I have lvm based (thin pool) storage on local disks. I need to move vps from one vg on one disk to another. Does it possible to migrate to localhost with blockcopy migration to another vg? Hello, everybody here I have a question about graphical buffers for rhel7. Thanks so much in advance who can give me some suggestions about that. When I try to do regression for bug859317(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=859317) on RHEL7， I found that guest could be connected success with virt-viewer when set/update the graphics passwd to empty. But according to comment 2 in this bug, libvirt will blocks all access to the VNC server when set a password to empty. So could you please help us check is it acceptable on RHEL7? Below is my test steps on RHEL7: Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): libvirt-1.2.8-3.el7.x86_64 qemu-kvm-rhev-2.1.0-5.el7.x86_64 kernel-3.10.0-150.el7.x86_64 How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1. [libvirt-users] virsh net-start default fails

Hi all, I'm getting an error, and have failed to succeed in googling for help with it. I have an old VM that I created a while back (at least one reboot ago, possibly a kernel upgrade ago), and am now finding that it won't start due to a lack of the 'default' network. When I look for how to fix this, everyone seems to agree on the command: # virsh net-start default error: failed to get network 'default' error: An error occurred, but the cause is unknown But this fails. A natural next check would be to use net-list: # virsh net-list --all Name State Autostart ----------------------------------------- Which demonstrates that the 'default' network is unknown. I'm certain that it used to exist, and the file /var/lib/libvirt/network/default.xml does exist, claims to be autogenerated and looks reasonable. I am at a loss as to how to debug this further. Any suggestions? -- David Roundy

hi everybody a qemu-kvm guest gets 16 cpus and Windows in "Device Manager" sees all sixteeen but "Task Manager" shows only 4, the same "System" properties say "(4 processors)" I'd like to learn a bit about this - is it some sort of "resources management" on the libvirt/qemu causing this? And what does it do to a guest performance-wise side? it's on Scientific L 7, qemu-kvm-1.5.3-60.el7_0.7.x86_64 libvirt-1.1.1-29.el7_0.1.x86_64 regards P.

It sure would be nice if someone who knows what they are doing took a look at this problem: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1135762 The current situation on Fedora 21 is that virt-sandbox and virt-sandbox-service simply do not work if a network is defined (e.g., -N address-192.168.1.1/34). I would give dhcp as an example but to work, that needs to patch I submitted in another BZ report. Since both virt-sandbox -c lxc:/// -N <network>,source=default and doing systemctl start <sandbox> result in the same error and since I am running the fedora-virt-preview rpms and the failure *does not* occur on Fedora 20 but *does* occur on Fedora 21, I have to assume that the problem is not directly in libvirt. However, determining what/where the problem really is, is stretching my abilities a bit too far ... help!! Gene

Dear List, Recently I read an article [1] about how to use KVM and VGA passthrough to create multiple GPU accelerated VM's for use in gaming or as virtual workstations: [1] http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Multiheaded-NVIDIA-Gaming-using-U… I'm planning on building a KVM workstation to do this using CentOS 7 or Ubuntu 14.04 LTS as the base virtualization host and then an Intel Xeon CPU and two Nvidia GeForce GTX 750's as GPU's for the virtual machines. I'm really new to this sort of GPU passthrough on KVM and am wondering if anyone has any advice or has done this before? Thank you!

When I try to pxe boot a new VM through lvm and libxl I find about 1 in 10 times the pxe requests will be acknlwledged but if I go into the interacive ipxe screens it will boot every time. Hi, I am using libvirt with qemu/kvm with qemu-guest-agent and suspend/save/resume linux and windows vm's. Time in Windows gets handled fine with ntp but I can get neither ntp or chrony to sync after resume without manually setting the time close to correct first. Searching has gotten me to the point where I can manually set the time using qemu-guest-agent but I cant figure out how to get libvirt to automaticly trigger this on resume. I am finding information saying it works but not how, or that its still work in progress and not implemented yet (but patches exist). Can someone either say "its not working yet" or explain what I am missing please? BillK

Hi. When i try to launch VM with command virsh start vm1.It gives following error -device ide-hd,bus=ide.0,unit=0,drive=drive-ide0-0-0,id=ide0-0-0,bootindex=1: Bus 'ide.0' not found When I create the same qemu command from xml again. It show following addition parameter added by virsh in output qemu command 1) -device ide-hd,bus=ide.0,unit=0,drive=drive-ide0-0-0,id=ide0-0-0,bootindex=1 2) -device virtio-balloon-device,id=balloon0 I seems parameter 1 added by virsh domxml-from-native qemu-argv demo.args causing the problem. Hello I managed yet to create a KVM Virtual Machine with several network interfaces (vNICs) and to make it boot from network using PXE. Anyway I noticed that, if there is no answer from a pxe server on the first vNIC, the dhcp request is sent on every vNIC until it gets a response (or the vNIC list ends). I would like to know if there is a way to specify that the dhcp request should be triggered on a specific interface and if it fails stop or try again on same interface (if rebootTimeout is set). execution of the tests fails virnetmessagetest. When i tried using the libvirtd running without any problems but I can not run the Connection with the virsh command virsh -c qemu:///system that returns the following error: "Unable to encode message header" and the log shows the error: "virNetSocketReadWire: 1523: End of file while reading dates: Error of input / output". There 's someone who can give me a hand to solve the problem? thanks Stefano

Dear Gene, Thank you for your response. I want to assign a static IP address to my container, I wonder if I can achieve this by editing the container's /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0. I tried this, but failed, and eth0 is always not assigned an IP address automatically (my host and guest are fedora19). Am I missing something? I don't know much about the booting procedure of a container, and how the network NIC is configured during the booting. I have successfully (I believe) built (rebuilt on Ubuntu 14.04), installed, and used libvirt 1.2.2. Behaviorally I can't tell the difference between what I've built and what Ubuntu distributes. Specifically, "virsh capabilities" shows this: <secmodel> <model>apparmor</model> <doi>0</doi> </secmodel> <secmodel> <model>dac</model> <doi>0</doi> <baselabel type='kvm'>+112:+113</baselabel> <baselabel type='qemu'>+112:+113</baselabel> </secmodel> Which seems reasonable as well as expected. I build 1.2.8 using the same commands, install the generated packages, recycle, and virsh reports this: <secmodel> <model>none</model> <doi>0</doi> </secmodel> <secmodel> <model>dac</model> <doi>0</doi> <baselabel type='kvm'>+112:+113</baselabel> <baselabel type='qemu'>+112:+113</baselabel> </secmodel> The app armor security model is missing, but It's unclear why that might be. The app armor library is linked in and used (according to ldd), and nothing else on the system changes. I can install / de-install the two versions and repeatedly demonstrate this change. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for? Nothing comes up via a web search. Again: no special options on the configure, and the same technique is used to build both versions. I'm looking for any pointers before I start digging into the code. Thanks in advance!! Gary

Does anybody know how to configure the NIC automatically with an assigned IP address? So I have an entry for a USB device ( ID 051d:0002, UPS) I want to use with a given vm client. In that vm client's config file I added something like this: <hostdev mode='subsystem' type='usb' managed='yes'> <source> <vendor id='0x051d'/> <product id='0x0002'/> </source> </hostdev> And that worked fine for a while. Now I moved the vm host, and then put the cable to the UPS on an available USB port Bus 002 Device 006: ID 051d:0002 American Power Conversion Uninterruptible Power and tried to restart the client... and got the following message: error: internal error Did not find USB device 51d:2 bus:2 device:3 Er, why should it care about which bus and device this is? I thought my config would mean it would look for the device that matched the ID in the config no matter where it was. How did it learn and memorized what I guess is the old location?
