Try to reconnect to the running domains after libvirtd restart. To achieve that, do: * Save domain state - Modify virBhyveProcessStart() to save domain state to the state dir - Modify virBhyveProcessStop() to cleanup the pidfile and the state * Detect if the state information loaded from the driver's state dir matches the actual state. Consider domain active if: - PID it points to exist - Process title of this PID matches the expected one with the domain name Otherwise, mark the domain as shut off. Note: earlier development bhyve versions before FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE didn't set proctitle we expect, so the current code will not detect it. Libvirt didn't catch an attempt to do a snapshot of a SCSI passthrough disk when backed by iSCSI and the docs didn't state that disk type 'lun' works also with iSCSI. [libvirt] [PATCH v2] examples: Introduce domtop

There's this question on the list that is asked over and over again. How do I get {cpu, memory, ...} usage in percentage? Or its modified version: How do I plot nice graphs like virt-manager does? It would be nice if we have an example to inspire people. And that's what domtop should do. Yes, it could be written in different ways, but I've chosen this one as I think it show explicitly what users need to implement in order to imitate virt-manager's graphing. Note: The usage is displayed from host perspective. That is, how much host CPUs the domain is using. But it should be fairly simple to switch do just guest CPU usage if needed. Dear list, there's been a lot of development in QEMU on this part. And I think it's settled down enough long so I can start looking at it. So I'd like to hear you opinion what's the best way to expose this in libvirt. OVMF can bee looked at as a UEFI enablement in guest. Standard UEFI consists of two parts: a) the firmware binary image (RO) b) UEFI variables flash (RW) IIUC both of these are to be passed to qemu on the command line as: -drive file=img_1,if=pflash,format=raw,readonly \ -drive file=img_2,if=pflash,format=raw Subsequently, -bios parameter should be dropped. The idea of splitting the UEFI into two files allows distros to update the UEFI firmware (FW for short) without modifying guest written UEFI variables file (the variables should have unified name so they should be transferable between two versions of UEFI FW). So my question is: how to expose this in the domain XML? We have the <os/> element which handles the booting arguments. It can have <loader/> (which would be great for the FW, wouldn't it?). But then we need to invent a different element (say <vars/>) which would contain path the the UEFI vars file. Moreover, the element would exclude other elements like <boot/>, <bios/> or <smbios/>. So my proposal is: <os> <type>hvm</type> <loader>/path/to/uefi.fw</loader> <vars>/path/to/uefi.nvvarstore</vars> </os> Does this make any sense or am I just blabbing? We were only passing libvirt-gobject-domain.h and libvirt-gobject-connection.h through glib-mkenums, which causes it to only generate GEnum information for enums found in these headers. Up to now, users have to pass two arguments at least: domain virt type ('qemu' vs 'kvm') and one of emulatorbin or architecture. This is not much user friendly. Nowadays users mostly use KVM and share the host architecture with the guest. So now, the API (and subsequently virsh command) can be called with all NULLs (without any arguments). Sorry, this fell complete off my todos for a while. So I split off the fixup of VRAM into a separate patch which may or may not be used and only accept vga, xen and cirrus as supported types in the main patch. I believe I saw some discussions about how to fix some of the VRAM values as they are passed into qemu. At least for the Cirrus type I saw that the command line looked ok but the guest was getting a much larger VRAM size than it was told. -Stefan

The first patch just changes 'building' into a bool as that's how I found it used when going to add a new bool for patch 2 Patch 2 addresses the following bz: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1091866 Essentially, wiping the lv caused it to disappear after a vol-refresh. This was because the lv that was created was a sparse (or thin or snapshot via --virtualsize of -V) logical volume. The multiple names are the ways I found the feature described. When the sparse volume was written to by the wipe algorithms it actually filled the volume beyond it's capacity rendering it INACTIVE which causes pool-refresh to ignore it. As it turns out a sparse lv created of size (for example) 4 MiB has metadata contained within the size created. While we could adjust the size of the metadata, control over it's location becomes the issue. It seems there is also some guard data at each end of the sparse lv as when the wipe was done lost I/O messages were sent to the system log. After much searching it just seems that writing a sparse lv with some sort of wipe algorithm will not work. Although if anyone has suggestions I'm willing to try. I have found writing '0x00''s, the scrub utility, and a "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/lv_pool/lv_test bs=4096 count=1024" doesn't work. There's this question on the list that is asked over and over again. How do I get {cpu, memory, ...} usage in percentage? Or its modified version: How do I plot nice graphs like virt-manager does? It would be nice if we have an example to inspire people. And that's what domtop should do. Yes, it could be written in different ways, but I've chosen this one as I think it show explicitly what users need to implement in order to imitate virt-manager's graphing. We have some inconsistencies in the node capabilities (which shows guest capabilities for some default binaries) and domcapabilities (which shows guest capabilities for a specified binary). It might be nicer for client applications if the two XML components share a common schema and output layout, so that the same client code can be used to parse either (sub-tree of) XML, modulo the name of the top-most element containing the tree. Furthermore, I'm trying to figure out how to advertise whether a given domain will support active commit (and similarly, Peter's patches for relative backing name preservation). Advertising the feature just through 'virsh capabilities' is insufficient, because that only covers the default binary; so it seems like the sort of thing that should also be in 'virsh domcapabilities'. Since virConnectGetDomainCapabilities is brand new to 1.2.7, we still have time to change its XML. But I want consensus on whether we need things to match, or whether we intentionally want people to rely only on the newer XML format of the new API call (that is, don't bloat 'virsh capabilities'/virConnectGetCapabilities any further, and learning whether active commit is supported will have to be done via 'virsh domcapabilities'/virConnectGetDomainCapabilities). That is, I'm wondering if <domainCapabilities> should use <capabilities>/<guest> as its starting point, rather than completely inventing new XML.
