[libvirt-users] storage pool vs storage volume

Can anybody give a good reference to understand the difference between storage pool and storage volume
From what I have seem storage volume describes the physical storage media and the pool a collection of such But from the XML at libvirt I do not exactly understand that .

Take the "directory" pool as example, you can simple imagine the pool is the directory, and the volume is the files under that directory. Regards Osier

some more on pools ( storage and volume): 1. Are they used for data storage only or also for images 2. How are they used by a VM , via the <device> element ? Does libvirt knows how to use it or some additional staff (aside from defining ) is needed : 3. Does one has to specify both storage pool and a volume or just the volume is enough (in the VM XML) ? thanks Zvi Dubitzky Email:dubi@il.ibm.com Osier Yang <jyang@redhat.com> wrote on 21/03/2011 10:16:50:
