Hi,all,i am using libvirt to manage my vm,in these days i am testing the libvirt snapshot ,but meet some problem: the snapshot was created from this command: snapshot-create-as win7 --disk-only --diskspec vda,snapshot=external --diskspec hda,snapshot=no but when i tried to revert from the snapshot which created from the above command ,i got error below: virsh # snapshot-revert win7 1338041515 --force error: unsupported configuration: revert to external disk snapshot not supported yet version: virsh # version Compiled against library: libvir 0.9.4 Using library: libvir 0.9.4 Using API: QEMU 0.9.4 Running hypervisor: QEMU 1.0.93

[libvirt-users] Using certtool to generate certificates for ESXi

Hello, I'm using certtool to generate the server certificates for ESXi - http://libvirt.org/remote.html#Remote_TLS_CA. I just copy the server certificate and key as /etc/vmware/ssl/rui.crt and /etc/vmware/ssl/rui.key. And then use virsh to connect from a CentOS 6.4 VM running on it - "virsh -c esx://<esx IP>. I get the following error - error: internal error curl_easy_perform() returned an error: Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with known CA certificates (60) : Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with known CA certificates error: failed to connect to the hypervisor is there something basic that I'm missing? Hi all, Trying to test libvirt 1.1.3 with virtlockd locking my qcow2 images on a NFS storage between two kvm hosts. ./configure ... --with-init-script=upstart Libvirtd upstart script is actually well generated but I can't see nothing about virtlockd... or am I blind ? :) Nevertheless, running virtlockd -d && service libvirtd restart works fine. Am I wrong thinking that editing qemu-lockd.conf with my needs and qemu.conf with lock_manager="lockd" was enough ? Thank you for your help.

Hello list, my name is Matteo, i'm new on that list. I'm working on a multitenancy platform with linux containers through libvirt on a production system with Red Hat 6.4. Every container run a separate instance of OpenSSH and Apache HTTPd and I need to give root privileges to the developers and I try to configure SELinux using svirt and MCS. I try the secmodel type dynamic and static in the xml file but it didn't work, I received the following error: error : virSecurityLabelDefParseXML:3228 : XML error: security label is missing error : virNetSocketNewConnectUNIX:566 : Failed to connect socket to '/var/run/libvirt/lxc/cntr1.sock': Connection refused I configure the followings secmodel definition and used chcon on the rootfs directory (created with yum) with "system_u:object_r:svirt_lxc_file_t:s0:c30,c50" label: <seclabel type='static' model='selinux' relabel='no'> <label>system_u:system_r:svirt_lxc_net_t:s0:c30,c50</label> </seclabel> or: <seclabel type='dynamic' model='selinux' relabel='yes'> <label>system_u:system_r:svirt_lxc_net_t:s0:c30,c50</label> </seclabel> I try to compile the last version from the master branch of git the result was always the same, the error was related to the SELinux driver not enabled. The output from "virsh -c lxc:/// capabilities" doesn't show the secmodel and doi tag like the qemu/kvm have for the lxc driver the selinux driver. How can I enable the SELinux driver for libvirt lxc in Red Hat 6.4? SELinux is in enforcing mode. Thanks in advance, Matteo

We've gone back to using an older machine that used to run libvirt just fine. Updated to F18, libvirt-1.1.0-1.fc18.x86_64. VirtualBox works ok. Now I can't start any image. For one machine i get: .............. File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/libvirt.py", line 698, in create if ret == -1: raise libvirtError ('virDomainCreate() failed', dom=self) libvirtError: internal error Cannot find suitable CPU model for given data that's whether I use what we used to use "Phenom" or the selection from allowing virt-manager to choose "Opteron G3". For another machine we get: libvirtError: internal error Process exited while reading console log output: char device redirected to /dev/pts/37 (label charserial0) failed to initialize KVM: Device or resource busy Doing some debugging, I found: 1. On boot the kvm_amd and kvm kernel modules won't/don't load. Nothing in dmesg. Modprobe does load them. lsmod | grep kvm kvm_amd 59982 0 kvm 429349 1 kvm_amd I still can't make anything work with the modules loaded. 2. Hi libvirt guys, I am an newbie to libvirt. There is an requirement for libvirt: Every time I want to rename an guest by virsh command, I need to virsh edit origin_guest(edit the name,delete/edit the uuid) after that a new guest with the same configuration as origin_guest was defined, then virsh undefine origin_guest. Seems it's a little complex, so should be there an virsh command like "virsh rename origin_guest new_guest"? I know I can use virt-manager to rename an guest,but if there is an virsh command can do it, I think it's much useful. Thanks -- Regards shyu

Hi guys, I'm running a KVM/libvirt host in a datacenter and got a fancy IPv4 subnet from my provider. hello all, I have been trying to set-up bridged network with VLAN and not able to succeed as many tutorials address only single NIC. I tried to compile from sources, but not sure where can I get the drivers from. Reposting from virt-tools mailing list: Hi! I'm facing a problem that could be triggered by some lacking of support from libvirt on Open vSwitch (or could be my mistake). I have interests in researching on virtual networks and SDN. To keep things simple, I've decided to use libvirt/virt-tools to manage VM's since my focus is on the network, instead of using a full feature system like OpenStack. I'm quite new with libvirt/virt-tools, but I have a good experience with openvswitch and other virtualizations technologies (which I dropped in libvirt/kvm favor). I'm using Fedora 19 packages openvswitch (1.11.0-1.fc19.x86_64) libvirt (1.0.5.6-3.fc19.x86_64) virt-install (0.10.0-4.fc19.noarch) I've created an OVS bridge (databr0) outside libvirt, and then defined it inside libvirt with: <network> <name>databr0</name> <forward mode='bridge'/> <bridge name='databr0'/> <virtualport type='openvswitch'/> </network> And then 'net-autostart' and 'net-start' it with virsh. Hi I would like to know if it's possible to define serial port speed using libvirt. I'm trying to connect the guest with the host for communication. Usually only small messages are transferred, but i might need to transfer huge files, so i would like to know if i can use SerialPort interface to do that. Thanks anyway, Marco Dinis

Hey guys, I'm running the following setup on a few hosts: ~ # virsh version Compiled against library: libvir 0.9.8 Using library: libvir 0.9.8 Using API: QEMU 0.9.8 Running hypervisor: QEMU 1.0.0 Online Migrations with local storage are working smooth, Host OS is always Ubuntu 12.04, CPUs are Intel E3-1245 V2, 32GB Ram. Now I installed the same software on different hardware: Intel E5-2620, ~128GB Ram The problem: Online migrations from an E5-2620 to another E5-2620 aren't possible: ~ # virsh --debug=1 migrate --verbose my-virtual-maschine qemu+ssh://virt@192.168.99.16:222/system migrate: verbose(bool): (none) migrate: domain(optdata): vm-42800 migrate: desturi(optdata): qemu+ssh://virt@192.168.99.16:222/system migrate: found option <domain>: vm-42800 migrate: found option <domain>: vm-42800 error: End of file while reading data: : Input/output error error: Reconnected to the hypervisor I can't find anything related to this in the libvirt logfile or via an strace. Are there any utilities or scripts that automate the process of upgrading VMs, along with other maintenance such as doing a hashdeep check of system files? The key features I'm looking for would do something like: - A: Shut down VM. - B: Do a hashdeep check of system files. - C: Optionally restore VM from a previous backup. - D: Restart VM. - E: Upgrade packages. - F: Shut down VM. - G: Backup VM (for next "C".) - H: Run hashdeep on system files (for next "B".) - I: Restart VM. Other features, but less important, would backup/restore application files as well.

[libvirt-users] cannot attach device using libvirt

Hello guys: I am using libvirt 0.9.4 on a CentOS 6.3 server.The operation of attach device won't work.It states "error:Operation failed.Device hotplug is not supported." When issue attach device command, there's nothing happen in guest dmesg log. Anybody came across this problem? Any help will be appreciated!

Dear All, While trying to run kvm VM using vmdk disk on 6.4 , I got into the following error, error: Failed to create domain from vmdkvm.xml error: internal error process exited while connecting to monitor: qemu-kvm: -drive file=/mnt/vmdkTOKVM/vmdkTOKVM.vmdk,if=none,id=drive-ide0-0-0,format=vmdk,cache=none: 'vmdk' invalid format upon further digging I came across this thread ( https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvirt-users/2011-November/msg00044.html) also qemu-kvm shows that vmdk is supported but all in vain Even if I try running with command line instead of XML I get error though it says it is supported [root@vmdkTOKVM]# /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm -drive file=/mnt/vmdkTOKVM/vmdkTOKVM.vmdk,format=? Hi, I am getting the following error when I try to migrate two VM's on my network using virt-manager: Unable to migrate guest: internal error unable to execute QEMU command 'getfd': No file descriptor supplied via SCM_RIGHTS All of the other VM's work just fine. There are 18 and I tested all of them. Version info OS: CentOS 6.4 (2.6.32-358.23.2) [the hypervisors and the guests] Compiled against library: libvirt 0.10.2 Using library: libvirt 0.10.2 Using API: QEMU 0.10.2 Running hypervisor: QEMU 0.12.1 It looks like this might be related to bug 731243 in the red hat bug DB but that was for 0.9.4. If it is related to SELinux permissions, where can I look to fix it? I ran "sealert -a /var/log/audit/audit.log" on the source hypervisor, the destination hypervisor and on the VM itself but no alerts were reported. Any hints would be greatly appreciated, I am not sure what to try next. Thanks, Joe

Hello, I would like to use RBD Format 2 images so I can take advantage of layering. However, when I use "qemu-img create -f rbd rbd:data/foo 10G", I get format 1 RBD images. (Actually, when I use the "-f rbd" flag, qemu-img core dumps, but it looks like that feature may have been deprecated [1]) Is there any way to have qemu-img create RBD Format 2 images or am I better off using `rbd` to create the image then booting from the disk and performing the install, etc.? FYI for those not able to visit KVM Forum this year, we're attempting to have presentations streaming via G+. No guarantees about success, since we're at mercy of the Hotel net connection, but if streaming fails we'll at least have recordings of all sessions to be uploaded afterwards. Keep an eye on the G+ community mentioned below if you want to try and catch any live sessions. We'll put info in there if we suceed in streaming. Also code reviews next week may be subject to delay, since the Red Hat libvirt team will be at the KVM Forum. Hello, I've got a working QEMU command line that I am trying to get into a libvirt dom xml and using domxml-from-native doesn't seem to know how to handle all of it. Hi, I have a libvirt_lxc system container (with systemd). After running "reboot -f" inside the container, I get "Rebooting.\n". htop shows that the libvirt_lxc and all subprocesses are stopped, but from libvirt api/virsh/virt-manager, the domain is still "running". So it looks like libvirtd doesn't detect that libvirt_lxc process was stopped... Florian

Hi All I am trying to get the performance statistics for KVM using Java bindings. I found some api's for getting memory stats but not able to find any for cpu stats. I found virDomainGetCPUStats which look like its going to return cpu stats for a VM at http://libvirt.org/html/libvirt-libvirt.html and http://libvirt.org/hvsupport.html . I couldnt find these methods getting called from java source too. Which libvirt version does Java API correspond to ? I m using Java API 0.5.1 . If i want to get the virDomainGetCPUStats which is available from 0.9.x versions of libvirt, whats the way to get it in Java API bindings. Thanks Atul

Hi, I installed Solaris 11(x86_64) as a guest in Fedora 19 KVM host and it works well. It seems that Solaris 11 can recognize only USB mouse but cannot recognize PS/2 mouse. When a PS/2 mouse is attached to the solaris 11 guest, something conflict occured and the mouse pointer is not moving on the solaris desktop. So, I tried to remove the PS/2 mouse from the guest, but I cannot remove it using virt manager. The "remove" button is grayed out by virt manager. I have to edit the /etc/libvirt/qemu/xxx.xml file to remove it. Why is it prevented from removing the PS/2 mouse by virt manager? I hope it wil be fixed. -- hisao

Greetings! I am new to kvm Libvirt and are writing a python script to get the number of pre-copy cycles during a remote vm migration given memory size M of a VM in MB, the page dirty rate R of a vm in MB/s. My question is on how to get the page dirty rate. Does kvm libvirt provide a dirty page log facility that provides user space with a bitmap of modified pages since the last call? And if yes, please kindly direct me on how to get started. I have searched and come across things like VIR_NODE_MEMORY_STATS and kvm_get_dirty_log(struct kvm *kvm, struct kvm_dirty_log *log, int *is_dirty), I do not know if these are the ones and if yes how I can use them. H, I am using libvirt from maven using a nexus proxy pointing to http://www.libvirt.org/maven2/ It downloads the jar fine but is expecting libvirt-0.5.1.pom (and ...sha1). In the proxy only the jar appears. When I download and rename the pom to my local .m2 cache my build works fine. Is this a bug in the distribution of libvirt in its maven repo or is my dependency wrong somehow? Kind regards, Daan Hoogland

Greetings ... I already spent quite some time to debug this ... See the thread on gentoo-user ml for reference: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.user/270091 basically I get dropped connections when I try to edit a VM via virt-manager. Tested from my gentoo workstation and a fresh ubuntu installation inside a VM at my office. The server is a new and shiny gentoo box with (gentoo release-numbers): libvirt-1.1.2-r3 qemu-1.5.3 openssh-5.9_p1-r4 ... 64bit, lots of RAM and CPUs .. installed last week ... so no obvious cruft on there. plain ssh sessions work fine for me. I access the server over an IPSEC-VPN terminated on my pfsense-router and on the customers side there is a firewall. This firewall allows full access for my private subnet, TCP/UDP ports 1:65535 ... so there should be no restrictions. Hi I am using virt-manager and created bridge at host . My host nw interfaces is auto br0 iface br0 inet static address x.x.x.178 network x.x.x.0 netmask x.x.x.x broadcast gateway x.x.x.x[gateway of eth0 earlier] bridge_ports eth0 bridge_fd 0 bridge_hello 2 bridge_maxage 12 bridge_stp off #dns-search google.com dns-nameservers x.x.x.x x.x.x.x with this config 1] net inside host is working 2]net inside vms created using nat is working but i have to manually ser interface file inside the NATD vm. 3] when i create virtualnetwork in routed mode using shared physical device br0 and assign vm to it the net inside vm not working . 4] created virtual network using only routed mode with any physical device instaead og br0 still net inside vm not working. I followed documentation on libvirt site . I want vms indifferent nw should communicate with each other like net1 and vm1 can ping vm2 in net2 .

You can do this with the built in dhcp server for the virtual network. Hello all! I try to use network filters for openvswitch interfaces. This is the xml configuration of my bridge interface <interface type='bridge'> <mac address='00:11:22:33:44:55'/> <source bridge='virbr1'/> <virtualport type='openvswitch'> <parameters interfaceid='0529d6b5-627c-4330-803f-0d7018e6d496'/> </virtualport> <model type='virtio'/> <filterref filter='myfilter'> <parameter name='IP' value='10.10.10.99'/> </filterref> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x06' function='0x0'/> </interface> The filter 'myfilter' is defined. If I start a domain with this interface all ports are correctly added to the 'virbr1' bridge, plus libvirt creates firewall rules using ebtables tool. BUT ebtables controls linux bridges, not openvswich bridges. As far as I know OVS has its own tool to create firewall rules for its bridges - ovs-ofctl. How to make libvirt to use the right tool for creating firewall rules for OVS bridges? If I remove ebtables tool and try to start the domain, libvirt complains "cannot create rule since ebtables tool is missing." Thank you.

Hi I was trying out the libxl backend of xen 4.3 with libvirt, but I found it very unstable and unusable.
