[libvirt] Mounting a bare-metal folder as a drive

Hello List, Still working on getting the DVD drive to go, but I got another question. I'm attempting to ad a folder located on the bare-metal machine to the VM and have it appear as a drive (such as HDD), is this possible? I've looked over the documentation and it suggests this is only possible for USB devices or virtual disks, but not a folder. How would I go about adding a folder located on the bare-metal to the VM to appear as a hard drive but still be accessable to the bare metal machine? ----------------------------------------------------------------- Adam Mooz Adam.Mooz@gmail.com AdamMooz@me.com http://www.AdamMooz.com

The RHEL Virtualization Guide says you can do it by creating a sparse file: http://www.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5.4/html/Virtualiz ation_Guide/sect-Virtualization-Virtualized_block_devices-Adding_storage_dev ices_to_guests.html Neil -- Neil Aggarwal, (281)846-8957, http://UnmeteredVPS.net <http://unmeteredvps.net/> CentOS 5.4 VPS with unmetered bandwidth only $25/month! 7 day no risk trial, Google Checkout accepted

I'm not looking to attach a new disk or a block deivice, this is a folder that is being mounted and used by the bare metal system that I'd like to pass into the VM. I'm thinking Samba may be the way to go, although there is a fair amount of overhead doing that. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Adam Mooz Adam.Mooz@gmail.com AdamMooz@me.com http://www.AdamMooz.com On 2009-11-11, at 3:26 PM, Neil Aggarwal wrote:

So, you want to share a folder between the host and the guest and have both be able to use it? I think you are right, Samba if the guest is Windows and NFS if the guest is Linux.
