[libvirt-users] libvirtd may need to be started: Permission denied

Hi, I try to configure libvirtd to use qemu+tcp, but after doing so, I can't use virsh or programs with libvirt API. I type "virsh -c qemu:///system", then error: unable to connect to '/var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock', libvirtd may need to be started: Permission deniederror: failed to connect to the hypervisor I could add "sudo" to "virsh -c qemu:///system", running virsh with "qemu:///system" normally, but it's not suitable for my requests. Also I try to restart or reinstall libvirt-bin in Ubuntu, also failed. Could you give me some idea? Thanks a lot! RegardsCorey

[libvirt-users] Remote Shutdown of Server 2008

Good afternoon, I have a VM of Microsoft Server 2008 SP1. I am using virsh commands to power it on/off. I can power on/off when the admin is logged in to the Server VM, and when there are no users logged in, but when the admin locks the screen, I cannot seem to power it off. The virsh command states that the domain is being shutdown, but it in fact does not. I looked at some registry settings for the VM (server 2008) and see if I can pinpoint an entry I need to set, but had no luck. Any ideas? Thank you for your support. - Frank G.

[libvirt-users] [libvirt] virDomainMemoryStats call

Hi, Is the array mstats returned by virDomainMemoryStats call cummulative or snapshot of the counter at that particular time ? I was of the opinion that is cummulative like the /proc counters but this counter seems to go backwards ie next snapshot value is less than the current one which makes me think these are snapshot values . I'm using RHEL 6.3 libvirt version 0.9.10. Regards, Navin

Hi, I had a VM running on c3rh2 under 'vmc' user: [vmc@c3rh2 .ssh]$ virsh list --all Id Name State ---------------------------------------------------- 1 vs2relocate_nonRoot running After the virsh migration command, "virsh migrate --live --unsafe vs2relocate_nonRoot qemu+ssh://vmc@c3rh1.kirkland.ibm.com/session", this VM successfully got migrated to the target host c3rh1. However, it was not visible to 'vmc' user but 'root'. [vmc@c3rh1 .ssh]$ virsh list --all Id Name State ---------------------------------------------------- [vmc@c3rh1 .ssh]$ sudo virsh list --all Id Name State ---------------------------------------------------- 1 vs2relocate_nonRoot running * The libvirt version is libvirt-0.9.10-21.el6_3.1.x86_64 on both hosts. [libvirt-users] How the libvirtd connect to qemud in source codes?

Hi, I meet a question when reading the libvirt source codes. Could you help me? Coz I plan to link libvirt to a Android Emulator based on QEMU, knowing how the libvirtd connect to qemud is important. I trace the code as following: libvirtd.c contains all the initilization of libvirt daemon, then calling function named qemuRegister to qemu_driver.c which contains three methods:int qemuRegister(void) { virRegisterDriver(&qemuDriver); virRegisterStateDriver(&qemuStateDriver); virNWFilterRegisterCallbackDriver(&qemuCallbackDriver); return 0; } In qemuDriver, I find a function --qemudOpen which, I guess, contains the method what I want. But I failed to find right messages. Could you please give me some tips? I guess there has got to contain related interfaces to connect between libvirt and qemu. Thanks a lot!

[libvirt-users] Bug in VNC QEMU?

Hi all! Recently I found some problems after upgrading one of our virtual machines from ubuntu 10.10. to later releases. Root problem is inactive VNC terminal after booting grub. It happens because of using framebuffer at boot process. To fix this problem you should change at /etc/default/grub: GRUB_TERMINAL=console And run # update-grub # reboot This fixes problem. But I think there should be some fix to use fb in vnc without problems. I have configured the kvm and edit the xml as below, however there are an error when I want to run the guest. [libvirt-users] Authentication via SASL and LDAP?

Hello, I've recently configured a new virtual machine host running Ubuntu 12.04 server with libvirt and KVM. I am configuring WebVirtMgr ( https://github.com/retspen/webvirtmgr/ ) for users to manage machines via a web interface. This requires access to the host using qemu+tcp, which I have configured as follows: /etc/default/libvirt-bin: start_libvirtd="yes" libvirtd_opts="-d -l" /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf: listen_tls = 0 listen_tcp = 1 unix_sock_group = "libvirtd" unix_sock_rw_perms = "0770" auth_unix_ro = "none" auth_unix_rw = "none" auth_tcp = "sasl" The libvirt documentation ( http://libvirt.org/auth.html ) does not specify if it is possible to use SASL with a different authentication method other than DIGEST-MD5. I would like to authenticate users via LDAP - is this possible? I configured LDAP authentication via SASL as follows: /etc/sasl2/libvirt.conf pwcheck_method: saslauthd mech_list: PLAIN LOGIN log_level: 5 saslauthd_path: /var/run/saslauthd/mux auxprop_plugin: ldap /etc/saslauthd.conf ldap_servers: ldap://ldap_ip_addr:389/ ldap_search_base: ou=People,dc=x-es,dc=com ldap_auth_method: none ldap_filter: uid=%u ldap_version: 3 /etc/default/saslauthd START=yes DESC="SASL Authentication Daemon" NAME="saslauthd" MECHANISMS="ldap" MECH_OPTIONS="" THREADS=5 OPTIONS="-O /etc/saslauthd.conf -c -m /var/run/saslauthd -r" Testing the configuration works: # testsaslauthd -u myuser -p mypass 0: OK "Success." However, if I attempt to connect over the libvirt TCP connection I am denied: virsh -c qemu+tcp://my_vm_host/system nodeinfo error: authentication failed: Failed to start SASL negotiation: -4 (SASL(-4): no mechanism available: ) error: failed to connect to the hypervisor Do you know what is incorrect in my libvirt config, or is it not possible to authenticate libvirt via SASL+LDAP? [libvirt-users] Opteron_G4 CPU under libvirt 0.9.12

Hi, I´m using libvirt version 0.9.12 under Debian Squeeze with and AMD Opteron 4280. Executing the virsh capabilities command only show me the following flags: <cpu> <arch>x86_64</arch> <model>Opteron_G4</model> <vendor>AMD</vendor> <topology sockets='1' cores='8' threads='2'/> <feature name='nodeid_msr'/> <feature name='wdt'/> <feature name='skinit'/> <feature name='ibs'/> <feature name='osvw'/> <feature name='cr8legacy'/> <feature name='extapic'/> <feature name='cmp_legacy'/> <feature name='fxsr_opt'/> <feature name='mmxext'/> <feature name='osxsave'/> <feature name='monitor'/> <feature name='ht'/> <feature name='vme'/> </cpu> Should not there be more flags supported by the CPU, for example the SVM-Flag for virtualization because executing cat /proc/cpuinfo gives me quite a lot of more flags and also the SVM Flag.
