[libvirt-users] problem with libvirt and ovs bridge

Hello, I have created an ovs bridge on which i have attached a port. I would like to connect my vm to that port,so i have created an xml defining the network. The xml is: <network> <name>ovs-snort</name> <forward mode='bridge'/> <bridge name='snort'/> <virtualport type='openvswitch'/> </network> but when i do virsh net-define /tmp/ovsnetwork.xml i get the error error: XML error: unexpected virtualport type -1 My libvirt version is 1.2.9 Can you guide me through that?

[libvirt-users] wrong time in guest logs

Hi, i have several vm's running on KVM hosts. Recently i found out that the time in the log-files of the guests (/var/log/libvirt/qemu/xxx.log) is wrong. The time on the guest itself is right, just the time in the log-files is one hour back. Windows and linux vm's are affected. Also on another host the same. Changing the clock offset does not have any influence, still the wrong time in the log file. Any ideas ? Hi all, Will over-allocation of vCPUs be counterproductive to VM Win7 Ultimate? I allocated 32 (out of 64 physical cores in 8 NUMA cells, and 128G out of 2T physical RAM) to the VM. But the boot process was extremly slow, actually the desktop screen never showed up then the VM just reboot automatically. So is there anything I can do to solve this problem or the truth is Win7 by design just cannot handle that mount of CPUs even with Win7 Ultimate? Regards, Allen 2014-10-28 Allen Qiu

Dear all, On my last post "Why a "core dump" error occurs when a thread exits in container but it's correct when running in native linux" might be misleading. I did further test and the steps are described below. 1) First, the container is started (we have the first terminal window) 2) Use virsh lxc-enter-namespace command to open another terminal (we have the second terminal) 3) Execute "exit" in the first terminal to quit container 4) Then an error is reported by the second terminal "internal error; child process (XXX) unexpected fatal signal 9" and the terminal is frozen then. Dear all, When I run my application in a container, sometimes the thread can exit correctly, sometime a "core dump" error occurs when it exits. But the application always exits correctly when it runs in a native fedora. Malloc() and free() functions are used in my application. I wonder if this is the reason for the core dump error. Is the thread exit event treated differently by the container and native OS? Or if I need to tune some options for memory in container's XML configuration file? Best wishes, Cheng

Hi all, What is the difference between starting virt-manager by "virt-manager" and by "sudo virt-manager"? It seems that there are two copy of virt-manager running in the background. When I run "virt-manager", I got a error of "Unable to open a connection to the libvirt management daemon. Libvirt URI is: qemu:///system Verify that: - The 'libvirtd' daemon has been started". Whereas when I run "sudo virt-manager", I got a error of "Error starting Virtual Machine Manager: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. [libvirt-users] libvirt guests graceful shutdown upon hosts powerdown/reboot

hi everybody by an assumption I expected VM guests to be shut down/off gracefully when the host is being powered down or rebooted, but this does not seem to be the case so I wonder.. Am I missing some libvirt components/packages ? Or my assumption is incorrect and guests have to be shutdown manually? it's all SL 7 and guest are M$ regards P.

Hi, I’m an openstack developer trying to use Assignment from a pool of SRIOV VFs in a libvirt <network> definition from this link http://wiki.libvirt.org/page/Networking My question is is it possible for nova (the openstack compute) to know which VF out of the pool will be allocated to a VM before it invokes libvirt to launch it? [libvirt-users] Public IP addresses are not logged in VMs

Anyone that can help me solve this one? I have around 4 VM's on a server and the network is bridged and a /28 public IP range assigned to it . When a client connects to one of the VM's, they all always log the address of the host server, never the client ip address. How can I fix this? Things I have investigated: 1. Switch to routed network. That would not help, since I would firstly need another public IP subnet to route to (the virtual machines). 2. Could have something to do with the libvirt firewall rules, but they are default, I didn't touch them I have read many posts in forums and websites, but none make any mention of this behaviour. Help would really be great!

Hi, I am trying to define a container using libvirt, and I need to allow access of the device /dev/uio0 on the host on the container as well. That is, I have the following line in the container config file: lxc.mount.entry = /dev/uio0 dev/uio0 none bind,create=file lxc.cgroup.devices.allow = c 249:1 rwm And I want to add it in the libvirt XML file for the container. I tried something like: <filesystem accessmode="passthrough" type="mount"> <source file="/dev/uio0" /> <target dir="/dev/uio0" /> </filesystem> But it gave me error: root# virsh -c lxc:/// define lxc_v.xml error: Failed to define domain from lxc_v.xml error: missing source information for device /dev/uio0 Can someone pls help, how I can add the /dev/uio0 to the xml file? Hi * Trying to get drive-backup command, getting permission denied. :( sudo virsh qemu-monitor-command --hmp my-instance --cmd drive_backup drive-virtio-disk0 /tmp/foo.vda.img Looks like apparmor issue. What can I modify to make this work ? * Couple of other questions drive-backup : * The doc seems to claim that it gives a point in time copy of the drive. So I assume that no need to take any snapshot etc.. and merge back in. * does it internally use snapshot ? Does this hook in to doing fsfreeze and unfreeze using guest agent and does it automagically ? I do not see any options here. * Suppose I have base <-- sn1 --<-- sn2 (QEMU active) . does it take data from sn2 only ? or base+sn1+sn2 .. full drive and creates a new qcow2 sparse file. Thanks /Jd

Hello, Does KVM support hotadd memory and hot-plug cpu? I checked it using the virsh command but I can only increase the memory to the maximum memory that is initially set But setmaxmem command is failing. Which means this require a reboot of the guest # virsh setmaxmem 4 1048576 error: Unable to change MaxMemorySize error: Requested operation is not valid: cannot resize the maximum memory on an active domain #virsh setvcpus 4 4 error: internal error: unable to execute QEMU command 'cpu-add': Not supported Thanks ravargs

[libvirt-users] VGA as vfio-pci and vnc server's blank/black display

hi, I'm having a Radeon as vfio-pci, which seems to work perfectly fine, but... Qemu's model type='vga' gets "exlaimed" in win2k8's Device Manager with: " Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) " Now, that does not bother me that much as all I need on regular basis is RDP but VNC connection gets me nowhere. I get blank/black screen, it connects without errors/problems but nothing more. I know you would say VGA passthrough is only supported for very few VGA adapters but is the situation I describe normal/expected? regards

Good morning, there is a typo in my description; the line <address domain='0x0' bus='0x1' slot='0x00' function='0x0'/> should be <address domain='0x0' bus='0x2' slot='0x00' function='0x0'/> That was correct in my xml-file. [libvirt-users] Fixed Public IP to VM Guest

Hi All We have setup a Centos7 host server with KVM and have created multiple VM running Ubuntu 14.04 using virt-manager. All VMs are having forward mode as "NAT" and using internal DHCP IP address 192.168.122.x series and we gave them fixed ips based on their mac address. Now all these VMs are able to access Internet and able to run update on all these guest OS. But these VMs are web and API servers and they are required to be accessible from Internet. We have pool of public IPs and have assigned host with one public IP for example, we have pool like 192.168.111.1 to 192.168.111.25. We have assigned 192.168.111.2 to Host server and would like to assign 192.168.111.3 to Webserver and 192.168.111.4 to API server. So we changed our virsh network settings from default to routed as <forward mode='route' dev='em1'> and struggling to configure fixed IPs for our VMs. We would like to do exactly as mentioned in this link https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/ht… We have been struggling with this for last 3 days and no luck.
