Someone mentioned to me that they interpreted this section of the KVM driver page as suggesting that new guests should be created by creating a qemu commandline and converting it to XML with domxml-from-native. On CentOS5: If "virsh edit $DOM" is used and an error happens (for example changing any live cycle action to a non-existing value), libvirt forgets that $DOM exists, since it is already removed from the internal hash tables, which are used for domain lookup. In once case (unreproducible) even the persistent configuration /etc/xen/$DOM was deleted. Instead of using the compound function xenXMConfigSaveFile() explicitly use xenFomatXM() and virConfWriteFile() to distinguish between a failure in converting the libvirt definition to the xen-xm format and a problem when writing the file. From: "M. Mohan Kumar" <mohan(a)in.ibm.com> A new FS driver type 'proxy' is added to QEMU 9p server. This patch adds support for using proxy FS driver from libvirt. QEMU proxy FS driver uses socket for communicating between helper and qemu proxy FS driver. Proxy helper (a stand alone binary part of qemu) is invoked with one of the descriptors created using socketpair call and the share path. Similarly QEMU is invoked with another descriptor created using the same socketpair system call and with other required FS driver parameters. Need for proxy FS driver ======================== Pass through security model in QEMU 9p server has following issues: 1) TOCTTOU vulnerability: Following symbolic links in the server could provide access to files beyond 9p export path. 2) Running QEMU with root privilege could be a security issue (pass through security model needs root privilege). Proxy FS driver is implemented to solve these issues. Proxy FS uses chroot + socket combination for securing the vulnerability known with following symbolic links. Intention of adding a new filesystem type is to allow qemu to run in non-root mode, but doing privileged operations in a chroot environment using socket IO. Proxy helper is invoked with root privileges and chroots into 9p export path. QEMU proxy fs driver sends filesystem request to proxy helper and receives the response from it. Commit fad5cd210899dfde4afe36712754dc921c3f3051 introduces a new flag that allows to show domain's title with domains. Calling qemuDomainMigrateGraphicsRelocate notifies spice clients to connect to destination qemu so that they can seamlessly switch streams once migration is done. Unfortunately, current qemu is not able to accept any connections while incoming migration connection is open. Unlike .cvsignore under CVS, git allows for ignoring nested names. We weren't very consistent where new tests were being ignored (some in .gitignore, some in tests/.gitignore), and I found it easier to just consolidate everything. * .gitignore: Subsume entries from [libvirt] [PATCHv2 0/2] qemu: new GRACEFUL flag for virDomainDestroy

This is the 2nd attempt at solving the problem of virDomainDestroy uncermoniously sending SIGKILL to the qemu process before it's had a chance to flush its disk buffers. In v1, I altered the default behavior of virDomainDestroy(), but that was rejected as changing established API behavior. In v2, the default behavior is maintained, and a new flag VIR_DOMAIN_DESTROY_GRACEFUL is added fo the virDomainDestroyFlags API. If that flag is included in the call, virDomainDestroyFlags will only send SIGTERM to the qemu process, and if that is unsuccessful, it will return an error rather than sending SIGKILL. I've also included a 2nd patch which lengthens the timeout prior to sending SIGKILL. Although there has been some sentiment against doing this, my opinion is that it's the prudent thing to do because: 1) The original timeout of 1.6 seconds was arbitrarily selected, and obviously isn't always adequate. 2) In the cases where the current timeout *is* adequate, there will be exactly 0 change in behavior anyway. The only time behavior will change (and that will just be in the form of a longer delay before the API call returns) will be in those cases where we would otherwise have caused guest disk corruption. I know which of those two options I would choose if it was my guest. 3) Just adding a new flag to the libvirt API does not do anything to help those who are stuck (if only temporarily) with an existing version of an application that doesn't support the new API flag. Since libvirt is the cause of the problem, we should try to mitigate the problem as much as possible without requiring updates of other packages.
