This function is also affected by getline conversion. But this didn't result in a regression in general, because the difference whould only affect the behavior of the function when the line in /proc/vz/vestat for the given vpsid wasn't found. [libvirt] [PATCH] openvz: Handle getline failures in openvzReadConfigParam properly

The regression fix in 3aab7f2d6b068f0 altered the error handling. getline returns -1 on failure to read a line (including EOF). The original openvzReadConfigParam function using openvz_readline only treated EOF as not-found. The current getline version treats all getline failures as not-found. [libvirt] ssh from host to guest on default network

Hello, I am looking for an reliable, scriptable method to 1) install a kvm guest using the default network and 2) ssh from the host to the guest to perform machine maintenance (e.g. yum update). Ideally, this would be done by providing a host name for the guest during install (e.g. virt-install --name <myname> ...), and then by ssh'ing to the machine using the provided hostname (e.g. ssh <myname>) and a username/password or preconfigured certificate. The trouble I am having is with ssh'ing from the host to guest machine. 1. I can't (easily) use the guest hostname, as the host isn't automatically configured to resolve guest names. 2. I can't (easily) use the guest IP address (e.g. read from /var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/default.leases), as the IP addresses are dynamic and can change when the guest is reinstalled (which I am doing a fair amount, at least in testing). 3. I can't (easily) assign the guest a static IP address, as the default network configuration assumes all IP addresses in the range can be dynamically allocated, and thus a statically assigned IP might conflict. I can work around these issues in a variety of unfortunate ways. But I wonder if there is something elegant I am missing. If not, this would be a very nice feature for the future.... Thanks, Kay

This patch adds save/restore functionality to the libxl driver. Assume you saved a vm with: # virsh save domU foo.img If you restore the save image, destroy the vm and restore it again, a segfault occurs: # virsh restore foo.img # virsh destroy domU # virsh restore foo.img # segfault If you restart libvirt between the restores no segfault occurs: # virsh restore foo.img # virsh destroy domU # restart libvirt # virsh restore foo.img According to a gdb backtrace a memcpy from the function xc_domain_restore is causing the segfault. Then I saved a vm with the xl tool (which also uses the libxenlight interface) and restored it twice. No segfault occured. So I figured something must went wrong in libvirt. However I was unable to identify the responsible part of code. Now I am hoping that a review will possibly solve this issue. An update of https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2011-May/msg00657.html Currently when libvirt has a serious error doing I/O and/or parsing of the QEMU monitor, it will kill off the guest. Application developers have expressed a desire for more graceful handling of this scenario. In particular to allow the guest OS to continue to run, without any further monitor interactons, and then kill/restart it at a time which is convenient to the guest admin/apps. New in this posting: - Change the name of the event to 'CONTROL_ERROR' and use the generic callback, instead of passing a type field - Add python dispatch code - Add 3rd patch to improve qemu monitor error reporting

In the case that the IP address learning thread was instantiating filters while an update happened, the previous order lead to a deadlock. Hi, I tried to connect xen using latest libvirt When I connected to xend, "virsh list --all" gave me the right output. But when I connected to libxl, the virsh didn't show anything only as follows Id Name State ---------------------------------- I think at least Domain-0 should show up. Did I miss some point or something broken with the libxl_driver?

[libvirt] [PATCH 0/3] Add device disk attach/detach support to libxl driver

This patch series adds the infrastructure to support attaching and detaching of devices to the libxl driver. Currently only disk devices are supported. The first patch refactors some functions that are needed to create the appropriate datastructures for the libxenlight interface. The second patch fixes the handling of vm def's on cleanup. The last patch finally adds the device attach/detach code and follows qemu's implementation. [libvirt] [PATCH] esx: Fix regression in absolute file name handling

Before commit 145d6cb05c45f4 (in August 2010) absolute file names in VMX and domain XML configs were handled correctly. But this got lost during the refactoring. The test cases didn't highlight this problem because they have their own set of file name handling functions. The actual ones require a real connection to an ESX server. Also the test case functions always worked correctly. Fix the regression and add a new in-the-wild VMX file that contains such a problematic absolute path. Even though this test case won't protect against new regressions. Defining environment variables for debug log-level and log-file will avoid specifying the same in each virsh command. Following is a patchset for enabling env variable support for virsh logging. Two new environment variables are defined: a. VIRSH_DEBUG=<log_level> log_level can be a value between 0 - 4, where 0 -> "ERROR" 1 -> "WARNING" 2 -> "NOTICE" 3 -> "INFO" 4 -> "DEBUG" b. VIRSH_LOG_FILE=<logfile-path-and-name> logfile-path-and-name is the name and complete path for the log file. The above two variables are independent. if log_level is specified without setting a log file name, then, logs will be displayed in stdio. Hi, I am trying to write the patch file for live migration which uses UDP as the transport protocol. ---So I prepare to edit the existing API which uses the TCP as the transport protocol for the migration.I want to know the modules executing during live migration in current libvirt.(I m using ubuntu10.10 as the guest and suitable latest version of libvirt) ----If any document which clearly shows the actual migration process. I mean which are the functions called during live migration and how the data flow occurs between the two physical machines or the hypervisor. --In LAN the UDP can be used for the live migration as the loss of packets and collision of packets are negligibly less. --Even RUDP can also be used instead of TCP, as RUDP is reliable. --The complete set of the code which responsible for live migration is required where I can get that..? Hi. As reported by Diego Blanco in - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=702602 commit f0443765 which replaced openvz_readline to getline(3) broke OpenVZ driver as it changed semantics of EOF-handling when parsing OpenVZ configuration. There're several other issues reported with current OpenVZ driver: #1: unclear error message when parsing "CPUS=" line #2: openvz driver goes into crashing loop #3: "NETIF=" line in configuration is not parsed correctly #4: aborts even when optional parameter is missing #5: there's a potential memory leak In this email, I'm sending in updated patch to fix #[145]. This patch does not fix #[23] as I haven't verified these yet, but this at least got me to run OpenVZ on libvirt once again. This patch applies to latest git, and I verified that both "make check" and "make syntax-check" passes (except for check_author_list check).
