[libvirt] [PATCH v2] Add V6LOCAL nwfilter parameter.

Currently, adding any sort of IPv6 nwfilter rules is rather difficult. There are no standard rules, and you end up doing a lot of things by hand. This patch makes the $V6LOCAL variable available within nwfilter nules. This is the generated from the interface's mac address using the modified EUI-64 format, which matches what the guest should be using. This is part of what information is needed to correctly filter guest IPv6 traffic. Since this changes with the MAC address, it is significantly easier if libvirt populates it (rather then requiring the user to enter it). [libvirt] [PATCH] Define CPUINFO_FILE_LEN and fix maxlen of cpuinfo file for powerpc

This patch define CPUINFO_FILE_LEN as 2KB which is enough for most architectures. For the 24 cores PowerPC machines, the file of /proc/cpuinfo will be larger than 2KB. It will fail to start libvirtd with the error message as below: virFileReadAll: Failed to read file '/proc/cpuinfo': Value too large for defined data type virSysinfoRead: internal error Failed to open /proc/cpuinfo So this patch increases the maxlen of cpuinfo for PowerPC architecture. [libvirt] libxl: Issues with virt-manager when used to manager Xen domains

This started off with some regression testing after going forward to Xen-4.4. We currently would pair that with a libvirt version 1.2.2 and right now operations through virsh seem to be working (mostly) well. But when using virt-manager (not the most up-to-date versions but some combinations that quite likely will occur (0.9.1 and 0.9.5)) there are some issues. Two symptoms seem to be caused by the same underlying problem which is caused by the way virt-manager interacts with libvirt. That seems to be that virt-manager acquires a reference to virDomainPtr only once and then uses that for subsequent call. This is a problem because both virDomainPtr object and virDomainObjPtr objects contains a domid but only the latter gets updated. So both, creating a new guest (which must be a define step and then use the handle to start the guest) as well as rebooting a guest cause problems for virt-manager. Mainly because of libxlDomainGetInfo() which retrieves the virDomainObjPtr for a given virDommainPtr. Also because that warning above happens a lot more (repeatedly) than I would have expected. This may or may not be related to the next question. Not a problem but more a confusion on my side: virGetDomain() has commentary that says it will return either a pointer to an existing object or one to a new one. Its just, I cannot see that done in the code. Is that a future plan or was that way but was removed? I must admit I have not looked deeper into that but one explanation of the repeated domid mismatch would be if the virDomainPtr that virt-manager uses to communicate with libvirt would be cloned before doing things inside libvirt. And holding that handle for so long and not obtaining a fresh one through the various lookup interfaces each time could be a mistake of virt-manager. Commit 5b3492fa aimed to fix this and caught one error but exposed another one. When agent command is being executed and the thread waiting for the reply is woken up by an event (e.g. EOF in case of shutdown), the command finishes with no data (rxObject == NULL), but no error is reported, since this might be desired by the caller (e.g. suspend through agent). However, in other situations, when the data are required (e.g. getting vCPUs), we proceed to getting desired data out of the reply, but none of the virJSON*() functions works well with NULLs. I chose the way of a new parameter for qemuAgentCommand() function that specifies whether reply is required and behaves according to that. Currently VolOpen notifies the user of a potentially non-fatal failure by returning -2 and logging a VIR_WARN or VIR_INFO. Unfortunately most callers treat -2 as fatal but don't actually report any message with the error APIs. Rename the VOL_OPEN_ERROR flag to VOL_OPEN_NOERROR. If NOERROR is specified, we preserve the current behavior of returning -2 (there's only one caller that wants this). However in the default case, only return -1, and actually use the error APIs. [libvirt] Clock problems on live migration

Hi everyone, When doing a live migration, Linux guests will frequently get stuck and become unresponsive, while the CPU utilization on the host for that guest goes to 100%. If you wait long enough, the guest seems to always recover, with a dmesg entry such as: Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = 35882846234 ns) So the TSC did a jump of nearly 36 seconds. I've actually had a (test-vm) stay stuck for over 11 minutes before becoming responsive again (delta = 662463064082 ns). Migrations often fail when going from server A to B, but will then work fine in the other direction. Both servers and guests are locked to the same NTP servers, and are well within 1ms from one another. Both hosts are running Ubuntu 13.04 with these versions (from Ubuntu packages): Kernel: 3.8.0-35-generic x86_64 Libvirt: 1.0.2 Qemu: 1.4.0 Gluster-fs: 3.4.2 (libvirt access the images via the filesystem, not using libgfapi yet). The interconnect between both machines (both for migration and gluster) is 10GbE. We have different guests (all Ubuntu releases, 13.04 and 13.10), and they all seem to be affected. Clocksource: kvm-clock on all guests. Clock entry from the guest XML: <clock offset='utc'/> Now as far as I've udnerstood the documentation of kvm-clock, it specifically supports live migrations, so I'm a bit surprised by these problems. There isn't all that much information to find on this issue, although I have found postings by others that seem to have run into the same issues, but without a solution. If we'd come up with a struct to interpret the time, it's written in stone and there's nothing we can do about it. Even if we break up the struct into function arguments. However, we can use typed parameters and have the API extensible. For example, I'm implementing seconds granularity only for now. If later somebody feels like he/she wants to use even finer granularity, we can do that by inventing a new typed param. On all the places where qemuAgentComand() was called, we did a check for errors in the reply. Unfortunately, some of the places called qemuAgentCheckError() without checking for non-null reply which might have resulted in a crash. So this patch makes the error-checking part of qemuAgentCommand() itself, which: a) makes it look better, b) makes the check mandatory and, most importantly, c) checks for the errors if and only if it is appropriate. This actually fixes a potential crashers when qemuAgentComand() returned 0, but reply was NULL.
