How to monitor domains in regards steal time and other important metrics (VIR_DOMAIN_STATS_VCPU) ?

Hey libvirt-users, first allow me to give a little background. We monitor performance metrics of OpenStack Nova VMs using libvirt as hypervisor. We used to run the libvirt prometheus exporter written by zhangjianweibj [1]. This exporter, compared to the one from kumina / tinkoff ([2]) makes use of the DigitalOcean go-libvirt [3], but that should not make much of a difference for my questions. Since the development of that exporter seems to have stalled and we wanted to rework and contribute new features to it, we created a fork [4]. After working trough the various ideas we had and applying them to the code, we proposed the prometheus-community to adopt the exporter [5] to ensure it is maintained and to serve as a reference exporter even. Now to my actual question ... Libvirt exposes per VCPU stats for domains via [6]. I'd like to be able to export those via the exporter. One important metric to me would be things like the steal time (vcpu.<num>.delay), to determine is domains are starting to get cut short or even starve on cpu time. Apparently those metrics are / cannot be expose anymore since the switch to CGroupsV2? Reading [7] or [8] others seem to have run into this. Is this actually still the case, even for more recent kernels? If so, I am wondering if there is an issue being tracked to implement this functionality? How is the steal time reported to the guest if the hypervisor is unable to export this info? Then there are other approaches like vmtop by Digital Ocean [9], which does use info and metrics available via /proc to determine steal time and other vcpu based metrics. So it seems the required data is somewhat available from the kernel? Last but not least I'd like your opinion on what other key metrics are important to monitoring on hypervisors and their guests? Host cpu model from "virsh capabilities" command not matching host physical model

The host cpu here is intel i5 1135g7 (this is a laptop). Using libvirt 9.0.0 Using "virsh capabilities" command, the //host/cpu/model part reads Broadwell-noTSX-IBRS But there are also the Skylake cpus available, which are newer than broadwell, and thus should better match an intel core 11th generation Why is libvirt outputting an "older processor"?

Libvirt permissions using facl instead of groups

Is there a way to use facl to specifically grant permission to all the files/dirs that libvirt needs instead of using groups? I am automating the install of libvirt and would like to be able to use it without sudo or having to logout/login. I have done a similar thing on a docker install using setfacl but was wondering if someone can point me to the specific kvm/libvirt places I need to grant and the privileges. Issue with egl-headless on headless server and EGL context not found error

Hi, I have a headless server (without a window server running) and I’m trying to create a VM with Intel GVT-g support, where the mediated GPU device is the only graphics device presented to the guest. Status of Microsoft Hyper-V driver

Hi, This is my first post to this forum, hello everyone! I come here with zero experience with libvirt which I have just started learning [1] and my current interest is about the Hyper-V support and the driver [2] status. Could anyone point me where to look in order to learn about the currently available Hyper-V capabilities in libvirt? Are there any libvirt API usage examples targeting Hyper-V? The table at the bottom of the driver page [2] lists Windows Server 2012, 2016 and 2019 only. What Windows Server 2022, is this just an omission in the docs or it specifically is not supported? assigning VM to a VLAN on a trunk bridge that exists on LACP bond - how to

Dear list, I am trying to create an access port on a VM to connect to VLAN (20 in my case). I am pretty sure my router and switch are setup correctly. I can assign my host machine (hypervisor) an IP address on either VLAN1 or VLAN20 by changing the configuration; in other words, it is connected to the switch via a trunk port. VM1 (also Debian 12) is connected to bridge0, which is designed as a trunk bridge, and CAN get an IP address in the 192.168.1.0/24 network (aka VLAN1), but CANNOT get an IP address in the 192.168.20.0/24 network 9aka VLAN20). VMs network interface is named as enp1s0 and I tried creating an interface named enp1s0.20 in its own /etc/network/interfaces file without any change in behavior. It just does not connect to VLAN20, no matter what I tried. What am I missing? I am very thankful for the pointers, and will be happy to provide further information, try recommended settings and report back. Best!

I was able to achieve what I wanted to do by the /etc/network/interfaces file posted below on the host. KVM/QEMU does not accept the bridge notation with dots in it, such as bridge0.20. Instead, one needs to create a separate vlan definition and a bridge on top of that vlan. This would create an access port for the VMs that use that bridge. What I was trying to do was to create a trunk port on a bridge, and by the static IP chosen for VMs, let each VM claim their VLANs. In this working version, the access ports claim the VLAN that the VM would belong to instead. I hope that this would help people avoid the suffering I endured during the last week to achieve this, lol! However, I need to document a list of available interfaces since the interface name "int188" needs to be entered in a text area in virt-manager. The dialog in virt-manager also has a list box that is pre-filled with "Virtual Network 'default'", "Bridge Device..." and "Macvtap device...", and the text area for the bridge device name shows up once "Bridge device" is selected. Can I configure somewhere (may it be in libvirt, may it be in virt-manager) a list of network interfaces, so that this list box has like "Bridge Device int181", "Bridge Device int188" etc in addition to the three entries that are already present, to give my users a hint about which interfaces might be available? You can also point me towards documentation if I might have missed something. Can't connect to libvirt

Hi folks!
