Well I just tried but the packages don't rebuild on x86_64, it seems they are not 64bits ready. But yes using the x-compile to check for portability regressions sounds fine.
Are you sure? I built them fine over here (AMD x86-64).

I'm about half way through building libvirt using them. Just working my way through a maze of GnuTLS dependencies/problems.
