[libvirt] libvir: error could not connect to qemu://localhost/system

I downloaded libvirt on December 14 and did the installation procedure (autogen, make, make install). I installed it on host which worked fine with a previous version. However, now the libvirtd is not accepting remote connections. What has changed in this version? Am I doing something wrong? This is to announce the release of v0.20 of sVirt, a project to add security labeling support to Linux-based virtualization. [libvirt] version script and non-existent symbols

The current version script refers to symbols that don't exist in the code. What is the purpose of this? The Solaris linker (quite correctly, I think) generates hanging references to such symbols. If it's just for documentation, such symbols should be commented out in the script. But there is another more basic problem. If I configure out various components, such as storage, which is necessary in order to compile, then /those/ symbols don't exist, and the build fails as above. I think the solution to the latter is to provide stubs that return failure codes for every symbol that can be ./configured out. So we'd introduce a stubs.c file that has these for everything, and compile each of the stubs if the relevant WITH_ option isn't set. Finally, C-style comments aren't supported with the Solaris linker. Since both linkers support # as a comment delimiter, any objections to changing it to do that? regards john

I just want to forward this comment on from #virt so that we don't lose it. It appears to be an incompatibility between libvirt 0.5.0 and recent KVM. <knowinters> Hi, I'm using libvirt 0.5.0 with kvm-79, when I do virsh save kvm replies with "unknown migration protocol: stdio". A state file is created, but it's only 4K and when restored the vm boots from scratch instead of starting where it was when i saved. I googled but couldn't find a resolution. [libvirt] PATCH: Fix deadlock upon config file reload

Turned out there was a small locking bug when reloading domain config files after SIGHUP. I committed the following patch to add in the missing unlock call. This was one of the files I'm unable to do static analysis on, hence why it was missed. Now, instead of always passing the optname, "domain", to vshCommandOptDomainBy, that function requires that its command argument refer to an opts array containing a "domain" option. First off, thanks for working on this! A few general comments, and then I'll put rest inline.. For stdout/err, it need to be setup so that the logfile is dup()'d onto the QEMU process' file descriptors directly, and get libvirt outof the business of I/O forwarding. This avoids any complications with re-attaching to stdout/err, and loosing any log data while libvirt isn't running. This also needs to be implemented with the assumption that the daemon can & will crash any time. So putting the state-saving hooks into the qemudShutdown() method won't be sufficient. We need to write out the state we need when initially starting the VM, and then update it any time we hot-plug/unplug devices. I was getting the error: map size mismatch; abort when running the daemon-conf tests. I traced it to two places in which we were passing a parameter as a number of bits to numa_node_to_cpus which expects a number of bytes (see numa_node_to_cpus_compat in numa.h in the numactl source). FYI, today, I committed this change libvirtd: plug a nominal leak * qemud/qemud.c (qemudRunLoop): Free server->workers. http://git.et.redhat.com/?p=libvirt.git;a=commitdiff;h=87a6fa131464 Notice that it does have a proper ChangeLog entry, but the git commit log contains only "*** empty log message ***". Normally it would contain a copy of the ChangeLog lines. However, in CVS, it is fixed because I manually edited the cvs commit log. I expect that some day we'll regenerate the git repository from cvs, so the empty summary in git will eventually go away
