I am pleased to announce that a new release of the libvirt-glib package, version 0.1.4, is now available from ftp://libvirt.org/libvirt/glib/ The packages are GPG signed with Key fingerprint: DAF3 A6FD B26B 6291 2D0E 8E3F BE86 EBB4 1510 4FDF (4096R) New in this release: - Add support for configuring power management config - Add API binding for updating device config - Avoid SEGV when querying storage volune with NULL name - Avoid reference count leak when constructing wrapped libvirt objects - Avoid calling g_type_init for newer glib - Add flags for domain reboot API - Fix leak with GMutex compatibility wrappers - Don't use storage volumes before the pool refresh finishes - Add binding for destroying storage pools - Add binding for defining storage pools libvirt-glib comprises three distinct libraries: - libvirt-glib - Integrate with the GLib event loop and error handling - libvirt-gconfig - Representation of libvirt XML documents as GObjects - libvirt-gobject - Mapping of libvirt APIs into the GObject type system NB: While libvirt aims to be API/ABI stable forever, with libvirt-glib we are not yet guaranteeing that libvirt-glib libraries are API/ABI permanently stable. As of the 0.0.8 release, we have tentatively frozen the API/ABI with the intent of being longterm stable hereafter, but there is still a small chance we might find flaws requiring an API/ABI change. The likelihood of this is low, however, and we will strive to avoid it. Follow up comments about libvirt-glib should be directed to the regular libvir-list(a)redhat.com development list. Well we just crossed that important milestone in the life of any project, so congratulation everybody the 1.0.0 release is out !!! For a bit of history, this is actually the 7th birthday of the project accounted from the first commit, on Nov 2 2005, public from day one ! CVS converted commit labelled "Initial revision" 2005-11-02 20:50:21 At the time I had one hypervisor (Xen) to play with, and except the general idea and some of the earlier entry point there is nothing left from that first commit, and that is just fine :-) ! Anyway back to useful informations, the release is as usual at: ftp://libvirt.org/libvirt/ as a tarball and signed rpms. For just over a month of development we are at nearly 350 commits so the pace is apparently not slowing down! There is a number of important improvements, but for a change I would like to point out the silent work of our translators communities, work being done in the framework of Transifex: https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/libvirt/ we have around 10 languages with near complete translation, historically we had 2 complete localization : japanese and ukrainian at 100% and updating within hours of a new pot source file being pushed, in the last month 5 new indian languages have completed, and various others have made significant improvements. I have tagged the git tree and pushed libvirt-1.0.0-rc1.tar.gz release candidate 1 to the ftp (along with rpms): ftp://libvirt.org/libvirt/ Due to the slightly higher visibility of this release, we are giving a bit more time for testing of the candidates, and the plan is to push the final version at the end of next week, so expect an rc2 at the end of the week and probably an rc3 by mid next week. The libvirt-designer package provides a library that integrates libosinfo and libvirt-gconfig. Given an operating system identifier and libvirt host capabilities, it queries the libosinfo database to determine optimal hardware configuration and uses this information to design suitable domain XML for running the OS as a guest. In a similar manner it facilitates the setup of guest hardware devices such as disks, network interfaces, video cards, etc. These APIs are inspired by experience creating internal APIs for similar tasks in the virt-install/virt-manager projects. Since it builds on libosinfo and libvirt-gconfig, the libvirt-designer library relies on GObject introspection to provide access to its APIs for non-C programming languages. In addition it explicitly avoids a direct depedancy on libvirt.so, to enable usage by applications using alternative SNMP, CIM, etc bindings to libvirt, or those applications which simply need to construct libvirt XML without actually booting the guests afterwards. These early releases of libvirt-designer should be considered experimental. While we don't actively plan to change/break the API/ABI, we are not going to guarantee API/ABI stability of libvirt-designer at this time.
