[libvirt-users] How to proceed after Libvirt compilation? [Problem]

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10. At first I installed Libvirt from repositories. Due to problems I removed it and then I installed from sources this way: # ./configure --prefix=$HOME/usr # make # make install # ldconfig The installation gone well. I added the users to libvirtd and rebooted. When I type virsh I receive from system a message saying virsh is not installed and instructing to install from repository. Someone know what should I do or where I can find it? [libvirt-users] virt-manager can't start because of a dbus problem

Hi, Since today I can't start virt-manager anymore :-( Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-yhDz4m8loi By the way the same message as I get from qdbus. There are no files called /tmp/dbus* on my system but some dbus applications are running: linux-dev:~# ps ax | grep dbus 1774 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --system 2436 ? S 0:00 dbus-launch --autolaunch 1996d3ce005bf1ed73cca8164d21a0b5 --binary-syntax --close-stderr 2437 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 5 --print-address 7 --session The error-message-box containing: most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. [libvirt-users] Windows guest eats as many CPU as available

Hello, I run Debian on my Laptop Lenovo X60s (with VT). I've created a Windows-XP as well as a Windows-Vista guest on it. Both, XP as well as Vista, eats as many CPU as available. Therefore the CPU always has high load and will never reduce cpu-frequenz or ventilator. Did this works as designed or should I modify something? Thanks in advance Matthias -- Don't Panic

[libvirt-users] The VM as a way of saving our digital heritage

Some of the discussion items I have seen about VM's failing under upgrades brings up a worrisome point, for me at least. I look at a VM as a 'forever machine'. A way in which I can set up an environment with any old OS and software and be able to boot and interact with it now, or next year or 100 years from now. It is the answer to 'how do we guarantee access to our digitized cultural heritage?' That puts a great burden on the team doing this work. It means you have to guarantee that an archivist in 2110 can take a VM created today and boot it up and run it on their hyper-quantum-bio computer (the one that you could mistake for a real penguin) under Linux version 15.4.32... and still be able to run a Mathematica file from 2005. I don't know about the rest of you, but I think this is a *very* important part of what should be the spec for VM handling, perhaps one of *the* most important ones.

Hi, I want to migrate from vmware to KVM. Therefore I have installed debian stable (lenny) and create two virtual machines (KVM). Both (XP as well as Vista) running fine. After upgrading to debian testing (sqeeze) both XP-guest as well as Vista-guest didn't start anymore. Both are failing during preparation, probably because of a network-problem. I was wondering if there is any way from either the virsh CLI or the libvirt API (preferably virsh) to get the amount of disk space to get the amount of disk space each guest has been assigned??
