Hi libvirt: -------- My "short" question is - is there a recipe for installing F19 100% automatically with static IPs? I'm using a combination of url based install with a kickstart script pasted to a gist in order to bootstrap the entire thing. It **used** to work (fedora16), but recently stopped. ------- Note : Right now Im not using the os-variant switch because fedora17+ arent listed as OS variant's in my version of virt-install. That in and of itself could be the problem -- any way to update virt-install's os-variant list? ------ With Fedora 16, I found that the url based install failed due to a corrupt rpm. I assume this is just because f16 isn't supported anymore so errors on the web site for it are not being fixed. With Fedora 18/19/... Im finding other types of errors related to missing downloaded components when the bootstrapping virt-install starts. In particular, a 404 (not found) error when fetching " product.img " from the OS url. Details below. <note, any insights into things I may be missing due to ignorance would also be appreciated here> -------- With Fedora 18: I've noticed that libvirt gives me some errors with the new generation of fedora formatted os's source directories. It looks for a file "product.img", which (I beleive) doesnt exist in fedora17+. In particular, it is looking for the "product.img" file, under http://redhat.download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/19/Fedor… . virt-install --hvm --name f18x86_64a --ram 1024 --file /var/lib/libvirt/images/f18x86_64a.img,size=20 --location http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/re… 20 -x "ks=<url_to_kickstart_file>" ------- Running "virt-install list", it seems that the only fedoras known to virt-install are up to fedora16: fedora16 : Fedora 16 fedora15 : Fedora 15 fedora14 : Fedora 14 fedora13 : Fedora 13 fedora12 : Fedora 12 fedora11 : Fedora 11 fedora10 : Fedora 10 fedora9 : Fedora 9 fedora8 : Fedora 8 fedora7 : Fedora 7 fedora6 : Fedora Core 6 fedora5 : Fedora Core 5 ------- Do I need to update virt-install in order to install F17+ from source? Hi, Virsh destroy is always failing with below error. [host:~]$ virsh destroy XYZ--2 error: Failed to destroy domain XYZ--2 error: Requested operation is not valid: domain is not running [host:~]$ virsh list --all Id Name State ---------------------------------------------------- - XYZ--2 shut off [host:~]$ host:~]$ libvirtd --version libvirtd (libvirt) 1.0.1 [host:~]$ host:~]$ virsh version Compiled against library: libvirt 1.0.1 Using library: libvirt 1.0.1 Using API: QEMU 1.0.1 Running hypervisor: QEMU 0.13.0 [host:~]$ same VM was working with older libvirt vrsion: [host:~]$ virsh version Compiled against library: libvir 0.8.7 Using library: libvir 0.8.7 Using API: QEMU 0.8.7 Running hypervisor: QEMU 0.13.0 [host:~]$ when we upgrade to latest libvirt version:1.0.1, VM destroy is failing. [libvirt-users] fsck and guest images

Hey! I have some RHEL6 hypervisors and the VMs are in raw qemu image files in a local raid array linux raid + lvm + ext3. When a kernel update is installed a reboot is necessary, usually it has been more than 180 days since the last reboot and the file system is fsck'd and this takes 2-3 hours. I am curious to know if there is any documentation that addresses the pro's and con's of fsck'ing the volume containing /var/lib/libvirt/images. Could fsck make a change to the underlying file system that the guest images are stored on, which the guest operating system may not be able to handle when it runs its own file system maintenance, i.e. fsck or chkdsk. Is file system maintenance on the hypervisor volume storing the VM images redundant to the VM's own file system consistancy utilities. Regards, Jamie Ian Fargen

[libvirt-users] How to set cpuset.cpus dynamically?

Hi all, I have been trying to run a VM on some particular cpu cores. Now the thing is I can set cpuset with virt-install and that will reflect in VM's XML and it will define the affinity. But what about cpuset.cpus? That is inherited directly from the parent. Is there any way to set it when launching the VM? Again, if I have given cpuset during virt-install, why doesn't cpuset.cpus reflect the value instead of inheriting it from parent? Thanks. ~Peeyush Gupta

[libvirt-users] Not able to create two cpusets with exclusive access

Hi all, I am trying to set up exclusive cpu access for two different VMs. Now, in the hierarchy, the directories of both the VM's are inside /libvirt/qemu/$VM. I have 3 cpus on my machine. I have done echo 0 > cpuset.cpus and echo 1 > cpuset.cpu_exclusive for one VM. Now, I am launching another VM using virt-install and I have given the option --cpuset 1. There is no overlapping of cpus here, but still libvirt is showing error that it's unable to create cgroup for the new VM. Is it possible to have two exclusive cpusets inside a same hierarchy? ~Peeyush Gupta

Hi all, I have been trying to use cpuset with virt-install. I am using the following command: $ virt-install --virt-type kvm --name Ubuntu13 --ram 1024 --cdrom=/home/peeyush/Downloads/ubuntu-13.04-desktop-i386.iso --cpuset=0,2 --disk path=/var/lib/libvirt/guest.qcow2,size=10,format=qcow2 Now, according to virt-install man page, my VM's cpu affinity should be set to pcpu 0 and 2 . But when I did virsh vcpuinfo $VM, it shows that the affinity is to all cpus. I checked the xml file of my VM and it has the cpuset attribute, but still my VM is running on all cpus. ~Peeyush Gupta

Hello I have a question about live migration when libvirt requires sasl authentication. I have managed to configure remote access for user nova with sasl enabled (credentials stored in auth.conf - https://review.openstack.org/#/c/12706/) It looks like live migration do not use these credentials at all. What is more it thinks that sasl is not not configured: 2013-07-01 09:49:09.317+0000: 17997: error : virNetSASLSessionClientStart:484 : authentication failed: Failed to start SASL negotiation: -4 (SASL(-4): no mechanism available: No worthy mechs found) 2013-07-01 09:49:09.317+0000: 17997: error : doPeer2PeerMigrate:2527 : operation failed: Failed to connect to remote libvirt URI qemu+tcp://n12c1/system I execute migration like this: nova live-migration c923af69-4cb3-46dd-8bd2-871812d7d223 n12c1 Nova.conf: live_migration_flag=VIR_MIGRATE_UNDEFINE_SOURCE,VIR_MIGRATE_PEER2PEER,VIR_MIGRATE_LIVE Could you please let me know whether nova/libvirt support p2p live migration with sasl and if so point out what might be misconfigured? Disabling sasl solves all my problems but I have to configure some authentication. Hello According to client authentication in documentation ( http://libvirt.org/auth.html) it is possible to store credentials in auth.conf file and make appropriate mappings to servers: [auth-$SERVICE-$HOSTNAME] credentials=$CREDENTIALS Is it possible to use the same credentials for many servers without explicitly describing it? [libvirt-users] VMware distributed port groups..Supported?

Hi, I installed libvirt on CentOS 6 today, only to find I could create the volume, create the VM, but could not assign the interface to a distributed port group. I then downloaded the latest source, compiled, and it looks to be the same...unless its under a command I'm not recognizing? Does anybody have the great tip that is going to set me free? I hope? Everything we use is on the vSwitches, as we run 60-80 VLAN's to each cluster member. -- Thanks, Morgan
