[Libvir] java-libvirt on cvs:libvirt.org

Hallo list, i took the java-libvirt port from Tóth István (Thank you - great work !!) and added - the some features from libvirt 0.4.0 - integrate of xsd XML-description / validator - added auto generation of XML-beans related to the XSD file. - project build.xml file - integration of testng - remote building of JNI library - remote testing of junit/testing tests So, I want to publish to port to a public cvs-tree. Is there a little space on the libvirt website for this port ? regards Danny

[Libvir] RFC: Supporting serial & parallel ports for QEMU (and improving Xen)

One user's feature request for our QEMU driver is to support serial ports. Easy you might think... you'd be wrong :-) On Xen we have very simple approach. When creating a guest simply add <console/> And it'll cause a serial port to be setup with an autoallocated pty, so you get back <console pty='/dev/pts/5'/> In retrospect calling it 'console' was dumb, but hey we're stuck with that now and its only a tiny naming issue so I don't mind really. We can do the same thing with QEMU quite easily. QEMU, however, supports many many many more ways to hooking up the serial port to Dom0. Indeed so does Xen fullyvirt, but we don't expose this ability. Parallel ports have identical config syntax to serial ports so we might as well deal with both at once. So, here's a stripped down version of the QEMU docs: [quote http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/qemu-doc.html#SEC10] `-serial dev' Redirect the virtual serial port to host character device dev. The host serial port parameters are set according to the emulated ones. /dev/parportN [Linux only, parallel port only] Use host parallel port N. Currently only SPP parallel port features can be used. file:filename Write output to filename. No character can be read. stdio [Unix only] standard input/output pipe:filename name pipe filename COMn [Windows only] Use host serial port n udp:[remote_host]:remote_port[@[src_ip]:src_port] This implements UDP Net Console. tcp:[host]:port[,server][,nowait][,nodelay] The TCP Net Console has two modes of operation. telnet:host:port[,server][,nowait][,nodelay] The telnet protocol is used instead of raw tcp sockets. unix:path[,server][,nowait] A unix domain socket is used instead of a tcp socket. [/quote] I don't see any reason to not support all/most of these options. The things I don't like here is that /dev/XXX, vs /dev/parportN, vs COMn differences for connecting guest <-> host passthrough of the devices. I figure it could be simpler if it was just represented as 'n' and we'd translate that to be /dev/ttyS[n] or /dev/parport[n] or COM[n] as needed. The question as ever is how to represent this in XML. For serial ports we'll stick with '<console>', while parallel ports we might as well use a better named '<parallel>'. Next up, I think should use a 'type' attribute on this element to determine the main way ot connecting the device, and then more type specific attributes or sub-elements as needed. If 'type' was not specified then use a default of 'pty', since that gives compatability with existing practice. We already have ability to detect / validate that for both Xen & QEMU drivers. [Libvir] [RFC] Add Container support to libvirt

Greetings, I'd like to extend libvirt to support Containers. As libvirt already supports Xen, KVM, QEMU and OpenVZ, I think it would be valuable to be able to utilize existing utilities to manage containers. I've spent some time looking through the libvirt api and how this Container support will fit. Based on the XML format section of the libvirt website and some list discussions I put together the following proposed XML format: <domain type='linuxcontainer'> <name>Container123</name> <uuid>8dfd44b31e76d8d335150a2d98211ea0</uuid> <container> <filesystem> <mount>/etc = /home/user/lxc_files/etc</mount> <mount>/var = /home/user/lxc_files/var</mount> </filesystem> <application>dbserver</application> <network hostname='browndog'> <ip address="192.168.1.110" netmask="255.255.255.0"/> <gateway address="192.168.1.1"/> <nameserver>192.168.1.1</nameserver> </ip> </network> <cpushare>40</cpushare> <memory>65536</memory> </container> <devices> <console tty='/dev/pts/4' /> </devices> </domain> The clone() function is used with the CLONE_NEWPID and CLONE_NEWNS flags to start a new process within it's own process name space. The only processes visible to it will be itself and any processes that it spawns. The process that clone creates will start out preparing the container environment. This involves setting up any network interface, setting up the file system by performing any requested mounts, mounting /proc, setting up a tty device, populating /dev as necessary, and performing any other necessary initializations. It will then start the application(s) requested by the user. The executables started within the container could be an application or script or possibly /sbin/init. The mounts that the user specifies will need to be populated with the appropriate contents for whatever applications they are going to run within the container. cgroup will be used for isolation and association with controllers for cpu and memory resources. [Libvir] [PATCH] Xen: Support cpu_weight and cpu_cap for Xen.

Hi, I set the information of cpu_weight/cpu_cap to configuration file or sxp format, and execute "virsh start". [Libvir] with-openvz compile error

[Libvir] Documentation on the xml format

Hi I am looking for documentation on the xml-format for virtlib. The information on the website is handy but not nearly complete enough. I am looking for documentation that will tell me what options are available to use in the xml and what things will be done automatically by the libraries. If I thus leave out the uuid will it create it automatically? etc. Regards

[Libvir] OCaml bindings 0.4.0.0 released

The only significant change here is that these now don't block all threads during a long-running libvirt API call. So you can have a thread to keep the display updated and another making libvirt calls. [Libvir] Libvirt version

Hi, Currently the latest version of libvirt available is 0.3.3. But SLES 10 ships 0.2.0 version of libvirt (not sure what version RHEL 5.1 ships). Any idea when and on what basis SLES decides to ship the upgraded version of libvirt. Thanks, Vadiraj

[Libvir] PATCH: Add dep on 'nc' RPM

The libvirt SSH tunnelling support requires 'nc' to operate. The libvirt RPM does not, however, have any dependancy on 'nc'. So by default it is pure luck whether you can use SSH tunnelling after installing the libvirt package & starting the daemon. Even though we don't technically need it on the client end, I figure nc is so small we may as well add a dep to the main libvirt RPM. This ensures nc is present anywhere the daemon is.
