Hey guys, When I destroy a lxc container, It reported an error with details as following: root@debian:~$ vir destroy 901eef81-06b2-4252-aeef-53b87c402585 error: Failed to destroy domain 901eef81-06b2-4252-aeef-53b87c402585 error: internal error Some container PIDs refused to die root@debian:~$ vir version Compiled against library: libvirt 1.1.0 Using library: libvirt 1.1.0 Using API: LXC 1.1.0 Running hypervisor: LXC 3.2.46 What's the problem? Hi Guys, I started a lxc container with libvit in ubuntu Operating system, and succeed using lxc-enter-namespace to enter the namespaces and security context of the container. Release 0.11.0 is a bugfix and feature release for Oz. Hi, I use the QEMU-GlusterFS native integration (no Fuse mount) with the libvirt. Now I create a volume issuing : # qemu-img create gluster://localhost/gv1/test.img 5G Then using the libvirt I declare the following lines in my domain.xml : <disk type='network' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' cache='none'/> <source protocol='gluster' name='gv1/test.img'> <host name='127.0.0.1' transport='tcp' /> </source> <target dev='vda' bus='virtio'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x05' function='0x0'/> </disk> It works really well. But the better way, would be to only use the libvirt. Is it planned to support a native glusterFS pool type ? That would be great to be able to define a pool like this: <pool type='glusterfs'> <name>myname</name> <source protocol='gluster' volume='gv0'> <host name='127.0.0.1'/> </source> <target> <permissions> <mode>0700</mode> <owner>-1</owner> <group>-1</group> </permissions> </target> </pool> And then create new images using vol-create. Hi all, I am working with libvirt and I am trying to set cpu affinity. Now I can always use virsh vcpupin <domain_name> <vcpu> <pcpu> to pin vcpus to pcpus. I want to do it using Python API. Now, there is function pinVcpu which is supposed to do that. But this is not working. For example I gave dom.pinVcpu(0,1) but still my vcpu affinity is for all the pcpus. The function returns 0 (success). Any idea what am I doing wrong? Thanks. ~Peeyush Gupta

Hi, I try to run a debian testing guest inside a debian stable host and would like to use both physical displays to show virtual displays of my guest. Is this possible? I tried setting the heads attribute in the domain xml as described here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=885806#c1 I've tried virt-managers internal viewer, virt-viewer and spicy without any indication of a second display. [libvirt-users] How to trigger a script in a guest after resume? (aka guest system clock incorrect after host reboot with suspended guest)

Hi Is there a way i can trigger a script within a libvirt guest immediately after resume? E.g. i don't see any log message that indicates to a guest that it had been paused and was just woken up. The problem that i am trying to solve is that when i reboot the host (pausing all guests), the guests' system clocks are a few minutes late after resume. The guests RTC (current_clocksource = kvm-clock) are correct though, so a "hwclock --hctosys" fixed the offset. I only need to find out how to call hwclock right after resume! Right now i call hwclock every few minutes, but i'd like to shorten the window of wrong time. OTOH i'd like to avoid installing ntpd into all guests, given their perfectly fine RTCs. On the host i am using CentOS 6.4 with all patches and the packaged libvirt-0.10.2 and qemu-kvm-0.12.1.2. All guests are Ubuntu 12.04. /nils.

Hi Guys, When I created a lxc container by libvirt, I logged into the lxc container and noticed that info under /proc/ dir did not match the lxc container resource. Is the /proc dir in lxc container just showing the same thing as the lxc host? Warning - I'm fairly new to libvirt, lxc and systemd so there is a good chance I'm doing something terribly wrong here. However, instead of continuing to struggle, I figured I would mail the list for some advice. What I'm trying to accomplish is a libvirt-lxc, systemd-based container running on my system (Fedora 19). I've read that sharing the underlying OS filesystem with the containers doesn't work, so I've installed a minimal Fedora 19 install in /srv/mycontainer. Everything seems to work okay but what I'm struggling with is how to setup the initial accounts. I've tried to attach to the container using 'nsenter' (entering all the namespaces) but it doesn't appear that the bind mounts are in place. For example, I see the /etc/passwd for my host OS, not the container. Is there a better way to setup the initial accounts on the container? Hello People. We are currently exploring the possibility to use libvirt and kvm/quemu for production purposes. The general stability seems good enough and the performance is great. There are some issues we do not understand here yet. For security reasons we are considering the extensive use of Networkfilters for virtual machines. But we found some simple scheme for a test-server not to be working as we expected. It might well be that we misunderstand something here, so I am hoping someone could point out to us, where either we or perhaps libvirt failed in this example. We are using an ubuntu 13.04 Server running the provided "1.0.2-0ubuntu11.13.04.2" libvirt-bin using amd64-architecture. The type of VM should not be relevant for this problem. Its a linux-based xmpp-Server which uses ucarp. I reduced the used filter-file just so i could prove my point. It contains: <filter name='linux-based-xmpp-server' chain='root'> <uuid>fb539996-eed5-11e2-8bd3-00e081e0f040</uuid> <rule action='accept' direction='in' priority='999'> <tcp state='NEW' dstportstart='5222'/> </rule> <rule action='accept' direction='in' priority='999'> <tcp state='NEW' dstportstart='5269'/> </rule> <rule action='accept' direction='inout' priority='999'> <ip dstipaddr='224.0.0.18' proto='112'/> </rule> <rule action='reject' direction='inout' priority='999'> <all/> </rule> </filter> Practically it should allow TCP-traffic on Ports 5222,5269 incoming and incoming and outgoing traffic for ip protocol 112 to destination ip 224.0.0.18 (VRRP used by ucarp). All other traffic should be rejected. There is only one VM on the system and the VM has this ruleset attached. Note: It is clear to me that this example won't work as areal world example, because packets of the state ESTABLISHED,RELATED are not allowed through the firewall. I removed these rules because they where in a filter-file i referenced. After reloading the libvirt-bin i do get part of the rules in would expect in iptables: Chain FI-vnet0 (1 references) target prot opt source destination REJECT all -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 reject-with icmp-port-unreachable Chain FO-vnet0 (1 references) target prot opt source destination ACCEPT tcp -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 tcp dpt:5222 state NEW ACCEPT tcp -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 tcp dpt:5269 state NEW REJECT all -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 reject-with icmp-port-unreachable Chain HI-vnet0 (1 references) target prot opt source destination REJECT all -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 reject-with icmp-port-unreachable What is missing is any reference to the rule for ucarp (protocol 112). Please note though that removing the protocol and just allowing any ip traffic to 224.0.0.18 as a rule, does not appear in the iptables either. Am i misunderstanding anything here? Is there a bug in libvirt? How do you interpret this? Do you know of any other way to achieve the simple ruleset intended? I am hoping to get more information from this list. With outbound QoS setting in Libvirt XML, libvirt will add a tc ingress qdisc for traffic shaping. Then if you set VLAN tag to that tap device, this qdisc will automatically gone by no reason. Could anyone shed some lights where should I look into? I'm really confused and got no clue here. Thanks! Hello all, I have two issues: 1) I am unable to start a seemingly correct LXC domain (I cloned it from a working domain). 2) I am able to crash "libvirtd" by attempting to start the cloned domain, but starting the original works just fine. I humbly submit that item #2 is a bug - the "libvirtd" daemon should never crash due to anything the "libvirt" client throws at it. As for item #1, I'm not sure where I went wrong. A full walk-through is below (ending with a DIFF of the XML from the two domains). I created by original domain ("dwj-lnx-dev") a long time ago. Today I created the new domain ("dwj-hfax-dev") as follows: 1) Shutdown "dwj-lnx-dev" 2) Clone the root file system: "cd /vm/lxc/; cp -a dwj-lnx-dev dwj-hfax-dev" (2.5GB, ~5 min) 3) "libvirt -c lxc:/// dumpxml dwj-lnx-dev > a.xml" 4) ${EDITOR} a.xml a) changed MAC address, name, memory, source directory for "/" 5) "libvirt -c lxc:/// define a.xml" 6) Edit "/etc/bind/pri/*" and "/etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf" on my host. It does not matter is "dwj-lnx-dev" is running or not. Any attempt to start "dwj-hfax-dev" will crash libvirtd. [libvirt-users] OSX: trying to use libvirt 1.1.0 with VirtualBox 4.2

I see that libvirt 1.1.0 should now support virtualbox 4.2, but I'm having problems getting it to work in OSX. I have built it using homebrew, which now has 1.1.0 in its formulae. The error I get when tying to connect is shown below. Any suggestions for where I should look next? The error about "Failed to find user record for uid 'NNNNN'" is odd. libvirtd *is* started automatically, and runs as my own userid (brian, id 502). Each time libvirtd times out, and restarts again, it shows a different uid in this error message. Thanks, Brian. [libvirt-users] Permission problem with /dev/net/tun

The guest is Ubuntu precise; however, I see the same symptom in another raring container on the same host. What I tried to resolve this: 1) On the host, I echoed various stuff to the cgroup device files: cd /sys/fs/cgroup/devices/libvirt/lxc echo "c 10:200 rwm" > devices.allow echo "c 10:200 rwm" > depot/devices.allow echo a > depot/devices.allow ... and I see the successful results in depot/devices.list, but no success. 2) I inserted a line "/dev/net/tun rwk," into /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/lxc/container-base - no change. (I know, it seems kind of pointless - because it's about permissions to a device, not a path. You may deduce my desperation from this ... SELinux is not active. Mounts on /dev look normal to me: devfs on /dev type tmpfs (rw,mode=0755) devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,noexec,nosuid,gid=5,mode=0620) devpts on /dev/ptmx type devpts (rw,nosuid,relatime,gid=5,mode=620,ptmxmode=666) cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/devices type cgroup (rw,relatime,devices) Now comes the weird part: Once I umount /dev inside the container, the "hidden" /dev appears which contains a usable /dev/net/tun. So the mknod problem is probably due to the dropped capabilities - but why/how mounts the container a more restricted /dev on top of the prepared one ...?
