Hi guys, when I detach an interface from vm during boot (vm boot not finished), it always fail. I'm not sure if there is an existing bug. Set hostname of guest during installation time

Hi, I would like to set the hostname when installing a guest, with the below command the hostname is not set to 'try06' in the guest: virt-install --name=try06 --graphic none --pxe --network bridge=virbr0 How can I set the hostname of the guest during installation time? guest-fsfreeze-freeze freezes all mounted block devices

I wondered if anyone here can confirm that virsh qemu-agent-command domain '{"execute":"guest-fsfreeze-freeze"}' Freezes all mounted block devices filesystems. So if I use 4 block devices they are all frozen for snapshotting. Or just the root fs?

Hello everyone, I would like to ask a question regarding to disable UFO of virtio vNIC in my guest. I have read the document at https://libvirt.org/formatdomain.html *host* The csum, gso, tso4, tso6, ecn and ufo attributes with possible values on and off can be used to turn off host offloading options. By default, the supported offloads are enabled by QEMU. *Since 1.2.9 (QEMU only)* The mrg_rxbuf attribute can be used to control mergeable rx buffers on the host side. Possible values are on (default) and off. *Since 1.2.13 (QEMU only)* *guest* The csum, tso4, tso6, ecn and ufo attributes with possible values on and off can be used to turn off guest offloading options. Could you please help with questions about the net failover feature

Hi laine, I have leave some questions on IRC, but my VPN broken time after time. Please ignore the questions on IRC. In my understanding, the standby and primary hostdev interface may be in different subnet. I'm not sure whether it is correct. Could you please help to explain? Thank you in advance. For example, primary hostdev is connected to vf-pool with <pf='eth0'/>, while the standby is connected to NAT network with " forward dev='eth0'". The standby interface will get ip as 192.168.122.x, but after NAT, it will be in the same subnet of the vf. So after the VF is unplugged, the packet will still broadcast in the same subnet, and the vm will get the packet as the standby share the same mac. Right? Hi all, I'm aware that it is possible to plug pre-created macvtap devices to libvirt guests - tracked in RFE [0]. My interpretation of the wording in [1] and [2] is that it is also possible to plug pre-created tap devices into libvirt guests - that would be a requirement to allow kubevirt to run with less capabilities in the pods that encapsulate the VMs. I took a look at the libvirt code ([3] & [4]), and, from my limited understanding, I got the impression that plugging existing interfaces via `managed='no' ` is only possible for macvtap interfaces. Would you be able to shed some light into this ? Is it possible on libvirt-5.6.0 to plug pre-created tap devices to libvirt guests ? qemu hook: event for source host too

Hello, this is my first time posting on this mailing list. I wanted to suggest a addition to the qemu hook. I will explain it through my own use case. I use a shared LVM storage as a volume pool between my nodes. I use lvmlockd in sanlock mode to protect both LVM metadata corruption and concurrent volume mounting. When I run a VM on a node, I activate the desired LV with exclusive lock (lvchange -aey). When I stop the VM, I deactivate the LV, effectively releasing the exclusive lock (lvchange -an). When I migrate a VM (both live and offline), the LV has to be activated on both source and target nodes, so I have to use a shared lock (lvchange -asy). That's why I need a hook event on the source host too (as far as I know after my tests, the migration event is only triggered on the target host). Is such a feature a possibility? Migrate to a bigger disk possible?

Hello, I have a qcow2 disk what needs to become increased. I don't have space on the location where it is now to have it two time, so I want to live-migrate it to another host. On the other host I have to create a qcow2 disk before I can migrate. What would happen when I would create there a bigger qcow2 disk then the original one? About Libvirt Setmem&dommemstat Function

I have sent a similar email about this problem. But I did not describe carefully, so I would like to explain it in more details. I am using 'virsh setmem' to ajust vm memory online. However, I don't know what is the lowerlimit that can be set to. And I try to use 'virsh dommemstat' to get 'unused' memory so that I can calculate the lowerlimit memory with this value, but it doesn't work when it comes to windows systems as I cannot set vm memory down to 'available - unused' in windows system. I suppose it's caches memory that causes this problem, so I upgrade my libvirt & qemu in order to get 'stat_disk_caches'. Although I upgrade libvirt to v4.10.0, qemu upgrade to v4.1.0, I cannot get this value. In summary, I came across two problems. How can I know the exact lowerlimit memory that can be set to in one vm? And if I need 'stat_disk_caches' value, how can I get it properly? My libvirt version: v4.10.0, qemu version:v4.1.0, hypervisor working on centos7.6 system.

macvtap direct

Hi Couple of questions around macvtap direct usage: 1) is the document here current? https://libvirt.org/formatnetwork.html#examplesDirect I have been able to get host to guest network traffic without any special configuration or switch since Fedora 28 when I first started using it. Using <forward mode=vepa> requires switch port mirroring, but just using <forward mode=bridge> doesn't. 2) do any of the language libraries make assumptions that libvirt networks must have a <bridge name=xx> attribute? Foreman's Ruby interface to libvirt errors out with attempting to build a VM on a KVM host with a network defined with <forward mode=bridge> https://projects.theforeman.org/issues/25890 thanks Subhendu

About Libvirt Setmem&dommemstat Function

I am using 'virsh setmem' to adjust the vm memory. But I don't know what is the lowerlimit memory that can be adjusted to, so I try to update the version of libvirt&qemu to get caches of the vm memory so that I can calculate the lowerlimit. And when I upgrade libvirt to 4.10.0, qemu upgrade to 4.1.0, still, I cannot get 'stat-disk-caches'.  How can I solve it ? Thx.

Hi everyone and Martin I would like to confirm the conversation we had in regard the possible limitation of firmware auto-select feature that’s been released since v5.20. I recall you saying that there were a lot of issues with auto select and later they shipped it into a Json file , it still didn’t solve all the problems, did it? Is it better to explicitly specify the loader and nvram path than using auto-select ? Storage cleaning

Hi everybody, we have a Centos 6 host with libvirtd 0.10.2. It's holding a storage pool of about 3.5 TB with 4 VMs. I decided to rearrange them, so I destroyed and undefined two of them. But now I am not able to install a new one because virsh gives me an "not enough space left". Those two undefined VMs still linger around somehow occupying a lot of that storage. How can I get rid of them? Unit libvirtd.service could not be found. on VM

Hi all, Some background: I recently has some issues with libvirt on my laptop when I got the error 'operation failed: pool 'default' already exists with uuid dd48b6ad-9a00-46eb-a3a4-c122d8a294a5' when I connected virt-manager. I was finally able to resolve it yesterday, when I removed libvirt and all its related content in /etc/libvirt, removed the pool by its UUID, deleted virbr0 & virbro-nic, removed the default network, reinstalled and created the network & default pool again Now I got libvirtd on my laptop up & running. However, when I install vms on my laptop, they don't have libvirtd.service This is the network configuration XML: <interface type="network"> <mac address="52:54:00:d0:40:69"/> <source network="default" portid="171a745c-f96d-412a-baa7-ee1feeaed6ac" bridge="virbr0"/> <target dev="vnet1"/> <model type="virtio"/> <alias name="net0"/> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x03" function="0x0"/> </interface> I installed the vms with virt-manager. The Network source is Virtual network 'default': NAT I'm using CentOS8.1 on both my laptop & vms. I was hoping to see some error output from the syscall but the line that should contain it is empty: 2020-01-20 19:47:15.589+0000: 8579: debug : virBPFLoadProg:78 : Can you please check system logs and output of dmesg? I've managed to run into this article [1] that explains that even if you have all permissions and no SELinux you can still be blocked by something called kernel_lockdown and it should appear in dmesg. libvirt object IVirtualBox is null

Hi, I'm using libvirt to manage virtual machines created with VirtualBox-6.0, however when I try to start, to shut down virsh vm I get the message of object IVirtualBox is null. However, if I leave the VirtualBox graphical interface open it works normally. Can anyone help or is experiencing the same problem? Thanks, Kilida2020
