Hello! I am trying to fix the loadable modules support by removing all direct calls from qemu_driver.c and qemu_conf.c into nwfilter functions. The below patch extends the nwfilter driver interface with 2 more private functions to instantiate and tear down the filters. I call them 'private' because no client should ever be calling them via RPC and be able to tear down the filters for example -- they should only ever be callable from within libvirtd. I extended the qemudShutdownVMDaemon function with the virConnectPtr type of parameter so that I have the pointer to conn->nwfilterDriver to access the private nwfilter driver functions. The problem with that is that the conn pointer is not always available to be passed (qemuReconnectDomain, qemuHandleMonitorEOF), particularly in tear-down functions, and so I have to pass a NULL pointer, which then prevents the calling of the private interface function to tear down the filters.Does anyone have a suggestion on how I would best change the interface with the nwfilter driver to fix this particular problem? When I creating virtual Mashines with virt-install (Version 0.500.3-1) with following options: # virt-install --serial pty --hvm --virt-type kvm -l http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/dists/lenny/main/installer-i386/ -x console=ttyS0,9600 -w bridge=virt0,mac=52:54:00:12:34:29,model=virtio -k=de --nographics --prompt --disk=test.img,bus=virtio I get the following error messages: Creating domain... 0 B 00:00 error: Unable to get domain status error: operation failed: could not query memory balloon allocation Domain installation does not appear to have been successful. If it was, you can restart your domain by running 'virsh start test'; otherwise, please restart your installation. I have 4 gb Ram and 2 gb free. I am using libvirt-bin 0.8.1-2 and run all Commands as root. Can anywhere help? Hey Daniel, The cgroup mechanism have been integrated into libvirt for LXC and QEMU driver, and the LXC driver uses all of cgroup controllers except for net_cls and cpuset, while the QEMU driver only uses the cpu and devices controllers at present. >From the user point of view, user can use some virsh commands to control some guest resources: 1. Using 'virsh schedinfo' command to get/set CPU scheduler priority for a guest 2. Using 'virsh vcpuin' command to control guest vcpu affinity 3. Using 'virsh setmem' command to change memory allocation 4. Using 'virsh setmaxmem' command to change maximum memory limit 5. Using 'virsh setvcpus' command to change number of virtual CPUs I just make sure the above 1 using CPU scheduler controller, maybe 4 using Memory controller? and maybe 5 using CPU set controller? I am not sure. And I wonder how to control devices access via virsh command or libvirt binding API such as python binding? in addition, for CPU accounting and Freezer controller, how to use them to control guest resource from libvirt application layer? and how to check setting result is valid such as cpuacct? these issues let me confuse at recent. Hello All, I am trying to create a Domain/VM copy program. In this program, a completely new domain should be created from a source domain. What I tried so far is this: 1. Get the XML Desc of the source Domain using "virDomainGetXMLDesc". 2. Get the Hypervisor Object for the source Domain using "virDomainGetConnect". 3. Create a new Domain using the "virDomainCreateXML" method. After doing this, I get the following error: libvirt.libvirtError: POST operation failed: xend_post: error from xen daemon: (xend.err "Error creating domain: VM name already in use by domain 4") First of all, Is this the correct way to create a new Domain as a copy of the original?? [libvirt] Don't add iptables rules when creating networks

Hi, I just found out that libvirt always add some iptables rules if it creates a natted (or routed) network. There were a couple of mailing list posts about this so I'm pretty sure this is not news to you. I don't want to go into the debate if your approach is sensible or not (I guess there are some use cases where I kind of like it). However on my server machine I really need full control over my (rather complicated) firewall settings. Currently the newly added rules really create a lot of problems for me. For example if I manage to have a good configuration after startup and then start a libvirt network afterwards, it will inject its rules at the start of the FORWARD queue (even though the same parameters are already present at the end!). On every net start there will be more duplicated rules and they will take preference over my existing rules. Besides that specific issue I think this is only one tiny problem compared to others (central configuration of firewall rules, auditing requirements, ...). Therefore I would like to have some kind 'power user' flag that prevents libvirt from adding any filter rules. I'm fine with activating it manually as long as I don't have to patch libvirt. fs

Libvirt currently makes the assumption that disk devices are always accessible as files on the local system. However, certain types of virtual storage on qemu (e.g, NBD) may not be. This patch defines a new "virtual" disk device which is treated similarly to existing disk types, but which is exempted from at least one code path (qemuSecurityDACSetSecurityAllLabel) which assumes the disk to be accessible as a file. With this patch in place, a QEMU virtual disk can be declared as: <disk type='virtual' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' type='nbd' /> <source path='nbd:nbdhost:1234' /> <target dev='vda' bus='virtio' /> </disk> I haven't tested this with any drivers besides QEMU, so there might be some adjustments needed for those as well. Report that libvirt was built without that driver instead of trying to connect to a libvirtd, when we know that this is going to fail. --- I had this on my todo list for a while now, because multiple people on the mailing list and on IRC reported problems that can be summarized as: "I just built/installed libvirt and want to connect to an ESX server, but libvirt complains about missing certificates or wants to connect to a non-existing libvirtd on the ESX server. We already use the '-nodefaults' command line arg with QEMU to stop it adding any default devices to guests. Unfortunately, QEMU will load global config files from /etc/qemu that may also add default devices. These aren't blocked by '-nodefaults', so we need to also add the '-nodefconfig' arg to prevent that. Unfortunately these global config files are also used to define custom CPU models. So in blocking global hardware device addition we also block definitions of new CPU models. Libvirt doesn't know about these custom CPU models though, so it would never make use of them anyway. Thus blocking them via -nodefconfig isn't a show stopping problem. This patch adds an optional XML attribute to a nwfilter rule to give the user control over whether the rule is supposed to be using the match target or not. As some may have noticed I'm a bit away from the list, and will still for one more week. If we want to plan for a friday 25 release as suggested a couple of week ago this means we have one more week for commiting big changes (e.g. the new CreateWithFlags API but that looks uncontroversial), and start the freeze week next Friday the 18th. Hi all: I tried to use virsh domblkstat to get block information of a vm(xen para-virtualized), and it returns error message like this error: Failed to get block stats vm1 hda error: internal error read_bd_stats: Failed to read any block statistics I found the code in \src\xen\block_stats.c is wrong in line 121 "/sys/devices/xen-backend/vbd-%d-%d/statistics/%s", should be "/sys/devices/vbd-%d-%d/statistics/%s", in line 127 should be "/sys/devices/tap-%d-%d/statistics/%s", After modified and rebuild the soure code,the domblkstat can work fine. Anyone can help to update the code in the git?

Presently the vol-key command only supports being provided with a volume path. This patch adds support for providing it with a pool and volume identifier pair as well. virsh # vol-key --pool <pool-name-or-uuid> <vol-name-or-path> --- This is a clean patch against current git head, plus avoids a potential memory leak in the v1 code. It's identical to the v2 code, except now I may have the PATCHv3 subject prefix correct. :) Also unlike the v1 patch, this one doesn't change the help text for other volume commands. [libvirt] Virtual disk size associated with a Domain

Hello, Is there any way to fetch the size of all the virtual disks associated with a Domain?? I could not find one in the libvirt API., I tried using 'virStorageVol' and 'virStoragePool', but they returned null objects. Also I fetched 'virDomainBlockStats', but did not understand the information returned. i.e. 'rd_bytes' and 'wr_bytes'. Can we use this info for calculating the disk sizes? Any method for finding this is welcome. using virt or xm or virsh command line tools also. Also, What does the size of the "img" file for a Domain represent? Is it the disc size? Please help. Dear list, I'm trying to package libvirt 0.8.1 for our distribution, Pardus 2009.2. libvirt is installed perfectly normal, and libvirtd runs OK when I start it in a console using root account. However, when I start libvirtd as a service, with the same parameters, through the normal service startup functions, it segfaults. The services in Pardus 2009.2 are started using a management backend which works with python and service start/stop scripts are python based. [libvirt] guest clock offset, configuration

Hi, I'm having some trouble with guests booting up with huge clock offset (4 hrs). The offset is always the same which leads me to suspecting a configuration issue rather than a bug. I looked around libvirt documentation and so far checked these: * the hosts clock is correct (ntpd, manually verified) * the timezones are correct (and the same) on both host and guest * the clock element in the guest xml seems to be correct for a Linux guest - "<clock offset='utc'/>" Is there anything else I should check? FWIW, hosts are Fedora 12, guests are a mix of recent Fedoras. Thanks for any pointers, Jakub

As such, the series is minimally invasive, and can hopefully be backported easily to places like RHEL6. If desired, a later patch can add hooks (either a new XML element, or a new command comparable to autostart that can toggle the state of a hidden field associated with domains) so that virDomainCreate() can also be used to start a paused domain, but that will be more invasive. [libvirt] [PATCH] build: fix some mingw issues

On Fedora 13 with sufficient mingw32-* packages installed, running ./autobuild.sh failed to cross-compile to mingw because mingw32-pthreads installed a broken <pthread.h>. With that issue fixed, the build still failed due to use of O_SYNC. [libvirt] [PATCH] build: restore operation of bit-rotted 'make cov'

'./autobuild.sh' with lcov installed discovered that our coverage support has been bit-rotting for a while. This restores it back to a successful state, although I have not yet spent any time looking through the resulting files to look for low-hanging fruit in the unit test coverage front. * configure.ac: Clear COMPILER_FLAGS at right place. * Makefile.am (cov): Newer genhtml no longer likes plain -s. * m4/compiler-flags.m4 (gl_COMPILER_FLAGS): Don't AC_SUBST COMPILER_FLAGS; it is a shell variable for use in configure only. * src/Makefile.am (AM_CFLAGS, AM_LDFLAGS): New variables, to make it easier to provide global flag additions. Use throughout, to uniformly apply coverage flags. * .gitignore: Globally ignore gcov output. * daemon/.gitignore: Simplify. * src/.gitignore: Likewise. * tests/.gitignore: Likewise. --- I almost decided to tear out lcov support altogether; fortunately, it turned out to be simple enough to get it back into decent enough shape to pass './autobuild.sh' again. That has been a good project file for me, finding a number of build improvements; once it is running cleanly, we need to automate running it on a regular basis (I still have unapproved mingw and VPATH patches posted on the list that need to be merged in before autobuild.sh can reliably be automated). Presently the vol-key command only supports being provided with a volume path. This patch adds support for providing it with a pool and volume identifier pair as well. virsh # vol-key --pool <pool-name-or-uuid> <vol-name-or-path> --- This is a clean patch against current git head, plus avoids a potential memory leak in the previous code. Also unlike the previous patch, this one doesn't change the help text for the vol-path nor vol-name commands. I, like many others, am getting the error message "rtc: lost some interrupts at 1024hz" repeating over and over on the console. Some people have apparently gotten rid of this error message by disabling hpet in the BIOS. However, this is a VM (kvm). I tried adding nohpet as a kernel parameter in /boot/grub/menu.lst, but that effects the linux OS, not the BIOS. It did not fix it. I found references to a -no-hpet qemu parameter. However, I cannot find how to set it in a VM created using virt-manager and an ISO image. In the /etc/libvirt of the host I found XML configuration files describing the VMs. These appear to be the same as those created using the virsh dumpxml command. There does not appear to be an XML element as there is for acpi and apic. The man page describing the XML format does not have an HPET related option. I could not find an example or sample of it being disabled in a libvirt XML file. Nor does there appear to be a schema (xsd or dtd) for the libvirt file format, which might have had an hpet element or attribute. Ideally, is there a way to disable HPET in the BIOS for a specific VM, and not all VMs. Thank you. Hi List, Please find below a patch that should correct two memory leaks within the udev device handling code. The issue is triggered by 'add' udev calls and will slowly cause libvirtd to consume the majority of system memory. The first part of the patch deals with udevAddOneDevice() and frees the memory allocated to 'def' if the function would return -1 (an error condition) due to the inability to look up udev properties (for example, if the udev device is already removed). The second part of the patch deals with a remaining 8kB/cycle memory leak, in which the udev device reference isn't released at the end of running udevEventHandleCallback(). Hi all, This patch adds a "vol-pool" command to virsh, to round out the conversion functions for vols in virsh. At the moment, if we start with a volume name and a pool id, we're all good. We can convert from that pair to either a volume key or volume path. But, if we're given just a volume key or path we have no good way to look up the storage pool for it.
