Fix compile errors in 'safezero()' functions in util.c Commit 70e7672184ff639856d5f2f3bf7849464031dff9 introduced some compile errors because of the unsued 'flags' parameter in all three version of the 'safezero()' function. All, Attached is a *very* rough first draft of the secure migration code I'm working on. This is in no way ready for merge. That being said, this demonstrates the basic idea that I'm pursuing, and I've actually been able to perform a KVM secure live migrate using this. Before I go and finish polishing it up, though, I wanted to make sure there wasn't anything fundamentally wrong with the approach. So, in that vein, comments are appreciated. Currently we are pretty strict about what emulator binary we allow for QEMU guests on x86 arches. In particular, for arch+domain type combos: - i686+qemu must use 'qemu' binary - x86_64+qemu must use 'qemu-system-x86_64' binary - kvm must use 'qemu-kvm' or 'kvm' binaries - i686+kvm on x86_64 host is not allowed These restrictions are overkill because - i686+qemu could use 'qemu-system-x86_64' if '-cpu qemu32' is added - i686+qemu could use 'qemu-kvm' if '-cpu qemu32 -no-kvm' is added - x86_64+qemu could use 'qemu-kvm' if '-no-kvm' is added - i686+kvm on x86_64 host can be used if '-cpu qemu32' is added This patch makes QEMU driver more flexible in this way when setting up its capabilities information. It also makes it aware of the -no-kvm and -cpu flag, using them where required by the os type + arch + emulator combinations specified in the guest XML. This should finally remove the confusion where a user in virt-manager selectrs 'i686' and then wonders why we've disallowed choice of 'kvm'. It also fixes 'virsh version' when only qemu-kvm is installed. The matrix should now work thus: 1. qemu, qemu-system-x86_64, qemu-kvm all available qemu+i686 => qemu qemu+x86_64 => qemu-system-x86_64 kvm+i686 => qemu-kvm -cpu qemu32 kvm+x86_64 => qemu-kvm 2. qemu, qemu-kvm available qemu+i686 => qemu qemu+x86_64 => qemu-kvm -no-kvm kvm+i686 => qemu-kvm -cpu qemu32 kvm+x86_64 => qemu-kvm 3. qemu-system-x86_64, qemu-kvm available qemu+i686 => qemu-system-x86_64 -cpu qemu32 qemu+x86_64 => qemu-system-x86_64 kvm+i686 => qemu-kvm -cpu qemu32 kvm+x86_64 => qemu-kvm 4. qemu-kvm available qemu+i686 => qemu-kvm -no-kvm -cpu qemu32 qemu+x86_64 => qemu-kvm -no-kvm kvm+i686 => qemu-kvm -cpu qemu32 kvm+x86_64 => qemu-kvm The only real remaining problem is that we don't cope with scenario where the KVM enabled binary is called 'qemu-system-x64_64' instead of 'qemu-kvm' or 'kvm'. This patchset makes use of the posix_fallocate() call to allocate chunks of files whenever needed if it's available. We fallback to using safewrite() if it's not available. mmap() could be used instead of safewrite too; I have a patch in case someone is interested in seeing it.

[libvirt] TLS for libvirt remote access

After generating TLS certificates for Libvirt remote access , I test the certificates by running pki_check.sh and get the following message : The CA certificate and the client certificate do not match What can cause this message ? I guess this is a problem as I am trying to access remotely the host machine and fail with a message of :libvir: Remote error : Connection refused That happens even if I use a client and server on the same machine and try : sudo virsh -c qemu://localhost/defualt. I am using libvirt 0.6. can I get first a connection with no certificate/encryption by using URI = qemu+tcp://... by making the needed change on the libvirtd.conf file on the server side ? that did not work either I followed the instructions in the Libvirt Web Site (generate a CA private key and certificate then the client and server keys and certificates and copy them to appropriate locations),. Also restarted the libvirtd with the --listen --verbose flags on the server side what can be wrong with my steps ? Hi, I'm running Fedora 10 with the following libvirt version: libvirt-0.6.0-3 I'm calling virDomainGetVcpus() with the following parameters: virDomainGetVcpus(dom, info, max, NULL, 0); where max = 2 and dom and info are both non-NULL. However, I'm getting the following error from libvirt: libvir: Domain error : invalid argument in virDomainGetVcpus I tracked this down, and it's failing the if (cpumaps != NULL && maplen < 1) check in libvirt.c because cpumaps is non-NULL. Which is very strange because I'm definitely passing a NULL value. These patches introduce safezero() to allocate chunks for a file and write zeroes to them. Not yet ready for merge; I don't understand the configure system yet and don't know how to test for posix_fallocate() availability. The second patch introduces a new variable, track_allocation_progress, which perhaps belongs somewhere else. Pointers for both these problems appreciated. Thanks, Amit

[libvirt] get domU hostname

Hello, Sorry if this has been asked before, I did some searches and came up empty. I am writing a tool to get data on Xen using libvirt everything is going great, however; I have a need to get the hostname of domU from the program running in dom0. Is this possible using libvirt? Thanks Jim
