We had quite a few test files which weren't validated yet. Additionally this will allow us to add schemas for internal testing only for stuff such as the qemu status XML. [PATCH v2] tests: commandhelper: Accept POLLNVAL on macOS

commandhelper hangs indefinitely in poll() on macOS on commandtest test2 and later because POLLNVAL is returned on revents for input file descriptor opened from /dev/null, i.e this hangs: $ tests/commandhelper < /dev/null BEGIN STDOUT BEGIN STDERR ^C But it works fine with regular stdin: $ tests/commandhelper <<< test BEGIN STDOUT BEGIN STDERR test test END STDOUT END STDERR The issue is mentioned in poll(2): BUGS The poll() system call currently does not support devices. With the change all 28 cases in commandtest pass. [PATCH] qemu: Don't generate '-machine memory-backend' and '-numa memdev'

In 88957116c9 I've switched to -machine memory-backend=ID and -object memory-backend-* because QEMU is obsoleting -mem-path and -mem-prealloc. However, what I did not foresee was that using -machine memory-backend in combination with -numa is not allowed in QEMU. This was reported upstream and fortunately not released yet. The solution is to generate -machine memory-backend=ID iff there are no guest NUMA nodes, and require use of -numa memdev= for new enough QEMUs. [PATCH] virschematest: Validate schema in tests/cputestdata

We now have a schema file for the 'cpu' elements. Use it to validate files in 'tests/cputestdata' Unfortunately the files in the directory are too disorganised and not easy to split up to do something more straightforward. The -baseline- input files are tested by the test internally and the rest of the files are internal data feeding the tests so they don't need validation. [libvirt PATCH] cpu_map: Remove monitor feature from EPYC-Rome

The feature is filtered by KVM and never automatically enabled. So even though QEMU definition of EPYC-Rome contains this feature, the guest won't see it. Also domain capabilities will show it as disabled for KVM domains. Thus the feature should not really be included in our definition of EPYC-Rome. [PATCH v2] qemu: Don't generate '-machine memory-backend' and '-numa memdev'

In 88957116c9 I've switched to -machine memory-backend=ID and -object memory-backend-* because QEMU is obsoleting -mem-path and -mem-prealloc. However, what I did not foresee was that using -machine memory-backend in combination with -numa is not allowed in QEMU. This was reported upstream and fortunately not released yet. The problem is that if domain has NUMA nodes then we will generate memory-backend-* objects for NUMA nodes (because if QEMU is new enough to expose default RAM ID it also supports -numa memdev=) and adding non-NUMA memory backend is wrong. QEMU since 5.0 has two new video devices rage128p and rv100. These emulate ATI Rage128 Pro and Radeon GPUs respectively, at least to some extent. This can be useful for OS without virtualisation drivers or support for VBE or the old Cirrus emulation. The CPU should be identified as EPYC-Rome, but the QEMU binary used to gather the original test data did not support this model. Let's update the supported models to QEMU 5.1.0. [PATCH] qemu: Add support for -device ati-vga (models: rage128p and rv100)

When using a passthrough GPU with libvirt there is no option to pass "x-vga=on" to the device specification. This means legacy VGA support isn't available which prevents any non-UEFI cards from POSTing and prevents some drivers from initialising for example Windows 10 NVIDIA driver for GeForce 8800. We currently ignore unknown elements in the CPU XML description, e.g. with virsh cpu-compare and hypervisor-cpu-compare. This makes '<cpu><faeture name="..."/></cpu>' (note the typo in "faeture") semantically identic to '<cpu/>'. No error is reported. [libvirt PATCHv3 0/4] Add support for QEMU's fmode and dmode

Apologies for the second submission here. I got a kickback on two of the emails saying it was "rejected due to security policies." This third version of the patches fixes a bug where QEMU interpreted the command line value passed to it as base-10 rather than base-8. This new version ensures there is always a preceeding 0 in the QEMU args (using %04o formatting) and explictly sets it in the generated XML. [RFC] bhyve: modeling virtio-9p

Hi, Recently bhyve got virtio-9p support. Modeling it appears to be pretty straight-forward, but probably I'm missing something, so decided to discuss first before proceeding with the implementation. On the host side it looks like this: bhyve .... -s 25:0,virtio-9p,distfiles=/workspace/distfiles Mounting it in a (Linux) guest looks this way: mount -t 9p distfiles /mnt/distfiles lspci(8) shows it like this: 00:1f.0 SCSI storage controller: Red Hat, Inc. Virtio filesystem Subsystem: Red Hat, Inc. Virtio filesystem Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 64, IRQ 20 I/O ports at 2200 [size=512] Memory at c2004000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K] Expansion ROM at c0007000 [virtual] [disabled] [size=2K] Capabilities: [40] MSI-X: Enable+ Count=2 Masked- Capabilities: [4c] MSI: Enable- Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+ Kernel driver in use: virtio-pci I was thinking about presenting it like this: <filesystem type='mount'> <driver type='virtiofs'/> <source dir='/workspace/distfiles'> <target dir='distfiles'/> </filesystem> There's also an optional <readonly/> element for readonly mounts, which is also supported by bhyve.
