[libvirt-users] Error in snapshot create in libvirt 1.1.4

Hi list, i currently have the following issue: I did a test upgrade to libvirt 1.1.4 and now i cannot create new snapshots which can be reverted. Following Situation: Virtualization: kvm Disktype: qcow2 qemu XML: <cpu mode='host-passthrough'> </cpu> Creating of snapshot: virsh snapshot-create-as <guest> <name> <description> --atomic Now i craete a snapshot and as soon as i revert i get the following error: error : virCPUDefParseXML:367 : XML error: Non-empty feature list specified without CPU model I think the error is inside the snapshot xml (virsh snapshot-dumpxml): <cpu mode='host-passthrough'> <feature policy='require' name='pdpe1gb'/> <feature policy='require' name='osxsave'/> <feature policy='require' name='dca'/> <feature policy='require' name='pcid'/> <feature policy='require' name='pdcm'/> <feature policy='require' name='xtpr'/> <feature policy='require' name='tm2'/> <feature policy='require' name='est'/> <feature policy='require' name='smx'/> <feature policy='require' name='vmx'/> <feature policy='require' name='ds_cpl'/> <feature policy='require' name='monitor'/> <feature policy='require' name='dtes64'/> <feature policy='require' name='pbe'/> <feature policy='require' name='tm'/> <feature policy='require' name='ht'/> <feature policy='require' name='ss'/> <feature policy='require' name='acpi'/> <feature policy='require' name='ds'/> <feature policy='require' name='vme'/> </cpu> In older libvirt versions < 1.0.0 the xml looks the following way (virsh snapshot-dumpxml): <cpu mode='host-passthrough' match='minimum'> <model>SandyBridge</model> <vendor>Intel</vendor> <feature policy='require' name='pdpe1gb'/> <feature policy='require' name='osxsave'/> <feature policy='require' name='dca'/> <feature policy='require' name='pcid'/> <feature policy='require' name='pdcm'/> <feature policy='require' name='xtpr'/> <feature policy='require' name='tm2'/> <feature policy='require' name='est'/> <feature policy='require' name='smx'/> <feature policy='require' name='vmx'/> <feature policy='require' name='ds_cpl'/> <feature policy='require' name='monitor'/> <feature policy='require' name='dtes64'/> <feature policy='require' name='pbe'/> <feature policy='require' name='tm'/> <feature policy='require' name='ht'/> <feature policy='require' name='ss'/> <feature policy='require' name='acpi'/> <feature policy='require' name='ds'/> <feature policy='require' name='vme'/> </cpu> So for what ever reason the model and vendor tag are not copied inside the snapshot metadata xml when using cpu mode cpu-passthrough. virsh dumpxml with --update-cpu flag reports the correct cpu node with model and vendor tags. After a stop of libvirtd and loooking inside the xml file the cpu tag looks the following: <cpu mode='host-passthrough' match='minimum'> <model>SandyBridge</model> <vendor>Intel</vendor> <feature policy='require' name='pdpe1gb'/> <feature policy='require' name='osxsave'/> <feature policy='require' name='dca'/> <feature policy='require' name='pcid'/> <feature policy='require' name='pdcm'/> <feature policy='require' name='xtpr'/> <feature policy='require' name='tm2'/> <feature policy='require' name='est'/> <feature policy='require' name='smx'/> <feature policy='require' name='vmx'/> <feature policy='require' name='ds_cpl'/> <feature policy='require' name='monitor'/> <feature policy='require' name='dtes64'/> <feature policy='require' name='pbe'/> <feature policy='require' name='tm'/> <feature policy='require' name='ht'/> <feature policy='require' name='ss'/> <feature policy='require' name='acpi'/> <feature policy='require' name='ds'/> <feature policy='require' name='vme'/> </cpu> After the start of libvirtd virsh reports the cpu tag with missing vendor and model. [libvirt-users] virt-install not spawning VM

Hello, In trying girt-install with below parameters I get the following error, -bash: virt-install --connect qemu:///system --name vm1 --ram 2048 --vcpus: No such file or directory What am I doing wrong? [libvirt-users] Calling 'virsh' from within a hook script - avoid deadlock?

I'm trying to create a hook that attaches several virtio-scsi disks to a starting vm, and it seems like the hook enters a deadlock while attempting to do so. Is there any workaround around this? Any better way, forking virsh execution somehow? Could anyone explain why this is creating a deadlock in the first place? Isn't libvirt multithreaded? Thanks for the help! Hi there! I'm building libvirt-1.1.4 with the fallowing configuration. I had to modify the spec file: 1. Comment out requirements: xhtml1, scrub, shadow-utils 2. Added defines: %define _without_selinux 1 %define _without_hal 1 %define _without_libnl 1 %define _without_macvtap 1 %define _without_storage_fs 1 %define _without_network 1 %define _without_sasl 1 %define _without_qemu 1 %define _without_storage_lvm 1 %define _without_storage_iscsi 1 %define _without_storage_disk 1 %define _without_storage_mpath 1 %define _without_nwfilter 1 %define _without_libssh2 1 %define _without_hyperv 1 %define _without_phyp 1 %define dist tizen And the %check section fails. topology : two guest connected to physical LAN (vlan 620 and vlan 621) on host : 1) creating bridge br0 2) creating bridge for guest 1 and guest 2 - to separate traffic 3) virtual network1 : I have default NAT 192.168.122.x DHCP feeding IP to eth1 4) virtual network2 : I want to use 192.168.0.0 for eth0 my question is what would be my virtual network2 looks like : following is default xml : <network> <name>default</name> <uuid>8778244b-1a0c-c15f-c348-26462a07a639</uuid> <forward mode='nat'/> <bridge name='virbr0' stp='on' delay='0' /> <mac address='52:54:00:3E:19:B3'/> <ip address='192.168.122.1' netmask='255.255.255.0'> <dhcp> <range start='192.168.122.2' end='192.168.122.254' /> </dhcp> </ip> </network> in virtmanager I assign this default to NIC1 and gets IP in range 192.168.122.x I want to define another network and assign to NIC2 so I can get IP in range 192.168.0.x my guest are on interface em2.620, em2.621 etc thanks

[libvirt-users] Using resource pools (in vmware vcenter) with libvirt

Hi I am evaluating use of libvirt to manage a cluster of ESXi servers. We plan to use "resource pool" concept of vcenter/vmware to easily scale-up or scale-down the cluster of ESXi servers >From vmware doc "Resource pools are partitions of computing and memory resources from a single host or a cluster" Since VM can be designated to hosts, clusters or "resource pool".. assigning VM to resource pool allows a simple way to manage scale-up / scale-down operations. This is because one doesn't need to know identity of ESXi server (from cluster of servers) to assign/place a VM.. one can just refer to resource pool. >From reading the doc of libvirt, it seems that libvirt always requires identity of ESXi servers in all the (vcenter) API calls. Is my understanding correct? If so, does libvirt have a similar concept/notion so that VM life-cycle can be managed without knowing identity of underlying server? with regards Ashutosh
