Hi,all,i am using libvirt to manage my vm,in these days i am testing the libvirt snapshot ,but meet some problem: the snapshot was created from this command: snapshot-create-as win7 --disk-only --diskspec vda,snapshot=external --diskspec hda,snapshot=no but when i tried to revert from the snapshot which created from the above command ,i got error below: virsh # snapshot-revert win7 1338041515 --force error: unsupported configuration: revert to external disk snapshot not supported yet version: virsh # version Compiled against library: libvir 0.9.4 Using library: libvir 0.9.4 Using API: QEMU 0.9.4 Running hypervisor: QEMU 1.0.93

Dear Friends, I would ask you a question ; grateful in advance! I have a program running on a VM guest. Its output is valuable (for VM introspection) so I want to let the host module know about it. I prefer to redirect ' stdio" of a guest into a device at the host (a text file or my device that has the name "mydev" and the driver is written for it). I have the XML definition file for my VM in /etc/libvirt/qemu. I have added the section: <serial type="file"> <source path="/var/log/vm/vml.log"/> <target port="0"/> </serial> into the /devices section. That is I want the stdio to be streamed into the file /var/log/vm/vml.log at the host. Then I run simple textual commands at the guest (ls, pwd and so on). Hi All, I have one netcf question, please help me to resolve it, thanks. I can set a IFF_RUNNING flag to a bridge device which are no interface device attached. What status of a flag on a bridge device in current kernel?(w/o interface), is this a new change in kernel or other component? In netcf, but there is a patch to fix that flag issue, I can't understand it. fix wrong status of bridge devices The IFF_RUNNING flag is not set on a bridge device if there are no devices attached to it. So bridges without attached devices are reported as inactive. Destroying inactive devices leads to an error and thus the device can't be removed (easily) from the operating system. I'm trying to unmount a guest cdrom using libvirt_domain_update_device (via php-libvirt). The guest cdrom is currently mounted via Ceph, via this XML: <disk type='network' device='cdrom'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw'/> <auth username='cdroms'> <secret type='ceph' uuid='XXXX'/> </auth> <source protocol='rbd' name='cdrom/test'/> <target dev='hdc' bus='ide'/> <readonly/> <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='1' target='0' unit='0'/> </disk> In order to unmount it, I'm trying to use this XML: <disk type='file' device='cdrom'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw'/> <target dev='hdc' bus='ide'/> <readonly/> <alias name='ide0-1-0'/> <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='1' target='0' unit='0'/> </disk> However, I'm getting an error from libvirt: 'internal error: invalid secret type 'ceph''. I suspect this is because it's still trying to use the authentication information from the old cdrom definition. How do I convince it to not do this? I've tried specifiying an empty <auth/> block, but that generates it's own error ('missing username for auth')

Hello, I am working on a script to automatically create live snapshots of running VMs using qemu-kvm 1.4.0 and libvirt 1.0.2. If a VM has multiple disks, I'd like to back them up individually with separate calls to snapshot-create-as, so I can more easily manage the disk images. The code I have now is essentially as follows: virsh snapshot-create-as --domain "vmname" --name "snapshotname" --description "snapshot description" --disk-only --atomic --no-metadata --diskspec "vda" I run this command for each block device (e.g vda, vdb, etc). However, after running the above command (to only backup vda), I see that a snapshot has also been created for vdb. I tried running it with --print-xml, which gives this output: <domainsnapshot> <name>05-22-14_17-09-25</name> <description>05-22-14_17-09-25</description> <disks> <disk name='vda'/> </disks> </domainsnapshot> What am I doing wrong - how can I tell snapshot-create-as to create an external snapshot for a specific block device only (not all block devices)? Hello. I have a question about libvirt remote access. I read carefully how to set up TLS authorization guide and I have done all the steps. Everything works, but for my virtualization infrastructure I need more flexibility. How can I configure a single host to trust more than one certificate authority. Lets say, for example, that I have 10 virtualization hosts and each of them has certificates signed by the same CA (lets say CA1) and they trust each other. But I have a client which does not have a client certificate signed by CA1, but has a certificate signed by CA2. I do not want my virtualization hosts to trust the CA2 except for just one of them. I want to provide this client with authorized access to one of my hosts. So this specific host must trust CA1 and CA2 as well, but in the '/etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf' file I can point the certificate of only one CA. How can I set up such a configuration ? The same question is valid for the client. How can I configure a client to trust CA1 and CA2 ?

I'm trying to accomplish what I had hoped would be a fairly simple filtering of traffic to my VMs, but I'm hitting a snag. The VMs are allowing traffic when I wouldn't expect them to. I can run apt-get update on the VM, I can ping the VM from other nodes in my network, etc. It's basically wide-open. Hello I have a virtual server with 3 existing VMs running on it without issue. The host has 4 NICs installed; em1 for the host, em2 and em3 already in use by other VMs. I would like to dedicate em4 to my new VM however when I create the bridge like I did for the others I do not get a vnet3 device show up in the list as shown below. I tried using the GUI and virsh to create the bridge. Hello, I have VM attached to bridge br0. VM can see the network (ping works) when the bridge has ethernet interfaces. But when I create bond or team device and attach it to a bridge instead of eth interface, VM does not ping anymore. Any ideas why? Thanks, Nerijus

[libvirt-users] - defining routing between guests

Hi, On my host I have few lxc containers. Containers are split between let say three virtual networks. My goal is to define custom routing between networks. I can do that using for example iptables. Is it possible to do that only in libvirt (in network/domains/network filters configuration only)? I did some attempts with network filters, but it doesn't work. I have managed to limit only inbound/outbound traffic. I have found some examples that use libvirt hooks, but I would like to avoid that. I will be grateful for help and some examples. Greetings, This is my first stab at this mailing list. Forgive me if I am over/under verbose. We have been running KVM for a while now and love it. Recently I have noticed a weird anomaly that is getting on my nerves. When I clone (GUI or virt-clone from CLI) both* virt-manager* and *virsh* enquiries get extremely sluggish. Using top I cannot see any resource issues. No I/O wait, the load average show noting outside of the normal, nothing taking CPU or Memory. I have notice that in a couple of the instances the libvirtd daemon was stopped. We have more than twenty (20 +) VM's running - they all seem fine. The metal server is a beast of an 820 with 192GB of RAM and 64 CPU's. The load average rarely creeps above 2 or 3. Do not think it is a resource issue. I can write a test file to the filesystem/volume where the images live at over 350MB/s. The sluggishness disappears after a reboot. If I clone a VM ... back again ... Any ideas? Hi, I am trying to mount /dev/tty5 from host as /dev/tty1 inside LXC container, but libvirt currently supports only 1-to-1 mapping: <hostdev mode='capabilities' type='misc'> <source> <char>/dev/tty5</char> </source> </hostdev> What do you thing about extending this by adding target parameter? It is easy to archive manually using mknod (mknod /dev/tty1 c 4 5), but still I think it would be nice to add this feature to the libvirt. Is it possible to configure 2 virtual nics in the same ip range ? [libvirt-users] Cloning of Running Domain

Hello, I have a running transient domain with a storage volume that utilizes a backing file (both QCOW2 format). I'd like to capture the disk and memory state of the domain preferably to external file(s) (which I understand is an 'external checkpoint'), so that other independent domains can be instantiated and effectively "resumed" from this point-in-time profile. My network configuration is such that domains are network-isolated at L2, so resolving MAC/IP address and similar conflicts within the guest are not of concern. Is it possible to accomplish this? I've looked at both the snapshot/checkpoint and migration APIs and it appears as though the pieces are there, but am having difficulty defining the proper workflow. For instance, an external online checkpoint can be created using virDomainSnapshotCreateXML, but is it possible to disassociate the snapshot from the source domain (effectively returning it to its pre-snapshot state) and at a later time instantiate new domains using the the disk/memory data from the snapshot files? Any recommendations, insight, or guidance is appreciated. Thanks, -Thomas

Hi, I have installed a centos65_guest_1 system on a centos65 host with virt-manager. By default libvirt has a default network in NAT mode. At centos65_guest_1 when pinging to google it works. But I would like to use a routed mode for production enviroment with some services online, like http, ftp, ssh, etc. I have created the virtual network 192.168.100.0/24 with routed mode, and I have installed another guest system, centos65_guest_2, that is using this network. The problem is that I can't ping to the outside world. ping to 192.168.100.1 is working Why is not working? Any suggestion? Thank you
