I'm not understanding what you're seeing. I don't see an extra > anywhere.
Probably a case of one mailer turning 'From' into '>From' to avoid it
tripping up other mailers, vs. your mailer recognizing and undoing that
conversion. Certainly not a problem in the original commit message, but
only in how it is presented in mail readers.
