Hi,all,i am using libvirt to manage my vm,in these days i am testing the libvirt snapshot ,but meet some problem: the snapshot was created from this command: snapshot-create-as win7 --disk-only --diskspec vda,snapshot=external --diskspec hda,snapshot=no but when i tried to revert from the snapshot which created from the above command ,i got error below: virsh # snapshot-revert win7 1338041515 --force error: unsupported configuration: revert to external disk snapshot not supported yet version: virsh # version Compiled against library: libvir 0.9.4 Using library: libvir 0.9.4 Using API: QEMU 0.9.4 Running hypervisor: QEMU 1.0.93

[libvirt-users] libvirt, lvm thin provisioning

I know that lvm supports thin provisioning, and I think I have a pretty good grasp on how that works. Does libvirt support lvm thin provisioning and thin snapshots? I know that in order to set up lvm thin provisioning by hand, I have to create a thin-provisioning pool within the volume group, and then thin-provisioned logical volumes and thin-provisioned snapshots can be created within that thin-provision pool. I also know that it's possible to have more than one thin-provisioning pool within the same volume group, which tells me that in order to properly set up any lvm-aware application to use thin-provisioning, I may need to inform it which thin-provisioning pool it should base LVs and snapshots from. When I look at the example here: http://libvirt.org/storage.html#StorageBackendLogical I don't see anything particular which tells me it supports building off a thin-provisioning pool if I specify such by name. Checking here: http://libvirt.org/formatstorage.html#StoragePool I again don't see anything specific about logical thick vs thin provisioning. I would expect to see *something*, as there are performance consequences when making such choices, so I'm again not sure libvirt recognizes a difference. So is this something that libvirt can do? And is there good documentation somewhere on the subject?

Unfortunately evil spammers have managed to defeat all the anti-spam measures we've tried with the wiki. So it is with regret that we have had to disable new wiki account self-registration. We do still welcome contributions from anyone interested in adding wiki content. We just ask that you send a mail to the main devel mailing list (libvir-list(a)redhat.com) to request an account be created for you by the wiki admin. Meanwhile we're hoping to migrate the wiki to new hosting service where we'll be able to deploy newer wiki software and thus hopefully better anti-spam measures. When this happens we'll look at re-enabling self-registration of accounts. Hi All, Will some one explain how is this tls libvirt server is implemented. For my testing purpose I need to implement the similar TLS server in Java or Python and this server is capable to receive all libvirt calls like getCapabilities, hostname etc and return response as I'm configured. Basically I need to simulate the libvirt TLS server. I tried creating many TLS server but none of the my TLS server implemenation is capable to do proper handshake with python libvirt client and do successful calls. Hello, I've got a situation where I have a couple of vm's running at 300+% cpu on the hypervisor: 9893 qemu 20 0 13.0g 8.2g 4256 S 328.0 4.3 59793:17 qemu-kvm Yet the load within the vm is in the regions of: 1.00, 1.02, 0.98 Everything is reporting OK on both the hypervisor & guest, guest is a qcow2 image on local storage. If anyone could point me in the right direction to start debugging this I'd be grateful. Hello, I am not able to see vrbr0 in my box. Can some one help me with this ? . I am trying KVM+libvirt and planing to use Routed mode. I hope this virbr0 must be up for using this . I can give an strace too. Please help, I can't install Scientific Linux 6.3 with virt-manager because the key tab switches between kvm windows. I urgently need tab to go on in install process. see screenshot: http://aiai.de/foren/scientificLinux_tab.png Even in fullscreen mode tab changes to kvm window and not to button "continue" for installation process. please help, I want to install scientific linux as kvm guest. Hi All, I am trying to evaluate whether centos-4.8 system container work on Fedora-19 machine or not. Host machine : Fedora 19 Guest (LXC container) : CentOS4 .8 For creation of of container i followed following steps, 1. Installed libvirt packages on fedora19 2. For installation of rootfs using yum, I have created the LOCAL YUM REPO using CentOS-4.8 ISO files 3. Created rootfs using yum 4. Made changes in container xml file required for system container 5 .Define container using container xml file Whenever I start system container it get started successfully but when I am trying to access it using console then It show errors regarding /etc/fstab files and filesystem corruption. I am not able to access the container. hi, i am using libvirt-1.1.3 in eucalyptus 2.0.3. When starting the Vm i am facing the following error: i got these error from the nc.log: [EUCAERROR ] ERROR: key injection / tune2fs command failed [EUCAERROR ] libvirt: internal error: client socket is closed (code=1) [EUCAFATAL ] hypervisor failed to start domain i checked in libvirtd.log its not showing any error. [libvirt-users] libvirt-sandbox on Ubuntu with SELinux

I'm attempting to build/use libvirt-sandbox on Ubuntu 12.xx. Although I'm still working through dependency issues (including the need for libvirt >= 1.0.2 which is not packaged for ubuntu 12.xx) to build the sandbox code, I have a forward looking question. It appears libvirt-bin for Ubuntu likes apparmor as does most Ubuntu based packages using a LSM impl. However, as I understand libvirt-sandbox is integrated with SELinux to provide security isolation of containers... My question becomes -- *should* libvirt-sandbox work on Ubuntu assuming I use the ubuntu libvirt-bin package and replace apparmor with selinux? Or am I flat out walking into quicksand on Ubuntu here? Without the security aspect of libvirt-sandbox, I wonder if its viable on ubuntu for those looking to mitigate container security? Thanks

Hi, i am using eucalyptus -2.0.3 and libvirt 1.1.3 for xen -4.2.1. i found this error when starting the Vm via euca2ools(euca-run-instances) the error details are as follows: *libvirt: internal error: client socket is closed (code=1) * *hypervisor failed to start domain* But from virsh i checked everything is working fine. I dont know why the socket is getting closed when accessing from eucalyptus. GIve some suggestions to solve this error. Regards, cooldharma06.

Hello, When I want to install libvirt-0.10.0 from source, I get this error at the configure stage checking for libdevmapper.h... no configure: error: You must install device-mapper-devel/libdevmapper >= 1.0.0 to compile libvirt However the package is installed on my system # yum list device-mapper-libs.x86_64 Installed Packages device-mapper-libs.x86_64 1.02.74-10.el6 @base/$releasever What is the problem then? Hi, I'm using LVM based storage pools and I'm wondering if there is a way to specify several source-dev on the command line for creating a volume group spread over several devices : one device /dev/sdc1 is ok: * virsh pool-define-as --name lvmpool --type logical --source-dev /dev/sdc1 --source-name vg --target /dev/vg I would like something like (but sadly doesn't work): ? virsh pool-define-as --name lvmpool --type logical --source-dev /dev/sdc1 --source-dev /dev/sdb1 --source-name vg --target /dev/vg ? Hello, I'm trying to migrate a working qemu command line configuration to libvirt. The part I'm currently failing on is: $ qemu-system-x86_64 -M Q35 ... -device vfio-pci,host=05:00.0,bus=pcie.0 The right way to translate this into libvirt XML seems to be using <hostdev>, but I seem to be unable to plug it into the pcie-root port This is how the interesting part looks like when I let "virsh edit" generate an <address> <controller type='pci' index='0' model='pcie-root'/> <controller type='pci' index='1' model='dmi-to-pci-bridge'> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x02' function='0x0'/> </controller> <controller type='pci' index='2' model='pci-bridge'> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x01' slot='0x01' function='0x0'/> </controller> [...] <hostdev mode='subsystem' type='pci' managed='yes'> <driver name='vfio'/> <source> <address domain='0x0000' bus='0x03' slot='0x00' function='0x0'/> </source> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x02' slot='0x06' function='0x0'/> </hostdev> [...] To my understanding, this will plug the host device into the pci-bridge controller. The guest OS doesn't boot with this and resets right after bios. Manually setting <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x1E' function='0x0'/> cause XML validation failure. Is there any way in libvirt XML to plug a host's PCI-E device directly into the pcie-root port, like it works on qemu command line? I'm aware I could use something like <qemu:commandline> <qemu:arg value='-device'/> <qemu:arg value='vfio-pci,host=05:00.0,bus=pcie.0'/> </qemu:commandline> but I insist on running the VM as non-root, and if I got that right I need to configure at least one vfio device (or memory locking) in order for libvirt to set a proper RLIMIT_MEMLOCK value. You can use channel to get something close, like: <channel type='pty'> <target type='virtio' name='my.port.2'/> </channel> However it won't appear as ttyS0 in the guest so it might not fit your usecase. Recent qemu has a PCI serial device which should allow for more than 4 serial ports, but support isn't wired up in libvirt yet. - Cole

Hi there. I have configured kvm domain (rhel6.4) with ethernet bridged over macvtap, and found no filtration applied except mac. 'virsh' just silently ignoring attributes 'filterref' and 'ip address' in different formats. No error on validate stage.
