some of the guests but cannot do it via virt-manager, can't doit using virt, and can't do it by vi the guest.xml file. Is this a bug or am I missing something? Thanks, DaveB

Eric, I have a RHEL6.0 machine running libvirt 0.8.7-18. I am running into issue mentioned in one of the previous posting. https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvirt-users/2011-December/msg00059.html # virsh start <domain> error: Failed to start domain <domain> error: operation failed: failed to read qemu header # od -N 128 -tx1z /path/to/domain.save 0000000 The workaroud to run --force-boot does not work on 0.8. Hi, I am getting following 'qemu: could not load kernel' error while trying to create a new VM using virt-install or virt-manager. The software versions are as follows: CentOS 6.2, Libvirt 0.9.4, qemu-kvm 2:0.12.1.2-2.209.el6_2.1. The qemu.conf has disabled dynamic_ownership setting. The VM instantiation has worked fine before when dynamic_ownership was enabled (default). So is this error related to dynamic ownership being disabled? I appreciate any help on how to debug this error further. Also, is there any documentation on why/when dynamic_ownership setting should be used? Try one more time and paste /var/log/message (tail -100 /var/log/message) and /var/log/secure (tail -40 /var/log/secure) to pastebin.com and send link. Dear all: I ust installed Fedora16Fedora16 X86_64 on my new machine, and then I ran the commands as follows(ran as root): yum install qemu-kvm yum install qemu yum install libvirt yum install virt-manager then I started the libvirtd as follow: /etc/init.d/lbvirtd start So , it ran well. However, after a few days , when I ran the command "virt-manager" , it showed as in the attachment. it seemed that ti cannot connect the hipervisor. Then I did a little test: I ran the conmand "virsh list" , but it didnot work,either. Then I used Python as follows: import libvirt cc = libvirt.open(r'qemu:///system' ) but it didnot work,either. All the test above are under root . I hope that someone can give me some suggestiion. Thanks to all!

I just upgrade to the last version of the libvirt on my Gentoo System. [libvirt-users] [LXC] Attempt to start X in guest makes host X die

I have attempted to start X in a rawhide LXC guest on a Fedora 16 host, using echo a > /sys/fs/cgroup/devices/libvirt/lxc/Rawhide/devices.allow to allow me to create all the necessary devices in /dev in the guest (dangerous, I know, but I only ran that command after the guest systemd finished booting). This is with the nouveau open source driver. I ran X using /usr/bin/startx -- :7 vt7 Immediately the host X server dies, even though it's on a different virtual terminal (VT1). It seems to be something to do with DRM. The /var/log/Xorg.0.log in the host says something about drmSetMaster failing. What's strange is that according to the guest Xorg.7.log, DRM opening fails there too: "drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)". If there is no such device (even though I created it), how can the guest be affecting the host? I think it might possibly be related to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=680677 Maybe the guest X immediately fails to start but for some reason does not release the DRM master (at all, or quickly enough), and the host X tries to regain the DRM master but fails and dies. I looked at some other drivers to see if any other X drivers have better handling of the latter condition, but I couldn't find any which do a retry in this case. I would report a bug, but I'm not sure which Fedora component to report this against.

Hi all, we have an easy question for you maybe. when we start the virt-manager, and doubleclick an listed virtual machine, we always bei transported to CONSOLE page. Thats very annoying for us. Is there a possibility to set an option, that on doubleclick you are getting the CONSOLE TAB. in 95% we need Console and not Details. thanks for any costructive hints. marko , from cloudy rainy germany

Hello, Today i tried to migrate a vm which was consuming 4 cpus and some 8GB of ram. The cpu utilization was close to 100%. First of all migration took a lot of time and ultimately it failed with and "unknown error" message. Till this time vm was in good state. Then i tried to suspend it and gave error message like "unable to free cpu. cannot suspend". Finally after many attempts it got suspended. Do we have any solution to this. -- Jatin
