Hi, I would like to know if libvirt support Hyper-V deployed in Windows 2012 server. Does libvirt talk to Hyper-V using the REST API provided by Microsoft (where SCVMM & SPF are deployed)? >From the web site, I see that libvirt support only "Hyper-V 2008 R2" Many thanks in advance. Hassan

[libvirt-users] Migrate VM's to different storage pool?

I am searching for directions for using live block migration to copy running vm's to a different storage pool. Example: VM1 running on Host1, the image(s) for VM1 are stored in /var/lib/libvirt/images. I'd like to copy the disk image(s) that VM1 is using to /nfs/images. Without stopping/pausing/powering down the VM. Do you have any examples or documentation of how to accomplish this process? Regards, Jamie Ian Fargen

Hi, I'm able to get the CPU utilization metrics from libvirt for the guests (VM's) remotely . Is it possible to get the Host Cpu stat's through libvirt ? I didn't find any information regarding the host cpu cycles and memory utilization to collect them remotely. Libvirt is installed on all the hosts. Regards, Navin

Hi, I am trying to attach a usb device to my virtualbox node using libvirt. My node is already running, I stop my node and then I am trying to add this usb device. I have a separate xml file defined for usb. Hi all, it's possible to change/add the QoS settings for a running domain? I edited the domain definition with virsh but it seems to have no effect until I shut down the domain. libvirt version 0.9.13 kvm-qemu version 1.2.0 Best, Davide.

I'm looking for best practice for administration Infiniband SRP volume with libvirt (virsh) How to manage these volumes? * SRP Disk is /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-2766f6c3030303037 or /dev/sdi Now I edited guest domain file with ``virsh edit XXXX'' command and append the following lines. <disk type='block' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw'/> <source dev='/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-2766f6c3030303037'/> <target dev='vdc' bus='virtio'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x06' function='0x0'/> </disk> It seems work fine, however I feed it is a little bit slow. Hi, all, We were running OpenStack with Ubuntu and libvirt 0.9.10. We found that libvirt monitor command not working well. Hi guys: I'd like to "scriptify" my virtual machine manager deployment. In particular id like to 1) Configure a 3 node cluster from an ISO 2) Assign static IPs at the vm level, and have those cascade into /etc/hosts 3) Add storage to each machine in the cluster . 4) Set the memory/CPU# for each machine. Hello, I recently compiled libvirt 1.0.1 and qemu 1.3.0 on Ubuntu 12.04. I have performed live snapshots on VMs using "virsh snapshot-create-as" and then later re-merge the images together using "virsh blockpull". I am wondering how I can do a couple of other operations on the images while the VM is running. For example, VM1 is running from the snap3 image, with the following snapshot history (backing files): [orig] <-- [snap1] <-- [snap2] <-- [snap3] 1. Can I revert VM1 to use snap2 while it is live, or must it be shutdown? After shutting it down, is the best way to revert to snap2 to just edit the xml file and change the block device to point to snap2? Afterwards, I believe snap3 would become unusable and should be deleted? 2. Dear list, I am getting strange problems using a setup outlined in the subject. I want to run three guests on a single kvm host. The guests are connected through macvtap directly to the network device 'eth0' of the host using this configuration: <interface type='direct'> <mac address='52:54:00:86:3f:24'/> <source dev='eth0' mode='bridge'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x03' function='0x0'/> </interface> Each guest is assigned a static ip address, no DHCP is involved. I can't access the third one. After the initial startup, the last host won't connect to the network even if I restart all the guests in a differnt order. I can only reset this by restarting the host. As far as I have tested this, it really depends on the initial startup order of the guests after a host restart. This seems very strange to me. As I am quite new to all of this, I have no clue how to start searching for the problem here. Can anyone provide me with some hints?

Hello, I'm using libvirt and sanlock on qemu-kvm guests. Each guest has it's own Logical Volume for it's root filesystem. Sanlock is configured and working and prevents me from starting the same VM twice on multiple nodes and corrupting it's root filesystem. Each VM's domain XML resides on 2 servers that share the LVM volume group over fiber channel. In testing, I noticed that if I pause a VM on node 1, the sanlock lock is relinquished, and I am able to start the same VM, using the same root filesystem, on node 2. I get a lock error when unpausing node 1's VM if node 2's copy is still running, but by this point, the disk may already be corrupted. Is it necessary that paused VMs don't get to keep their locks? Is there a way to configure sanlock to lock when a VM is paused? Versions: sanlock(-devel, -lib) 2.3-1.el6 libvirt(-lock-sanlock, -client) 0.9.10-21.el6_3.8 I'm using NFS for the lockspace. [libvirt-users] How to copy snapshots of a VM to the other computer.

Currently, I've tried to move qemu VM image to a new computer. So, I copied VM image files in /var/lib/libvirt/images, VM xml files in /etc/libvirt/qemu, VM snapshot files in /var/lib/libvirt/qemu/snapshot to the same places at the new computer. Everything is OK except snapshot!! When I use "qemu-img info" for the copied VM image, I can see the snapshot list in the result as shown below: root@doc-scheduler:/var/lib/libvirt/images# qemu-img info VM22.img image: VM22.img file format: qcow2 virtual size: 10G (10737418240 bytes) disk size: 1.7G cluster_size: 65536 Snapshot list: ID TAG VM SIZE DATE VM CLOCK 1 VM22_A 228M 2013-01-31 10:06:45 00:06:38.110 But, when I use "virsh snapshot-list " for the copied VM, the result is empty as follows: root@doc-scheduler:~# virsh snapshot-list VM22 Name Creation Time State ------------------------------------------------------------ and of course, I can't revert to the snapshot. I am searching for directions for using live block migration to copy running vm's to a different storage pool. Example: VM1 running on HOST1, the image(s) for VM1 are stored in /var/lib/libvirt/images. I'd like to copy the disk image(s) that VM1 is using to /nfs/images. Today we`ve disabled creation of cgroup deeper than qemu/vm/ level and trace didn`t showed up under different workloads. So for libvirt itself, it may be a feature request to create thread-based cgroups iff any element of the VM` config requires that. As for cgroups, seems it is fatal to have very large amount of nested elements inside cpu on qemu-kvm, or on very large amount of threads - since I have limited core amount on each node, I can`t prove what exactly, complicated cgroup hierarchy or some side effects putting threads on the dedicated cgroup, caused all this pain. And, of course, without Windows(tm) bug is very hard to observe in the wild, since almost no synthetic test I have put on the linux VMs is able to show it.

I am using libvirt 0.10.2.2 and qemu-kvm 1.2.2 (qemu-kvm 1.2.0 + qemu 1.2.2 applied on top plus a number of stability patches). [libvirt-users] Libvirt support for windows

Hi, I want to use libvirt for windows but when i try to launch virsh it gives an error message saying "*error: invalid argument in transport methods unix, ssh and ext are not supported under Windows"* The version which I downloaded is libvirt-0.8.8.exe. I want to connect to two virtualization techniques --- *Virtualbox* and *VMWare* If libvirt is not supported on windows then is there any other tool or API which supports multiple virtualization technology? Thanks in advance..!!!!
