Hello everyone, I have followed this guide to enable my Windows 10 guest to reach my Arch Linux host: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/ht… My VM now has 2 NICs: - macvtap (VEPA) - virtual network 'isolated' I have statically assigned the IP 192.168.254.2 to my guest. The host's IP is 192.168.254.1. The interface it is using on the host is *virbr1*. I am able to ping the host from the guest and vice versa, so the network connectivity seems to be generally working. To control my VM I'd like to use Synergy which I have already set up and tested successfully once with the VM as the Server, but never since. When I try to connect the Synergy client from the host to a server running on the guest, I get the error *"failed to connect to server: address not found for: 192.168.254.2"*. [libvirt-users] libvirt + openvswitch, <parameters interfaceid='x'/> seems less-than-useful?

Hey folks, I'm working on setting up a Cuckoo sandbox malware lab at home, and can't seem to get openvswitch and libvirt to work together as-documented. I'm not subscribed to the list, so please reply-all. Thanks in advance! I've debugged this, and I think the interfaceid stuff in network XML isn't doing much besides setting a custom interfaceid in an OpenVSwitch table that really has no effect on the operation of OpenVSwitch. I think the -- set Interface vnet0 "external-ids:iface-id="{uuid here}" command run by libvirt doesn't actually set the _uuid of a new interface. :( It's just for an external system (e.g. libvirt) to track an interface *it* creates in OVS. I've got an OVS switch, "malware0" which is my malware lab network. I made a "monitor0" interface, and told OVS to make that a span/mirror of all the traffic on the malware0 switch. I attach monitor0 to my cuckoo VM, and boot the VM. Well, actually libvirt REALLY wants to create the interface itself, so I have to delete the monitor0 interface from OVS. I boot the VM, libvirt creates the monitor0 interface (with a different UUID) and it's not a span/mirror port any more. :( I had all the ports in the cuckoo VM <parameters interfaceid='{uuid here}'/>, but libvirt keeps deleting/creating ports and the OVS internal UUID changes, which means any setting applied in OVS (e.g. setting a port as a mirror) is lost during the add/delete cycle. hi users I have my dhcpd to serve nothing but virbr0 (libvirt), OS is Centos 7.2 Dhcpd would not start, complaining like this: No subnet declaration for virbr0 (no IPv4 addresses). ** Ignoring requests on virbr0. If this is not what you want, please write a subnet declaration in your dhcpd.conf file for the network segment to which interface virbr0 is attached. ** ##SELECTION_END## and systemctl -l shows: ... systemd[1]: start request repeated too quickly for dhcpd.service ... but suffice to restart dhcpd and all works! I'v customized systemd's service conf, I've put: After=libvirtd.service Requisite=libvirtd.service but this did not help. Would you share your thoughts? Systemd list say it's libvirt (wrong)doing. many thanks. L.

Hi all, I am trying to run some performance tests using libvirt 1.2.17. For these tests it is necessary to set a specific affinity for the VCPUs of a running VM. The problem is, that I noticed a significant performance drop in my metrics when using 'vcpupin' from the virsh console instead of running 'taskset' natively. Specifically the methods I am comparing are 1. Using native shell taskset -a -cp $MY_CPUSET $MY_DOMAIN_PID 2. Using virsh console (performance ~30% down) for all $VCPUs virsh vcpupin my_domain -cpulist $MY_CPUSET -vcpu $VCPU -live virsh emulatorpin my_domain -cpulist $MY_CPUSET -live It seems that the usage of 'vcpupin' causes a performance drop even if it is run alongside 'taskset' on the same $CPU_SET Functionally everything seems to be working when I check the '/proc/' filesystem cat /proc/MY_DOMAIN_PID/*/status | grep Cpus_allowed_list My questions are: 1. Has anybody else noticed this? 2. Is this expected based on the implementation details? 3. Is this a bug that is fixed in a newer libvirt version? 4. Is there a solution to this issue? Friends: I need some help and guidance from you regarding this virt-install issue I am seeing. OS : SuseEnterpriseLinuxServer (SLES) 12 Service Pack 1 virt-install version on the box virtual@SLES12-bare:~> virt-install --version 1.2.1 libvirt version : libvirt-1.3.4-565.1.x86_64 What I tried: ========= I tried to start virt-install as regular user and I am seeing errors listed below. If I start the same with sudo it works (the user virtual shown here is a sudo enabled user) I really want to start the virt-install as a regular user. Please help. [libvirt-users] Dump network traffic from each VM.

Hi guys, Does anybody know how to dump the network trafic from each virtual machine using libvirt? Here, we usually use VPN softwares and other network tools inside Virtual Machines (Windows and Linux). Sometimes, this applications does not work properly, so we need to dump the network traffic of each Virtual Machine to compare and debug. How can I enable it using libvirt? I know that if you use a QEMU instance, you can enable the dump using "-netdev dump,...". Thanks! :-) Julio Cesar Faracco

[libvirt-users] Need help for block committing

Hi all. Can snapshots of identical images being blocked committed to the base images that are not the original ones? For example, suppose I have base0 and made a snapshot of it called SN0, then I copy base0 as base0', can SN0 be block committed into base0'? I think it's possible in theory but the block commit command just takes vm, base, and top as parameters, since the snapshot file is taken from another image I don't think I can use this command to do what I want. Or can I use qemu-img to do this? Thanks.

[libvirt-users] host freeze when starting VM

Hi together, when I´m starting a VM my host freezes gradually. This seems to happen because its running out of memory and no other process is able to do anything. I have 16GB of ram in total. 8GB are reserved for hugepages. So for the daily business on the host I have 8GB left. I don´t run many or extraordinary consuming software on the host - normally just a gnome session and the chromium browser. Right now htop tells me that 10.1 of 15.4 GB are occupied, so that should be about 2GB, because I suppose 8GB are just reserved for the hugepages. I don´t have any swap space. In my latest attempt I gave a newly created VM 64MB of ram and this also brought the system down to its knees. So I would like to understand why this is happening. Is it some configuration issue I'm not aware of or maybe even some bug? Can someone give any idea on this? Thanks in advance Alex

Friends: I am new to this and don't flame me yet. Here is what I am facing. I installed libvirt stuff and then I run virt-manager to create a vm. When I run the virt-manager I am seeing issue Namespace GtkVnc not available for version 2.0 How do I interact with the console screen so I can hit Enter key and do <ALT + F2> etc., ? Is virt-manager my only choice ? How to use VNC to connect to the virt-manager screen, not the VM's console ? ============= Can I create VM with virsh and then set vnc for that and connect to that with VNC ? -Narahari

Hi I'm trying to create a volume in an existing storage pool using python by calling createXML() on the pool object. [libvirt-users] [Ceph] blockInfo cannot work with network type disk

Hi devs & users, The Telemetry service of OpenStack, project code name Ceilometer, is using libvirt.domain.blockInfo() to get disk's physical, allocation and capacity information [1]. However, when disk is network type with protocol ceph, the blockInfo() always fail with: libvirtError: internal error: missing storage backend for network files using rbd protocol. [2] After reading some libvirt code, I think it might due to blockInfo() always assume disk is file backend [3], and file backend doesn't support network type [4]. I want to know if such limitation is by design? - If yes, then how should I get the network type disk's physical, allocation and capacity info? - If not, is there any plan to implement it? Thanks! [libvirt-users] Ubuntu 14.04 virsh 1.2.2 blockcommit hangs at 100% / command 'blockcommit' doesn't support option --pivot

Hello All, I think I have seen this in previous bugs. Trying to live backup qcow2 images. I am able to virsh snapshot-create-as and virsh domblklist shows correct new source, but I am unable to commit back changes to qcow base. I get the above error. Libvirt at 1.2.2-0ubuntu13.1.17 Qemu is (2.0.0+dfsg-2ubuntu1.22) I tried compiling latest libvirt, but cannot get it to connect to socket on installed binaries Anyone get this working on Ubuntu 14.04?

This is frustrating: $ export LIBVIRT_DEFAULT_URI=qemu+ssh://remotehost/session $ virsh list error: failed to connect to the hypervisor error: no valid connection error: Operation not supported: Connecting to session instance without socket path is not supported by the ssh connection driver Has there been any thought given to making this easier? It seems that having a simple helper script on the remote host that could make the same "use $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR or use $HOME/.confg" decision as libvirtd would be able determine the socket path automatically. Would that be a reasonable solution? I see that right now, even support for qemu://remotehost/system requires that "virsh" knows that path to the remote socket, so having a remote helper that can read the libvirt configuration might simplify things in general. That is, I am envisioning that for .../session connections, virsh would do something like: ssh remotehost libvirt-socket-helper --user And for .../system connections, virsh would do something like: ssh remotehost libvirt-socket-helper --system Rather than: ssh remotehost sh -c 'if nc -q 2>&1 | grep \"requires an argument\" >/dev/null 2>&1; then ARG=-q0;else ARG=;fi;nc $ARG -U /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock' And in either of the above cases, "libvirt-socket-helper" would parse the environment and the libvirtd configuration as necessary and ultimately act like "nc -U /path/to/some/socket". -- Lars Kellogg-Stedman <lars(a)redhat.com> | larsks @ {freenode,twitter,github} Cloud Engineering / OpenStack | http://blog.oddbit.com/
