Hello everybody,
I created a rbd pool and activated it, but I can't seem to create
volumes in it with virsh or virt-install?

I ended using virsh edit ceph-test.powercraft.nl and making creating
the disk manually.

[libvirt-users] virRandomBits - not very random

I just ran into an issue where I had about 30 guests get duplicate mac
addresses assigned. These were scattered across 30 different machines.
Some debugging revealed that:
1) All the host machines were restarted within a couple seconds of each
other
2) All the host machines had fairly similar libvirtd pids (within ~100
PIDs of each other)
3) Libvirt seeds the RNG using 'time(NULL) ^ getpid()'
This perfectly explains why I saw so many duplicate mac addresses.
Why is the RNG seed such a predictable value? Surely there has to be a
better source of a random seed then the timestamp and the pid?
The PID seems to me to be a very bad source of any randomness. I just
ran a test across 60 of our hosts. 43 of them shared their PID with at
least one other machine.

[libvirt-users] virDomainCoreDumpWithFormat files created as root

Greetings,
I am dumping a guest VM memory for inspection using the command
"virDomainCoreDumpWithFormat" and the created files appear to belong to
root (both user and group).
I have searched around but didn't find any answer. Is there a way to
instruct QEMU to create those files under a different user?

[libvirt-users] PCI passthrough fails in virsh: iommu group is not viable

I would really appreciate some pointers on what I am doing wrong here.
I have a need to run multiple virtual guests which have each their own GPU and
some USB controllers passed-through. I am able to run one of the guests like
this (assuming vfio stuff has happened elsewhere), but I would prefer to use
virsh:

[libvirt-users] VM locking

Dear All,
I am trying to use VM (disk) locking on a two node Centos 7 KVM cluster. Unfortunately, I am not successful.
Using virtlockd (https://libvirt.org/locking-lockd.html), I get each host to write the zero length file with a hashed filename to the shared folder specified. Regardless of which host I start a VM (domain) on, they do produce the identical filename per VM. What does not work, however, is to prevent the second host to start the VM already running on the first VM.
Using sanlock (https://libvirt.org/locking-sanlock.html), no domains do start at all. However, the file "__LIBVIRT__DISKS__" is also not written to the shared folder. Hence, nothing works.
Can someone please point me to the right direction?
My system is current Centos 7 using a gluster storage setup like suggested for oVirt (https://community.redhat.com/blog/2014/10/up-and-running-with-ovirt-3-5/) based on the oVirt 3.5 repo but without an engine. I do this, because I want to retain VM files in qcow2 format for live backups and with human readable names. What does work then is, e.g., live migration. A locking mechanism to prevent starting a VM twice would be good.
Please note that this configuration - both according to redhat and to my own trial and error - requires Lock=False in /etc/nfsmount.conf. Is there a connection with my findings? My issues occur regardless of the files being in NFS or Gluster folders. KVM must load the Gluster storage indirectly via NFS rather than straight via Gluster, as Gluster storage does not seem to fully work, at least in virt-manager.
My software versions are:
libvirt 1.2.8-16.el7_1.3.x86_64
qemu-kvm ev-2.1.2-23.el7_1.3.1.x86_64

[libvirt-users] CPU feature 'svm' not reported inside guest without 'host-passthrough'

Hi,
I am confused by the behaviour of the CPU description in my VM. I have a host with an AMD CPU with
SVM feature and I want to try nested virtualization on a Fedora22 guest. The host is Fedora22 as well.

I tried 'custom' mode with model qemu64 with required feature 'SVM' but '/proc/cpuinfo' in the guest
doesn't show SVM.

However, if I forbid the SVM feature, the guest can't be created and libvirt complains that the host CPU
has SVM.

The only way to have SVM reported in '/proc/cpuinfo' inside the guest VM is using 'host-passthrough'
mode, but I want to avoid it to allow migration of the VM.
Is this an issue with AMD
