[libvirt] Where are libvirt configuration files located ?

Hello. As there's a /etc/libvirt/qemu/networks directory, where are located configuration files for pools, domains, storage volumes ? I noticed many warnings like this: src/virsh.c:2115: warning: Empty msgid. It is reserved by GNU gettext: gettext("") returns the header entry with meta information, not the empty string. the following set of patches implement the logging infrastructure based on the discussion about it last month. It is based on the following interfaces, and in a large part reflects the log4j principles. 4 level of logging priorities: typedef enum { VIR_LOG_DEBUG = 1, VIR_LOG_INFO, VIR_LOG_WARN, VIR_LOG_ERROR, } virLogPriority; An output is a channel to output logging informations and a filter is a rule to allow or not log information to flow through. The internal APIs defines a function to log a message: extern void virLogMessage(const char *category, int priority, int flags, const char *fmt, ...); the category is in general the file name as defined by __FILE__ The matching is done against the category based on a substring, for example "xen" would match all logs emitted by xend_internal.c xen_inotify.c xen_internal.c xen_unified.c Something more complex could be defined for example matching based on regexp or based on the full message content and not just the category but this gets heavier and could be done later using specific flags in virLogDefineFilter. One thing which I feel is somewhat incomplete is that it's impossible to remotely get debugging output from the libvirt daemon serving the requests. Currently all logs are also accumulated in a cyclic logging buffer, I would associate a dump function later to be hooked for example to a signal handler in the daemon. But I'm unsure we should allow dumping logging information to the remote end, probably not the whole set. So there is still room for a bit more development, but I think it's usable as-is and already cleans quite a bit of the various logging interface scattered in the various modules. [libvirt] [PATCH] Unify pool-create-as and pool-define-as xml building

The attached patch unifies the xml building and command line option registering for the virsh pool-*-as commands, fixing a few bugs in the process: - pool-define-as was creating <host> without a name attribute (rhbz 476708) - pool-create-as wasn't adding a closing tag to its <host> block - pool-create-as didn't have the source-name option All seem like a good justification for not duplicating the logic. The patch ends up looking a bit bizarre, but it's mostly just moving the xml building from create-as into a separate function buildPoolXML, and then wiring it up. Thanks, Cole

I've tested it via a small stand-alone program on both kernels, but via libvirt only on rawhide. Another simple question, what is the reasoning about the size field in this call. I would really be a happy boy if anyone said: if you put in path == NULL, it will fill your stats structure up to size interfaces. ...but since this is not the case (yet) what is the reason behind it? Stefan

This patch does the actual saving and removal of the vm status. It does so only at vm creation time at the moment. [libvirt] libvirt autostart VM is broken

Hi all, The libvirtd autostart VM option seems to be broken [1,2], so I need a work-around. How can I start the libvirtd service, and then (after the service has fully started) start a particular VM from the command line? hi I was trying to migrate KVM based vM between two machine. when i tried to make connection with destination machine but it is not working for me. i got some error. i tried the following uri qemu://192.168.1.22/ qemu://hostname/ everything is failed. The following huge series of patches adds thread safety for the libvirtd daemon and drivers, and makes the daemon multi-threaded in processing RPC calls. This enables multiple clients to be processed in parallel, without blocking each other. It does not change the thread rules for the virConnectPtr object though, so each individual client is still serialized. There are two core places where we have to have synchronization in the threading model this patch series introduces - The libvirt daemon code - A single global server lock (aka struct qemud_server) - One lock per client connection (aka struct qemud_client) - The driver implementations - One lock per driver (aka QEMU, LXC, Test, UML, OpenVZ, Network, Storage, Node Devices) - One lock per primary object in a driver (virDomainObjPtr, virNetworkObjPtr, virStoragePoolObjPtr, virNodeDeviceObjptr instances) For most cases, the big global server / driver locks are only held while obtaining one of the finer grained locks. This gives a fairly good level of concurrency for operations touching different objects. Once this core infrastructure is merged, it will be possible to iterate on impl of drivers to reduce the time locks are held - eg avoid holding a lock while talking to the QEMU monitor interface. To try and make it easier to spot thread locking problems this series refactors alot of methods so that there is only a single return point where the unlock call can be placed, rather than multiple return point which increases the chances of missing an unlock call. This touches a huge amount of code, so I'd like to get this all merged ASAP as it'll be really hard to keep it synced with ongoing changes. [libvirt] how to connect LXC via libvirt

Hi Daniel, I followed the instructions in: https://lists.linux-foundation.org/pipermail/containers/2008-September/0132… to try to connect with LXC which is built in my VM (ubuntu7.10 + kernel 2.6.27-rc8). Unfortunately, I fail. The container can work when I use its user-space interfaces, however I can not execute the "virsh --connect lxc:/// define mycontainer.xml" after I have installed the libvirt (downloaded from CVS). I checked the libvirt.c and found there are only the "xen:///" support, not any codes to support LXC. Therefore, I am wondering whether LXC has been supported in libvirt mainstream and what should I do to get the result as your statement in maillist. Thanks, Ian
