[libvirt-users] ps/2 mouse cannot be removed from guest

Hi, I installed Solaris 11(x86_64) as a guest in Fedora 19 KVM host and it works well. It seems that Solaris 11 can recognize only USB mouse but cannot recognize PS/2 mouse. When a PS/2 mouse is attached to the solaris 11 guest, something conflict occured and the mouse pointer is not moving on the solaris desktop. So, I tried to remove the PS/2 mouse from the guest, but I cannot remove it using virt manager. The "remove" button is grayed out by virt manager. I have to edit the /etc/libvirt/qemu/xxx.xml file to remove it. Why is it prevented from removing the PS/2 mouse by virt manager? I hope it wil be fixed. -- hisao

[libvirt-users] Kvm Libvirt dirty page log facility

Greetings! I am new to kvm Libvirt and are writing a python script to get the number of pre-copy cycles during a remote vm migration given memory size M of a VM in MB, the page dirty rate R of a vm in MB/s. My question is on how to get the page dirty rate. Does kvm libvirt provide a dirty page log facility that provides user space with a bitmap of modified pages since the last call? And if yes, please kindly direct me on how to get started. I have searched and come across things like VIR_NODE_MEMORY_STATS and kvm_get_dirty_log(struct kvm *kvm, struct kvm_dirty_log *log, int *is_dirty), I do not know if these are the ones and if yes how I can use them. H, I am using libvirt from maven using a nexus proxy pointing to http://www.libvirt.org/maven2/ It downloads the jar fine but is expecting libvirt-0.5.1.pom (and ...sha1). In the proxy only the jar appears. When I download and rename the pom to my local .m2 cache my build works fine. Is this a bug in the distribution of libvirt in its maven repo or is my dependency wrong somehow? Kind regards, Daan Hoogland

Greetings ... I already spent quite some time to debug this ... See the thread on gentoo-user ml for reference: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.user/270091 basically I get dropped connections when I try to edit a VM via virt-manager. Tested from my gentoo workstation and a fresh ubuntu installation inside a VM at my office. The server is a new and shiny gentoo box with (gentoo release-numbers): libvirt-1.1.2-r3 qemu-1.5.3 openssh-5.9_p1-r4 ... 64bit, lots of RAM and CPUs .. installed last week ... so no obvious cruft on there. plain ssh sessions work fine for me. I access the server over an IPSEC-VPN terminated on my pfsense-router and on the customers side there is a firewall. This firewall allows full access for my private subnet, TCP/UDP ports 1:65535 ... so there should be no restrictions. My host nw interfaces is auto br0 iface br0 inet static address x.x.x.178 network x.x.x.0 netmask x.x.x.x broadcast gateway x.x.x.x[gateway of eth0 earlier] bridge_ports eth0 bridge_fd 0 bridge_hello 2 bridge_maxage 12 bridge_stp off #dns-search google.com dns-nameservers x.x.x.x x.x.x.x with this config 1] net inside host is working 2]net inside vms created using nat is working but i have to manually ser interface file inside the NATD vm. 3] when i create virtualnetwork in routed mode using shared physical device br0 and assign vm to it the net inside vm not working . 4] created virtual network using only routed mode with any physical device instaead og br0 still net inside vm not working. I followed documentation on libvirt site . I want vms indifferent nw should communicate with each other like net1 and vm1 can ping vm2 in net2 .

Hello all! I try to use network filters for openvswitch interfaces. This is the xml configuration of my bridge interface <interface type='bridge'> <mac address='00:11:22:33:44:55'/> <source bridge='virbr1'/> <virtualport type='openvswitch'> <parameters interfaceid='0529d6b5-627c-4330-803f-0d7018e6d496'/> </virtualport> <model type='virtio'/> <filterref filter='myfilter'> <parameter name='IP' value='10.10.10.99'/> </filterref> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x06' function='0x0'/> </interface> The filter 'myfilter' is defined. If I start a domain with this interface all ports are correctly added to the 'virbr1' bridge, plus libvirt creates firewall rules using ebtables tool. BUT ebtables controls linux bridges, not openvswich bridges. As far as I know OVS has its own tool to create firewall rules for its bridges - ovs-ofctl. How to make libvirt to use the right tool for creating firewall rules for OVS bridges? If I remove ebtables tool and try to start the domain, libvirt complains "cannot create rule since ebtables tool is missing." Thank you.

[libvirt-users] Bringing up a guest with network disabled

Hello all, I have a KVM guest VM which is a clone of a production machine running on a different physical server, incarnated from an image backup. I want to start up the clone, but obviously it has the same IP address at the moment, and naturally I want to avoid an IP conflict. Normally I'd mount the clone image, go in and change the network config to allocate a different IP, but because it's set up with its whole disk as a LVM that's a bit painful. Is there a simple way I can disable the networking for the guest clone in the config file, so I can VNC into its console and change its IP address config that way? [libvirt-users] Changing test_driver.c file

Hi All, For some testing purpose I've changed some content in src/test/test_driver.c and then used "make" command to compile and build the code. Then I copied the "libvirt.so.0.9.10.so" file to the target machine and restart the libvirtd daemon, but the changes I made in test_driver.c is nothing reflected. I'm not sure whether I'm missing something. Is it moving only the "libvirt.so.0.9.10.so" is enough or I need to move some .a files ? , but I'm not seeing any ".a" in the kvm host related to libvirt to replace. Hi, I need to mount a directory from the host in a guest, with passthough (ie, owner id and group set in the guest should be preserved and written on the host). I've read that for this to work, qemu needs to be run as root. Is there a way to start qemu as root via libvirt? Thanks raph

[libvirt-users] Snapshots: Where they are stored and how to use them?

Firstly I'd like to learn where a snapshot is stored once it has been made. I understand that the principle is that when changes occur in the VM, the difference is written to the snapshot, thus recording the differences between the date/time of the snapshot and the current value of the VM. Is that a correct assessment of the process? If that is indeed so, can I take regular snapshots and back then up onto external storage to provide a sort of system restore point at certain times in the past? I have scanned the server hard disks for the snapshot images after running "sudo virsh snapshot-create Windows /etc/libvirt/snapshot.xml" and the system reports a snapshot was taken, yet I cannot find any file that contains the snapshot. $ sudo virsh snapshot-list Windows Name Creation Time State ------------------------------------------------------------ Windows 2013-10-02 12:41:06 +0200 running What will happen to the snapshot if the host server is restarted? Hi, I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I was wondering if there is a way to set up a KVM VM using an XML document as input into Virsh that uses bridged networking over a wireless card. I understand that wireless cards to not natively support, but I was able to find a working solution here: http://blog.ericwhite.ca/articles/2011/04/creating-a-wireless-bridge/. The issue is, I can use this bridge by calling KVM directly. However, I cannot figure out how to get this same configuration on an XML file that I input into Virsh for the creation of a VM. My understanding is that libvirt calls KVM/QEMU at some point, but I may be mistaken. Thanks, Joshua

Is there no way in which one can access the host's filesystem from within a guest OS. Libvirt's virt-manager GUI seems to indicate that there is, by virtue of the FileSystem Passthrough option as shown below [image: Inline image 1] The scenario I typically have is a Linux Server on a ext4 file system, with a Windows 7 Guest OS running a KVM machine. No matter what combination of options I choose, I can never "mount" the host drive in Windows to be able to transfer files from one to the other. Both VMWare Player and Virtualbox have this capability, yet I find this sorely lacking in libvirt/virt-manager. What do I need to do to make this work? regards Roland

hi, i am facing some error i am not able to find how to solve this. i just explain my whole things. i installed libvirt 1.1.2 from source under /opt/ folder. ./configure --with-xen=yes, make , make install. i faced some internal error so runned make clean , make distclean under libvirt source folder. then agian i tried to install libvirt 1.1.2 ./configure --prefix=/usr --localstatedir=/var --sysconfdir=/etc --with-xen=yes --with-libxl=yes make make install. i faced some error. i mailed those error in my previous mail. then i cleared (removed by make clean) the libvirt 1.1.2 and i tried to install the libvirt 1.1.1 with the following commands: ./configure --prefix=/usr --localstatedir=/var --sysconfdir=/etc --with-xen=yes make make install i am getting the below error. root(a)boss[libvirt-1.1.1]#libvirtd -v libvirtd: /usr/local/lib/libvirt.so.0: version `LIBVIRT_PRIVATE_1.1.1' not found (required by libvirtd) give me some solution to solve the above error.. regards, cooldharma06.

[libvirt-users] LXC, libvrt-1.1.2-r3 (Gentoo), "/dev/tty12", mount /dev with inverse of 'nodev'?

Hello again, TL;DR: Today I noticed that my LXC container was out of space in "/dev". It took me a few minutes to figure out why. There were only 23 files there. The "/dev" fs quota was 64K, and all was taken up. The problem was that "syslog-ng" was writing "console" messages to "/dev/tty12". But "/dev/tty12" was not a device node, so the kernel "(2)open"ed it as a file and dutifully wrote to it. I have corrected my syslog-ng config, but I was wondering.... Is there any legitimate reason to EVER have a regular file in "/dev"? If not, can libvirt or Linux be modified so that the filesystem can be mounted in such a way to prevent a regular file from ever being created there? Kind of like an inverse of the "nodev" mount option seen in various filesystems (ext3, nfs). IMHO, I would rather have syslog-ng (or other tool) fail to open a regular file in "/dev", than for it is succeed and then fill up the small fs. Thoughts? [libvirt-users] Unable to start libvirt_lxc domain a second time after shutdown

Hi, I'm unable to start a lxc domain again after shutting it down. Something doesn't seem to "clean up" the socket file (and probably more), as the error message says "Unable to start Domain: Failed to connect socket to '/var/run/libvirt/lxc/test.sock': Connection refused." I can create a domain with the same config as the one thats shutted down, but with other uid and name, of course, and I'm able to boot up this domain. However, the init process is much shorter (some filesystems are not mounted), so maybe there is still something left "open" after the lxc container is shut down? [libvirt-users] Does libvirt support xapi/xe toolstack?

Hello, I installed the last version of Xen (xenserver-core-0.9.0-9.x86_64 from yum) and I'm trying to manage my VMs with virsh. The version that I installed is using the Xapi/xe toolstack. The problem I have is that I'm not seeing the VM that is started with "virsh -c xen:/// list --all". Here is what I have: root# xe vm-list uuid ( RO) : 022226ed-07be-37fc-5b52-f798320e2726 name-label ( RW): vm1 power-state ( RO): running uuid ( RO) : 394fa633-f600-45f9-bea7-3bf4a9fd06fd name-label ( RW): Control domain on host: unknown power-state ( RO): running root# virsh -c xen:/// list --all Id Name State ---------------------------------------------------- # According to [1] it seems that libvirt is using Xend daemon to communicate. The problem is that Xend is now deprecated since Xen 4.1. So am I wrong with this assumption or is there something to configure to be able to use libvirt with Xapi/XE toolstack? Hello all, i am now running xen 4.2.3 on centos 6.4. As we know, the default libvirt package could not work well with xen on centos6.x. So, i compile the libvirt by my self, and i have compiled libvirt-1.1.1, libvirt-1.1.2, libvirt-1.1.3. After the installation of libvirt, i run virt-manager, but it print error as below. *ImportError: /usr/local/lib/libvirt.so.0: version `LIBVIRT_PRIVATE_0.10.2' not found (required by /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/libvirtmod.so)* I found one topic talk about the erorr, but get nothing https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=41893&forum=56 anyone meet the same error as me? any response is appreciated!

Hi Guys! Recently , I am searching way to run libvirt-python on windows , and using the python api just like in linux . But I found that ,libvirt-python can only run in cygwin environment . In windows environment , when I input "import libvirt" It indicates *ImportError: DLL load failed:* * * * it seemed something wrong when importing libvirtmod* * * * *the libvirt.py libvirtmod.pyd is compiled in *cygwin* environment * * But it doesnot show anything more. Is there anyone do this thing like me ? Anyone can provide any solution to use python-libvirt in a normal python programe. Thanks.
