host identifier

Hello community, I am using OpenStack nova and realize that nova now uses host fqdn from libvirt as a uniq identifier for a compute node. The issue is that host might need to change its fqdn under some rare circumstances and lose some usage data due to the nova manages compute node resources. My question is: does libvirt already export host uuid identifier to other applications? I skim through the code base and find there is host uuid related code which reads /etc/machine-id to obtain a uniq uuid for migration, but seems this uuid cannot be obtained through virsh interface. Fail to do blockcopy to network dest xml with --reuse-external

Hello, libvirt developers, Recently I find an issue of libvirt blockcopy: Versions: libvirt-7.4.0 qemu-kvm-6.0.0 Steps: 1. Create a nbd server # qemu-img create -f qcow2 /var/lib/libvirt/images/fedora-1.qcow2 10G -o preallocation=full # qemu-nbd -e 10 /var/lib/libvirt/images/fedora-1.qcow2 -p 10001 2. Prepare a running VM # virsh list Id Name State ------------------------ 3 fedora running # virsh dumpxml 3|xmllint --xpath //disk - <disk type="file" device="disk"> <driver name="qemu" type="qcow2"/> <source file="/var/lib/libvirt/images/fedora.qcow2" index="1"/> <backingStore/> <target dev="hda" bus="ide"/> <alias name="ide0-0-0"/> <address type="drive" controller="0" bus="0" target="0" unit="0"/> </disk> 3. Blockcopy to a nbd dest xml with --reuse-external # cat /tmp/copy.xml <disk type='network' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' type='qcow2'/> <source protocol="nbd"> <host name="localhost" port="10001" /> </source> <backingStore/> <target dev='hda' bus='ide'/> </disk> # virsh blockcopy fedora hda --xml /tmp/copy.xml --transient-job --wait --verbose --finish --reuse-external error: unsupported configuration: reused mirror destination format must be specified But it works without --reuse-external # virsh blockcopy fedora hda --xml /tmp/copy.xml --transient-job --wait --verbose --finish Block Copy: [100 %] Successfully copied Since it is clear that the format of dest image is qcow2, the error message "reused mirror destination format must be specified" is wrong. The blockcopy with network disk + --reuse-external should either be supported or post a better error message. I am not sure if --reuse-external flag is only for file type disk. It seems the description of VIR_DOMAIN_BLOCK_COPY_REUSE_EXT( https://github.com/libvirt/libvirt/blob/7c08141f906e20e730c4b6407bc638e743d…) indicates this flag is for file only: * VIR_DOMAIN_BLOCK_COPY_REUSE_EXT flag is present stating that the file * was pre-created with the correct format and metadata and sufficient * size to hold the copy. In case the VIR_DOMAIN_BLOCK_COPY_SHALLOW flag * is used the pre-created file has to exhibit the same guest visible contents * as the backing file of the original image. This allows a management app to * pre-create files with relative backing file names, rather than the default * of absolute backing file names. Please help to confirm if it is a bug here.

issue when not using acpi indices in libvirt 7.4.0 and qemu 6.0.0

Hi everyone, We have an issue with how network interfaces are presented in the VM with the latest libvirt 7.4.0 and qemu 6.0.0. Previously, we were on libvirt 7.0.0 and qemu 5.2.0, and we used increasing virtual PCI addresses for any type of network interface (virtio, PCI passthrough, SRIOV) in order to decide the interface order inside the VM. What happened to ens2? By running udev inside the VM, I see that "rename4" is the result of a conflict between the ID_NET_NAME_SLOT of the second and the third interface, both appearing as ID_NET_NAME_SLOT=ens3. In theory rename4 should show ID_NET_NAME_SLOT=ens2. Virtio RNG I see that a new feature in qemu and libvirt is to add ACPI indices in order to have network interfaces appear as *onboard* and sort them through this index as opposed to virtual PCI addresses. This is great. I see that in this case, interfaces appear as eno1, eno2, etc. However, for the sake of backward compatibility, is there a way to have the previous behaviour where interfaces were called by their PCI slot number (ens1, ens2, etc.)? If I move to the new naming yielded by ACPI indices, I am mostly worried about any possible change in interface names that might occur across VMs running different OS's, with respect to what we had before with libvirt 7.0.0 and qemu 5.2.0. Hi, Could someone pls let me know when this condition could possibly arise? lxcContainerResolveSymlinks:621 : Skipped unaccessible '/flash/dir' The code seems to call access('/flash/dir', F_OK) which shall only check for existence of this directory '/flash/dir'. Hello community, I am looking at building and packaging libvirt source code. I am seeing from commit https://github.com/libvirt/libvirt/commit/83ff55b5a2618d32f623d7ca0b6f9c28b… `driver_remote` is defaulting to auto which is different from enabled before. I am curious what does auto mean? does it mean that meson will take over and determine if driver_remote should be enabled or we have to write more logic in meson.build? currently it seems there is no effort to auto determine driver_remote. interface qos conflicts with ovs

Hello community, We found a strange situation where interface qos is being cleared up. I am mounting a filesystem into a domain using the virtiofs driver. <filesystem accessmode="passthrough" type="mount"> <source dir="/home"/> <target dir="/home"/> <driver type="virtiofs"/> </filesystem> Both my host (Fedora 34) and guest (CentOS 8.4) are running with SELinux enforcing. From my host, I can see that the SELinux context type is set to user_home_dir_t. $ ls -ldZ /home/link drwxr-xr-x. 61 link link system_u:object_r:user_home_dir_t:s0 8192 May 21 12:41 /home/link >From within the guest however, the volume is unlabeled_t $ ls -lZd /home/link drwxr-xr-x. 61 link link system_u:object_r:unlabeled_t:s0 8192 May 21 12:53 / home/link Is there a way to pass the SELinux context through to the guest? Or mount the volume with the correct options to map SELinux contexts?

Thanks all of you for your help. One more question regarding vhost-user-blk-pci type device, how to identify a vhost-blk disk in QEUM VM ? for example, disk name looks like vda,vdb,..., but that some application in VM want to detect that a certain entry is really the device it is waiting for. Hello. it's more of a challenge,to be able to emulate the raspberry pi 3 on my Jetson nano (aarch64) using virt-install. I'm learning how to do that by reading heavily here : https://github.com/dhruvvyas90/qemu-rpi-kernel I tried to do something like this : virt-install \ --name pi \ --machine raspi3 \ --cpu arm1176 \ --memory 1024 \ --import \ --disk /root/Desktop/zi/Work/Android/Raspy/Debian/2019-09-26-raspbian-buster-lite.img,format=raw,bus=virtio \ --network user,model=virtio \ --video vga \ --graphics spice \ --rng device=/dev/urandom,model=virtio \ --boot 'uefi=RPI_EFI.fd,dtb=bcm2710-rpi-3-b-plus.dtb,kernel=kernel8.img,kernel_args=root=/dev/vda2 rootwait panic=1 dwc_otg.fiq_fsm_enable=0' \ --events on_reboot=destroy But I get this error : ERROR Error: --boot uefi=RPI_EFI.fd,dtb=bcm2710-rpi-3-b-plus.dtb,kernel= kernel8.img,kernel_args=root=/dev/vda2 rootwait panic=1 dwc_otg.fiq_fsm_enable=0: Did not find any UEFI binary path for arch 'aarch64' I've got the UEFI BIOS file from here : https://github.com/andreiw/RaspberryPiPkg/blob/master/Binary/prebuilt/2019J… I'm not sure if it isn't the right efi file to use in this specific configuration or if it is,but I'm passing the parameter badly. virt viewer for Mac

Hi. Please excuse me if this is not the right place to ask. We are using virt viewer happily from Linux, and though the Windows release sometimes has issues it seems it is maintained. There is this Mac client here: https://people.freedesktop.org/~teuf/spice-gtk-osx/ We have been reported it is outdated and somehow buggy. Is there another alternative ? Are there plans to port virt-viewer for Macs ? Thank you.

Hello: I'm using kvm to host a windows 7 guest vm, I've install the latest spice guest tools from https://spice-space.org/download/windows/spice-guest-tools/spice-guest-tool…, and I've set video section like this: <video> <model type="qxl" ram="262144" vram="262144" vram64="262144" vgamem="131072" heads="1" primary="yes"/> <alias name="video0"/> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x01" function="0x0"/> </video> but the graphics in windows guest is laggy, I' found that the guest have only use 16MB as vram: How can I increase the real usage of vram in the windows guest vm?

Hey, all. For one, apologies if this isn't quite the right list, I tried to get the right one. But, my problem: I'm firing up a Centos 6.5 box with virt-install, recently converted from a physical (I did a 'dd' to a raw image, and converted it to qcow2), and it boots fine, etc., etc., but I can't get to the console except through vnc; "virsh console" just shows a blank screen. Do I need to tell the kernel to boot in ASCII mode or somesuch? Thanks! -Ken

I am looking to be able to check if a specific PCI device is allocated to a guest. An error is produced if a domain is started and the device is in use within another domain via this function. I cannot see a publicly available function to use to get this information, is there one available or is there another way to check the state of the PCI device. Regards Simon
