Hi, I'd like to live-migration after snapshots deleted. But it doesn't work.Here's my steps: # virsh snapshot-create VM # virsh snapshot-delete VM Snapshot # virsh migrate --live VM qemu+ssh://localadmin@compute3/system And It comes out this message: # internal error: unable to execute QEMU command 'migrate-set-capabilities': There's a migration process in progress Even I create a no-metadata snapshot, it still have same error. After I reboot the VM, the live-migration finally works. Does it has any suggestion way or command to solve this problem without reboot the VM? Here's my environment: Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS Compiled against library: libvirt 1.3.1 Using library: libvirt 1.3.1 Using API: QEMU 1.3.1 Running hypervisor: QEMU 2.5.0 Best regards, Chihhang Wu

[libvirt-users] virt-manager / remote desktop latency issues

Hi, I'm using virt-viewer to launch remote desktop connections The connection to the KVM host is using ssh The virtual machines/guests are running a GNOME desktop I've observed some latency issues, for example, changing focus from one terminal to another is a bit sluggish. Typing isn't too bad. The WAN connection is gigabit fibre from my home into a local data center. Ping times are about 0.8ms to the physical server. Smokeping shows there is no packet loss and the latency is constant. Can I do anything to tweak the .ssh/config to make it better? It occurred to me that adding "IPQoS lowdelay" might be useful as it defaults to "throughput" for non-interactive connections. Maybe virt-manager should add that on the ssh command line? Is there any way to see SPICE latency statistics in the virt-manager GUI? Would any other SPICE viewer make a difference? Are there any changes I should make to the GNOME desktop configuration to make it work better through SPICE? Can anybody make any other suggestions? Regards, Daniel

[libvirt-users] Live migration with non-shared ZFS volume

Hi all, I'm using ZFS on Linux block volumes as my VM storage and want to do live migrations between hypervisors. If I create ZFS snapshot of used volume on source host, send it do destination host (zfs send/recv) and then run live migration with VIR_MIGRATE_NON_SHARED_DISK flag, the migration works OK. But this procedure copies the whole disk twice which is a huge downside. The best solution would be, if libvirt could send the incremental data since last snapshot itself but this feature is not there (AFAIK). So I am thinking about a workaround: 1. Create snapshot using: "virsh snapshot-create --xmlfile snap.xml --disk-only --no-metadata test-domain" which will start writing snapshot data into temporary qcow2 file <domainsnapshot> <disks> <disk name='/dev/zstore/test-volume'> <source file='/tmp/test-volume.qcow2'/> </disk> </disks> </domainsnapshot> 2. Create snapshot of backing ZFS volume and send it to destination host. 3. Migrate the domain Currently, in step 3 I need to create empty qcow snapshot file on the destination host, otherwise the migration fails with: "Operation not supported: pre-creation of storage targets for incremental storage migration is not supported" My question is: Is it possible to do live migration with blockcommit operation? If not, would it be hard to implement? I imagine it like I would start migration with some special parameter (e.g. VIR_MIGRATE_NON_SHARED_INC_COMMIT) which would only migrate data from qcow snapshot to destination storage. This would ensure the disk consistency and avoid useless whole disk copy. Or do you have any other idea how to solve this? BR. Daniel Kucera.

[libvirt-users] Performance monotoring: Perf Event support

Hi everyone, I am using libvirt 2.5.0. I'd like to enable the "perf events" to monitoring my vm performance such as l3 cache. But it failed with "error: argument unsupported: unable to enable host cpu perf event for cmt". 1. Could you please give some hints on how to check if my host CPU supports cmt,mbm, is it displayed in /proc/cpuinfo? 2. Does the kernel version matters as well to support it? Thanks, Hui

I have used virsh snapshot-create-as <VM name> <snapshot name> "<snapshot description>" --diskspec "vda,snapshot=external,file=/path/to/external-snapshot" --disk-only --atomic to create an external snapshot of a running VM. I followed it with virsh blockpull <VM name> --path /path/to/external-snapshot and monitored it until done. I confirmed it with qemu-img info /path/to/external-snapshot which shows no backing store. However, when I do grep {/etc,/run}/libvirt/qemu/<VM name>.xml the xml for the VM still shows a backing store in the /run/... definition (but not in the /etc/... definition, my understanding is that the /etc/... definition won't be updated until the VM is shut down): <disk type='file' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' type='qcow2'/> <source file='/var/lib/libvirt/images/external-snapshot.qcow2'/> <backingStore type='file' index='1'> <format type='qcow2'/> <source file='/var/lib/libvirt/images/original-image-file.qcow'/> <backingStore/> </backingStore> <target dev='hda' bus='ide'/> <alias name='ide0-0-0'/> <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='0' target='0' unit='0'/> </disk> This is using libvirtd version 1.3.1 and qemu-img version 2.5.0. [libvirt-users] ZFS: creating a pool in a created zfs does not work, only when using the whole zfs-pool.

Hi, I’m new here so apologies if this has been answered before. I have a box that uses ZFS for everything (ubuntu 17.04) and I want to create a libvirt pool on that. My ZFS pool is named „big" So i do: > zfs create big/zpool > virsh pool-define-as --name zpool --source-name big/zpool --type zfs > virsh pool-start zpool > virsh pool-autostart zpool > virsh pool-list > virsh vol-create-as --pool zpool --name test1 --capacity 1G > virsh vol-list zpool Everything seems to work (no error message, vol-list shows the created volume, I can see the volume via zfs list -t all). -BUT- I cannot use that volume via virt-manager and after a short while it’s no longer listed via virsh vol-list zpool. The very same thing works as expected if I create a new zfs pool which I hand into libvirt. So instead of creating a pool from "big/zpool“ I create a pool names „somepool“ on a free device and -voila- everything works. Hope I did make myself clear? Best regards, thies

The wiki suggests that Network Manager doesn't support bridges[1] but I think that is out-of-date. Other documents like this[2] show how to set up bridges in Network Manager. For users wanting to run libvirt/KVM on their desktop system, can they now configure a bridge through Network Manager and then use it in virt-manager to create a guest without editing any of their configuration files by hand? Would it be possible for virsh or virt-manager to be enhanced to go one step further and automatically create bridges in Network Manager (using some API) on demand so the user doesn't have to do anything outside of virt-manager?
