pci device vga added not showing
by Barry Cisna
Hello All,
Trying to get virgl working from linux host to windows guest
in virt-manager i have added the host graphics card Matrox G200ew to the
hardware settings as a pci device for Windows 10 guest.
When i go to spice server settings, and select Opengl checked there are no
available pci devices listed in the drop down box select.
Am trying to get some 3d working on Windows guest and seems from reading
this is almost impossible short of doing gpu passthrough with a second GPU
in the host.
Am probably missing something.
Thank You.

Cannot turn iommu on inside guest
by Mauricio Tavares
So I want to turn iommu support on in a guest ( <type arch='x86_64'
machine='pc-q35-4.1'>hvm</type>). Per [1] I tried to add to devices
either
<devices>
<iommu model='intel'>
<driver intremap='on'/>
</iommu>
</devices>
or just a simpler
<devices>
<iommu model='intel /'>
</devices>
However, when I try to boot it, it crashes with the following error
message (stolen from /var/log/libvirt/qemu/testkvm.log):
2020-02-11T05:13:27.278707Z qemu-system-x86_64: We need to set
caching-mode=on for intel-iommu to enable device assignment with IOMMU
protection.
2020-02-11 05:13:27.577+0000: shutting down, reason=crashed
that sounds like it wants me to do something like
qemu-system-x86_64 [...] -device intel-iommu,intremap=on,caching-mode=on[2]
using virsh. But
<devices>
<iommu model='intel'>
<driver intremap='on' caching-mode='on '/>
</iommu>
</devices>
is not only not mentioned in [1] but also fails
[root@testbox tests]# virsh edit testkvm
error: XML document failed to validate against schema: Unable to

Can anyone show me what I am missing here?

clustered lvm volume activation
by Timm Wunderlich
dear all,
i have a problem with clustered lvm storage and the "logical" storage
driver, perhaps someone has a suggestion.
i have a clustered lvm (lvmlockd, not clvm) with 4 hosts running.
when i start the storage on a host it activates all volumes in the whole
volume group. then i cannot start the storage on other hosts because all
volumes are already activated on one host.
if i then deactivate all volumes in the started pool i can start the
pool on other hosts. but then i have to manually activate the volume if
i want to start the domain.
it would be great if the logical pool driver would only activate the
volume of a domain at domain start and not on pool start.
does anybody have a workaround for this or any suggestions for me? do
you think i should open an issue on it?
Regards,
Timm

Open Source Hackathon Mentorship Invitation
by Misha Patel
Hello,
My name is Misha Patel and I’m reaching out on behalf of the HackIllinois
Outreach team. HackIllinois is a 36-hour collegiate Open Source hackathon
that takes place annually at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
This year, it will be from February 28th-March 1st, 2020. Our mission is to
introduce college students to Open Source, while giving back to the
community. We strive to create a collaborative environment in which our
attendees can learn from and work with developers to make their own
contributions. In past years, we’ve had developers from prominent projects
such as npm, Rust, and Apache come to mentor students from our pool of 900+
attendees.
We’d love it if you could pass along this message to the Libvirt community
or any individuals you believe would be interested. We will provide meals
throughout the event and can reimburse for travel and lodging up to a
certain amount depending on where in the US people are coming from. More
information on mentorship can be found at hackillinois.org/mentor. You can
also visit opensource.hackillinois.org to see what kinds of projects were
represented at our event last year.
We'd be more than happy to discuss this further. Please have any interested
individuals contact us at opensource(a)hackillinois.org. Looking forward to
hearing back!
Best,
Misha Patel

can hotplug vcpus to running Windows 10 guest, but not unplug
by Lentes, Bernd
Hi,
i'm playing a bit around with vcpus.
My guest is Windows 10 1903.
This is the excerpt from the config:
...
<vcpu placement='static' current='2'>4</vcpu>
<vcpus>
<vcpu id='0' enabled='yes' hotpluggable='no'/>
<vcpu id='1' enabled='yes' hotpluggable='yes'/>
<vcpu id='2' enabled='no' hotpluggable='yes'/>
<vcpu id='3' enabled='no' hotpluggable='yes'/>
</vcpus>
...
I'm able to hotplug vcpus, but when i want to unplug them i get the following:
virsh # setvcpus pathway 3 --live
virsh # setvcpus pathway 4 --live
virsh # setvcpus pathway 2 --live
error: internal error: unable to execute QEMU command 'device_del': acpi: device unplug request for not supported device type: qemu64-x86_64-cpu
Does anyone know why it can't be unplugged ?
Thanks.

Possible to use OVN networking and virtio simultaneously in the same VM?
by Andre Goree
I wanted to know if it's possible to use OVN networking and virtio simultaneously in the same VM? Or am I wasting my time trying to get it to work?
When I try to define a VM and power it on with both types defined, networking fails to work on both. E.g.:
<interface type='bridge'>
<mac address='xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx'/>
<source bridge='foo'/>
<virtualport type='openvswitch'>
</virtualport>
<target dev='devfoo'/>
</interface>
<interface type='bridge'>
<mac address='xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx'/>
<source bridge='bar'/>
<virtualport type='openvswitch'>
</virtualport>
<target dev='devbar'/>
</interface>
<interface type='bridge'>
<mac address='xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx/>
<source bridge='foo2'/>
<model type='virtio'/>
<target dev='devfoo2/>
</interface>
Notice the 'virtio' setting on the third NIC. If I remove that NIC from the xml or if set that NIC as a virtualport on openvswitch like the other two NICs, networking works fine.
Am I missing something? Or is this a silly question to even ask?

problems with understanding of the memory parameters in the xml file
by Lentes, Bernd
Hi guys,
despite reading hours and hours in the internet i'm still struggling with
"memory", "currentmemory" and "maxMemory".
Maybe you can help me to sort it out.
My idea is that a guest has an initial value of memory (which "memory" seems to be) when booting.
We have some Windows 10 guests which calculate some stuff and i would like to increase memory during runtime
until it reaches a fixed maximum value.
My hope was that a higher "maxMemory" could solve this, that the guest claims more memory and gets it.
I didn't get it. Is my idea wrong ? Do i need a balloon driver for that ?
What i find concerning ballooning is that it doesn't work automatically but has to be adjusted
manually. Is that right ?
Balloon drivers for windows are available.
Is my idea right, does that work basically ? If yes how do i have to set the parameters ?
Is the memory released after the guest has e.g. finished his calculation ?
Does that work automatically or do i have to adjust that manually ?
Thanks.
Bernd
